OMM's Social Network Part 3

I'm with Mr. Krip - hydro baby!

Dirt? Ewwww, icky. ;)

:cheesygrinsmiley: I love it!!

Buckshot: One thing I found about a bark based soil it is much more tolerant of high pH/ high solid water due to flushing and natural acidity. I used to use RO water with commercial soil mixes, but was able to switch to tap water with the 5-1-1. That might be a bonus for anyone that uses RO water now that might want to try it in a pot or two :thumb:

My water is 8 ph well water and full of "stuff" :cheesygrinsmiley:... hmmm .... double hmmm

PS what the hell does RO mean?

I use the Reverse Osmosis water. That is one reason I like the dirt better. I use much less water and much much less nutes than I used for hydro. Gotta give a plug for DIRT!!

I have been using the Blue Planet Nutes along with the OC and the plants really seem to love the combination. I am using about half strength and it looks like they can handle more!

OMG, did I start a dirt vs. hydro discussion? Eeek! Well I've done both, with the aim of low maintenance, and I do find a good soil much less work once I dialed it in. It's also more forgiving. The soil I use is so airy that it does act like a hydro aero medium. Even the roots look like those white herringbones you get in hydro. Best of both worlds....Plus I can do it outside easily.

Buckshot: My water varies between pH 8-8.5, solids ~300 ppm, mostly calcium carbonate, and I don't get any sign of nute lockout or deficiency. Same water doesn't work well at all in hydro.

o.m.m. while in viet nam ,we grunts had a saying "don't mean nothin". You know I have brought it back a lot lately.Hanging out with retirees a lot older than me,I am amazed at how little they complain about anything. most of them have kids my age .lol
oh yea I just wanted to get a comment before this one is done. lol

Dirt Good:)

Well OMM, one way to get your journal motoring again, although another story would be the easiest.... Part 4 looks like it will start soon. :cheertwo:

I sure hope Part 4 is about doin it in the Dirt!!
:partyboy:

Aloha OMM! :surf:

I've been super busy at home and a little under the weather lately, so I'm way behind. I'm still way behind, but I had to quick say hello! Now, to get caught up...

:reading420magazine:

Hey Xlr8 ! :high-five:

I've been liking through your journal Buddy. I know you have been busy/feeling bad so I totally understand. Take care of #1 first Brother. You have one busy journal that's chock full of good tips and information. If you rest for a bit I'm sure everyone would understand, after all you need our mmj too. :peace:
If I can ever help let me know.
:peace:

Well ... it got intense in here :cheesygrinsmiley: Holy Soil Batman! I am glad you are OK now OMM, I had never seen you flare up before!! I got nothing but pine all around me!!! :cheesygrinsmiley: so I was kinda getting into it a bit. As I was thinking on it I looked over at my orchids and what do you know? They are in bark and if anybody wants to try this, soil for orchids is basically bark and it is easy to get. The problem for OMM, me and others that have a hard time watering already is it would mean extra vigilance and work. I got some coco that I have not run just because of the extra-everything!! :cheesygrinsmiley: I am lucky to still be able to get happy frog and do... but... I wonder if it is not a source of some of my fungus gnat problems and the last run had mold (maybe some of the reasons it is not on the Island?) I looked into the soil you are running OMM and it looks pretty sweet, they have a pile of choices, I think the one they had was a lot like ocean forest. I am still on the lookout for a replacement to happy frog not because of the product but because of the way I was treated by Foxfarm.

OMM ... rock :allgood: on! :green_heart:

Hi there Buckshot. :high-five:

Yep. blew my top for no good reason.....all a stupid mistake on my part. I hope I'm not turning into a grouchy old man. I don't think I am, but ya never know.
Too bad we can't grow with bark....sure would be easy. I don't think Happy Frog did you in. Ocean Forest yes, but not Happy Frog. There is another soil that has been used for years by one of our best growers "Norcaliwood". It's Black Gold. I am using that this grow...mixed with what I could find locally...The means Ocean Forest....which is too hot for me......so I am mixing Black Gold with it to cool it down a bit.

After this grow is finished, I will not be growing for a while. Like all houses here in Hawaii, we have to have our house tented to kill termites. Cost about 5 to $7,000 to get it done. Everything has to sit for a couple of days to make sure it kills em all. After that, we will probably refinance and upgrade everything. An on going process here. :peace:

Hi john235. Yep, I know what you mean. Beemerbill and that lot (including me) are fun to hang around with. The anthem is "been there, done that!". The grand opening of my journal is not too far away now. Hope to see you in there looking around and keeping me straight.:high-five:

Mando, I know it seems like I'm taking my sweet time before starting my nest grow officially. I just want to get all my ducks in a row before starting it. One of those go slow to go fast kind of things. If I can think of a quick story, I'll post it. :peace:

Reverse Osmoses. Very clean water.....a perfect PH of 7.

I dream of turning my house into a tent! :yahoo:

That's right Mr. Krip, one big ass tent. Lucky for us we don't have pets anymore. Last time we had 3 cats and a dog. They were very unhappy in a 2 bedroom apartment. :peace:

Some 5-0 man did that on our island last year!! OMM remembers that. Had a med card ( police arent supposed to have one here??)
....but was obviously cash cropping! They caught him with two pounds in his car.

I'm gonna ring your phone after I have me a bite to eat OMM!
