OTM's DIY Bubble Cloning & Sprouting 40 Year Old Seeds & Current RDWC Harvest

I just finished my first Coco grow and it's far easier and much less maintenance than my DWC/Aero grow I've found. I use blumats and a 5 gallon reservoir to automatically water my Smart Pots with Coco. I simply pop open the tank once or twice a day to make sure I've got enough to last till the next time I check. There's a small water pump in the res that keeps things circulating. Other than that that's pretty much it for irrigation. No timers or anything, the blumats open up and water the pots automatically when the moisture level of the Coco is drier than they are. Used Canna nutes, never had to adjust ph or anything. The perfect lazy, low maintenance grow. I guess after a few grows I just realized that I was overthinking everything and making my operation far too complicated...it's just weed, not a space shuttle launch.

Welcome aboard beornn! :welcome:

Your right, its not rocket science, but it does take some studying to learn what you want to accomplish! I did the same with a cheap auto water system and will try to improve it to work better for me down the road.

Amen to that. A couple hundred bucks for a monitor is a hard pill to swallow but once you've pulled the trigger you'd wonder how you ever got by without it.

Dawg, you and I seem to think a lot alike...In my business over the years I have had to swallow many of those pills the were well over 10X the $200 of the monitor...they always made my job easier and always paid me back in the end!:thumb:

Ya just don't ever buy shitty tools for a job....no matter what.

Sounds like my kind of thinking. Having peace of mind and paying extra money is worth it to me. My entire grow is, in my opinion, filled with top of the line nutrients, and hardware. It's allowed me to focus and worry about my plants, training, and reflecting on my mistakes rather than constantly stressing about equipment.

Back in the day, growing 6-8 ft trees outdoors didn't take a lot of high tech, it took a lot of manual labor, luck, and research which was the next copy of High Times magazine in my case!

Try digging (12) 4' x 4' holes with a shovel, moving the dirt with a wheelbarrow to a pile and then shoveling a pick-up box load of chicken shit and compost in and back out while mixing it up and carting it back to refill the hole...been there...done that and did the same the next year because the first year went well!

I know many growers don't have the funds to fork out up front, and I wouldn't recommend that they do until they maybe get the first grow out of the way. Then look at the results, compare it with others that are doing the same and if it is something they like and want to improve on, adding tools the help and improve is well worth the extra investment!;)

The only thing i wonder about is my lights, cause they were cheap.

Agemon, my lights are the cheap Chinese Burples and so far so good, they are 2 1200 watt lights that draw just under 600 real watts and my investment was only $300 shipped to my door...they haven't missed a beat and have a full warranty for 3 years...I took the $$$ I saved on the high priced lights and invested it into the GrowBoss monitor.

I am the definition of cheap according to my ex-wife! :laughtwo:

I cut corners when I think I can like the DIY $10 bubble cloner and $15 Scrog net...like I told her, "I am tastefully frugal"

I went on the lower end of light costs, but I don't think I cheaped out. When all is said and done I've invested a fair chunk of change into my setup, but when the new light and tent are up and running I'll feel great, and when I'm pulling ounces I'd have paid up to $300-400 for (the price of premium legal medical stuff up here is not low) I'll have it "paid off". Ie. it would have cost me more to buy the stuff I grew than to buy the gear and grow it myself. I figured one harvest would give me more weed than I'd be able to buy for the cost of my first tent setup, and a second will pay back my second tent setup.

My view on things tends to be, do it right the first time, so I did a lot of research to understand what I wanted to accomplish and what I needed to get there. I'd love to put some $1000+ light on top but it's just too big an expense right now. I don't think my lights will in any way prevent me from reaching my goals and keeping me in supply.

The old bean report remains unchanged other than the GA3 is at my local PO sorting center and should be delivered tomorrow! It looks like Sunday will be the day for a proper old bean soak so stay tuned!

Wishing everyone a great weekend! :thanks:

Looking awesome OTM! That net really filled out eh? Do you think you'll SCROG your next run as well based on how it has gone so far?

It worked out for me with my first grow.. an ounce of bud that is sometimes as good as the stuff i grew costs 380. I yielded four ounces and spent around a grand altogether.. about an ounce and a half of it isn't that great cause of a crappy strain but the rest is fire. So with what i havent been spending on weed, i used that to buy my dwarf star im getting tomorrow. But i do agree if you get the right cheapo light it can do very well.. my 300w viparspectra grew those four ounces by itself basically so that is pretty damn impressive. About 1g per watt with it getting around 130 out of the wall and i did have a total of around 130 gs, not including the trim. That scrog is looking awesome man so many colas a coming your way!

Defiantly, but I will plan the next better, mixing coco and RDWC the way my system is set up works, but the next 6 plant grow would have the coco gals up front, watering is not easy with them in the middle.

Depending on how I do with the old beans, I may divide the 5x10 room with coco on one side and RDWC on the other, move the tent out for dedicated old bean sex and buy another 4x4 for clone/veg...spending more $$$!...once you start...it never ends!

I hear you Toast, I will be watching what that Dwarf does for your young ladies, it will be a good test and a fun journey!

For my situation I would have to go with the Goliath, 1000, or COB to light my area and we are talking 3X what I spent on my current set-up. I will have to buy another light soon so get that Dwarf up and running to convince me!:thumb:

Yea i would have saved up for one of those but i didnt want to turn the whole room into a grow room lol. Im good with two or three plants.. for now. Watch some of his videos.. growpotcheaply on youtube. I think it will help convince you, it convinced me and ive been following a few other people on here using his lights as well.

Awh man. Wish I would have known you were looking at lights. I'll be letting go of my 1200w. I would have given you a sick deal. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on a COB setup from timber lights.
