OMM's Social Network Part 3

Mando, I know it seems like I'm taking my sweet time before starting my nest grow officially. I just want to get all my ducks in a row before starting it. One of those go slow to go fast kind of things. If I can think of a quick story, I'll post it. :peace:

Looking forward to both! Curious about the termite work. I assume you have to move somewhere else temporarily?

Hi Mando. Yep, we will get a hotel room for few days. Residents get a discount at most hotels. We might even go to Waikiki and be tourist for few days. It's been over 20 years since we lived in Waikiki.:Namaste:

Hi Ya OMM, I have learned so much from you for a few years now, learned from your failures and successes. ! I have been really entertained by your stories and feel privilaged that you shared your life experiences with all of us. I feel as though you are a big brother to so many here in :420:. O.M.M. YOU ROCK !!!!!!!!

How's it Growing Unk-O :hippy:

Those little squatters are some pretty ones, hope we get a up and close picture of each...like in them old'n days. lol

Love you and respect!

High Ya Nephew. :thumb:

Little squatters describes them perfectly. There's more work to be done on them yet, but they will deserve the up close and personal look. I want some bushes this time. Going to be a while before the next grow. Gleep! May the force be with me.:high-five:

Hey Closet Farmer, you mentioned using BPN and OC together and needing more nutes. OC works like a RO filter (osmosis), when nutes get "low" the little prills release more nutes, when levels are "good" they don't release any nutes. If you are using the BPN, the OC is probably being not used at all since it senses the "good" level of nutes. I would use one or the other at a greater strength to get what your plants need. I'm assuming you are using the BPN each watering......if not, maybe some OC is being dispensed on the plain water days.

Wow clayhead, Thank You ! Believe me I've gotten back more than I've put in. It's been some fun years for me. I hope 420 continues along time after I'm gone. The Boss has done a wonderful thing for all of us. Not only do we learn how to grow killer buds, we help allot of people. :high-five:

Yeah, what clayhead said!

Class act all the way OMM!

What you say makes sense and I think the same way. Last few grows have been oc exclusively. This grow I add BPN to the OC. The plants seem to be doing better than with oc alone. OC is so inexpensive and works really great. I plan to increasing the BPN with my oc soil to see what happens. I don't think I will ever stop using the oc. If adding BPN is over kill and the plants are thriving I will continue using both.:thumb:

This is great information. Do you know where I can find more information on this? I've been using additional nutes for micronutrients, as I have not purchased OC+, but OC, but this is really good to know. I got the impression it was watering alone that released the layers. Is this the difference between slow release and controlled release? That certainly changes how to think when working with it.

Hey Xlr8 ! :high-five:

I've been liking through your journal Buddy. I know you have been busy/feeling bad so I totally understand. Take care of #1 first Brother. You have one busy journal that's chock full of good tips and information. If you rest for a bit I'm sure everyone would understand, after all you need our mmj too. :peace:
If I can ever help let me know.
:peace:

Thanks buddy, I'm with the others: you rock! :theband:

My understanding is that "controlled release" fertilizers work based on moisture and temperatures in the soil. They are coated with a moisture sensitive membrane, which releases the nutrient when the temperature is within a specific range.

From a "greenhouse" related magazine: "Once the CRF prill has absorbed water, soil temperature determines the release rate of nutrients. Depending on the product, the ideal release temperature (i.e., the temperature used to predict the duration of the fertilizer release) can vary from 70°F to 78°F (21°C to 25°C). For example, one type of CRF has an ideal release temperature of 70°F. For a fertilizer with a six-month release rate, 90 to 95 percent of the nitrogen fertilizer contained in the prills will be released over six months if the temperature of the medium is maintained at an average of 70°F."

"...Slow-release fertilizers (SRF)s differ from controlled-release fertilizers in one important way. The release of nutrients from slow-release fertilizers are dependent on multiple factors, not just a single factor like media temperature. Therefore, the nutrient release from SRFs is less predictable than from controlled-release fertilizers."

Thanks Xlr8. That's more in line with how I thought it worked. I do remember about higher temps releasing faster. In fact, I do remember reading that passage before.

Just basics of how I understand SRF and CRF fertilizers, but I have no cannabis experience using them. I also don't know much about OC or OC+ specifically. OMM, CF and others have grown really nice bud with it.

As far as the OC or OC+ stuff, I trust whatever OG13 says on it. Frankly, OG knows his stuff - and is one really bright dude. Not sure if I've ever disagreed with any advice he's given, and have learned a lot from him. If he told me plugging a radio into my plants at the stem would improve yield, I'd say... "How high up?" and then plug the damned thing in!!

Hey No problem OMM ......I know that you probably think of me as just a Kid because I'm only 62 years old but I still flash back to that pic of you at about 18 or 19 with the slightly longer hair and the black rimmed glasses ....you know the Clark Kent pic ! LOL Take Care Brother

I loved that pic! The one with the birth control glasses!! LOL!!

Hi there Buckshot. :high-five:

Yep. blew my top for no good reason.....all a stupid mistake on my part. I hope I'm not turning into a grouchy old man. I don't think I am, but ya never know.
Too bad we can't grow with bark....sure would be easy. I don't think Happy Frog did you in. Ocean Forest yes, but not Happy Frog. There is another soil that has been used for years by one of our best growers "Norcaliwood". It's Black Gold. I am using that this grow...mixed with what I could find locally...The means Ocean Forest....which is too hot for me......so I am mixing Black Gold with it to cool it down a bit.

After this grow is finished, I will not be growing for a while. Like all houses here in Hawaii, we have to have our house tented to kill termites. Cost about 5 to $7,000 to get it done. Everything has to sit for a couple of days to make sure it kills em all. After that, we will probably refinance and upgrade everything. An on going process here. :peace:

Hope your upgrades include a closet for a closet farmer to sleep in!!! Medi Bud here I come!! :rocker: Just don't tell Jo!!
