OTM's DIY Bubble Cloning & Sprouting 40 Year Old Seeds & Current RDWC Harvest

re: OTM's DIY Bubble Cloning & Sprouting 40 Year Old Seeds & Current RDWC Harvest

If I get lucky enough to pop some, hopefully a male & female, I would put them in coco coir, pull the veg tent out of the room, set it up in another area of the basement...lock them in and let them make seeds...once I had a harvest of seeds and of course smoke like we most likely had back then, I could play with RDWC...but as tall as these got outdoors, not to sure how a inside grow would work.

Interesting problem!:thumb:
Yes that's exactly what you should do. But don't give up if you don't see any cracking after a week or two. Put them in nice soil and keep watering. Also number helps, so soak all of your stuff.

re: OTM's DIY Bubble Cloning & Sprouting 40 Year Old Seeds & Current RDWC Harvest

I tried searching the image as well and all i could find was this journal lol!

Don't worry toast, someone will come along and pick it up...then you will pop your forehead and say "Dam that was easy"

Thanks for the kudo's, your grow is doing well and it seems you have your tent temps dialed in...when you get that Dwarf, hopefully it runs cool...I am following to see how you fair with it!:thumb:

re: OTM's DIY Bubble Cloning & Sprouting 40 Year Old Seeds & Current RDWC Harvest

Yea im a little nervous about the temps too but that mars really does run hot.. so i cant imagine a well made light running hotter then that old mars 300w unit. Thanks otm i figured out the problem before i cut a hole in my ceiling and played around in the asbestos lol.

My plan is to start with the Maui Wowi because there is almost 90 seeds, the two soaking now will give me a clue on what to expect with the other strains which are in the 30's.

I plan on doing 6 with the GA3 at first if I don't see any action on these two...seems like 150 ppm in RO water is a good starting point...soak time within 48 hrs to crack, and then dump with a diluted mix on paper towels and hope for taps in 12-24 hrs, then in to a rapid rooter in a dome with 75% RH and 80 degree temps, keeping the rooter misted damp untill roots are fully out.

If I can get them that far, I will have seeds....it may take 9 months and I may have to chop a hole in my floor or make them grow horizontial...but I will get it done!

I can show you how to keep sativas very small using LST to grow them horizontally to minimise the stretch.

I get some of these to pop you bet!...When I start thinking of my old grows, a picture of a "tree" posted early on your Landrace thread, probably in the first 10 pages, in a back yard in the city is what I remember my grows looking like....just more secluded!

I get these going, look out for PM's!:thumb:

re: OTM's DIY Bubble Cloning & Sprouting 40 Year Old Seeds & Current RDWC Harvest

I would dark out the reservoir to avoid the roots getting light on them. They don't like that very much

My first attempt at cloning is complete...now to get them to root is another story!

This is my $10 bubble cloner, a 5qt storage tub form the dollar store (2 for $1.00), closed cell foam that came with one of my lights (free) 8" Chinese air stone ($1.92) and a Tetra whisper air pump (7.95), I had the air line on hand.

My lights didn't cost me much more and consists of 2 2' 2 bulb T5 housings I picked up at a rummage sale for $5.00 each, some sheet aluminum from a construction project I had laying around and 4 17 watt T8 grow bulbs that cost me $19.95.

I plan on adding another LED to my set-up in the near future because both of my 1200 watt Chinese LED's are used for flower, not sure if I want to upgrade the flower lights or just get a veg light...one thing I know is I am sticking with LED style lights because of how cool they run.

I sniped of 3 lower branches on the best looking White Widow and Purple Kush, stuck them in RO water and proceeded to add them to the cloner by recutting the stem at a 45 degree angle, trimming away and snipping some of lower leaves, and gently peeling some of the last 1 1/2" of stem. I applied some Clonex to the area and set the clones so that the 45 degree cut is just sticking in the water.

The water used is one gallon of RO water with 0.5 ml Rez Clear, 0.5 ml of Silicate, 1 ml of Calimagic, and 2 ml of Rapid Start. The PPm's are at 170 and PH was adjusted to 5.6.

Right now I have the lights about 7" above and will slowly lower them a bit because under the scrog there was not a lot of light reaching these so they might be a little delicate and I don't want to stress them anymore than they just went through.

This is my first attempt at this so if you see anything that I did wrong or needs tweeking, let me know!:helpsmilie:

re: OTM's DIY Bubble Cloning & Sprouting 40 Year Old Seeds & Current RDWC Harvest

The plants will still survive the little light. But you will get a horrible build-up of algae and that's kinda sucky. Use duct tape or whatever to darken the reservoir. It will save you loads of trouble

re: OTM's DIY Bubble Cloning & Sprouting 40 Year Old Seeds & Current RDWC Harvest

I really hope these beans will crack. I've seen other's trying to revive 40 year old seeds and failing. If they have been stored well you should have a fair chance though. Also you can buy small seed revival kits on eBay I believe, but not sure if they work or not

re: OTM's DIY Bubble Cloning & Sprouting 40 Year Old Seeds & Current RDWC Harvest

I found it OTM. I'm looking forward to seeing you get those beans to crack

Re: OTM's DIY Bubble Cloning & Sprouting 40 year old seeds+Current RDWC Harvest

Well I can tell you are a lot younger than I am, and I bet you can't ID the picture...maybe Snarly or Lady A can...
Hmmmm, can't quite get who it is. I'll probably smack myself in the forehead when you tell us LOL

re: OTM's DIY Bubble Cloning & Sprouting 40 Year Old Seeds & Current RDWC Harvest

My first thought is Red Foxx, but I know that's not who it is. The profile is somewhat similar though.

You know, Lady, I have it pictured in my head, but still can't place it.
It's the same type thing as going into the kitchen for something, and then wondering why you went there :thedoubletake:

Oh my goodness, yes! My coffee cup is always lost.

re: OTM's DIY Bubble Cloning & Sprouting 40 Year Old Seeds & Current RDWC Harvest

Nope, I gave Toasted a pretty good clue over on his journal...I'll have to think of another...

Well, damn, I'm wrong in both threads LOL

I plan on changing the water a couple times and as soon as I get some root growth, I will move them in a bigger light proof tote, a couple will probably go in to coco coir.

I used a clear tub much like this to get my current gals ready for the big system without any nasties, but I did keep a eye out and used rez clear as a precaution.

I did order some GA3 for the old beans!:thanks:
