Oldsmokey Goes Hydro

Yes it is. I’ve used it, still do from time to time as well. I’ll run it for a couple days, let it do its thing, then back to bleach.

Why would you use bleach?

I felt like it did more for me than Hydroguard. I fell you on the foaming though but I never
had it as bad as you. I didn't run an airstone in my hydro either.
Its expensive, dies off and needs to be replaced every couple days, and is messy. Hydroguard isn't perfect, but I like it

$35 for both a quart of A & B at my hydro store, Hydroguard is $21 for the quart. I walked out thinking I had robbed them of the Z7 and they only charged me for the pints. My hydro store is pretty awesome for walk-ins, even their online prices are good.
Yeah, my hydro place has it for $20 a quart. Its not always the silver bullet, but Its just so easy.

Ive had MAJOR issues with filchy water in the past, but most came about due to me being dumb. H2O2 has saved me more than once. But, I've also ruined a season by using just a bit too much. Cervates has said he doesn't recommend peroxide in hydroponics at all, but I think it has its place... you just need to work out that place for yourself and treat it with respect.

Sterile res, light dosage.

It’s evaporated in a day, and some dose daily. I prefer to think every other day is fine, and enough to keep things in check.

Thats cool. I guess my question is... You can use any Res. Klein product conceived of by man, why Clorox? Chloride is an essential micronutrient for plants, in much smaller doses, do you see a nutrient benefit?

My only worry is that you didn't add enough enzymes and the creeping death got a foothold.

I hope not but here is pic I just took of the plant with the ugliest roots. She is praying like MF right now.

I was going to mention this. Z7 is great stuff, good bang for the buck.
I keep hearing that z9 is the Canadian version but I can't find it anywhere online or in store.

Go to Flying Skulls website, then to the store locator. The second from the bottom on that very long list in a place in Ontario with stock on hand to ship (I just checked their website). See if that tickles your fancy.
Damn dude, nice details.

Obviously people water plants with tap water all the time. Outside, inside, whatever. And there’s enough there to keep the pipes sterile.

I agree chlorine is on the list of micros, the encyclopedia even lists it. Whether or not I actually am seeing any benefit in plant growth responding to that is another matter. One could say yes, because it’s keeping the roots free of trouble. Aside from that, I can’t say. Other than the res is sterile.

Hydroguard works. I have it, ran it religiously up until earlier this year with Z7. (No foaming issues for me. I mix both parts together, then dump.)

My only issue with hydroguard is cleaning up after it. All the bennie muck. Of course, duh, that’s what it is/does/is for.

Z7 is compatible with bleach, but I don’t run them together. I’ve been using it one time every other week in lieu of another dose of bleach, but more for general cleaning and tuning.

I’d rather run SM90, but it’s off the market still. There is also Zone from Dutch Master, but it’s pretty much bleach or maybe even chloramine or something. Of course it has a few more things for the root zone, but I figure the bi-weekly zip of Z7 helps with that a bit anyway.

Best thing is bleach is cheap. So good to go.

Now I almost want to go look at my roots, but that would involve ripping the roots out of the buckets. I don’t use enzyme, but spores that grow things that produce enzymes instead. Your temperatures are good and you have lots of oxygen so I don’t know

Hydrogen peroxide and chlorine are both oxidizers so function the same way. The peroxide provides oxygen on decomposition but the chlorine provides chloride (salt). I prefer oxygen

Thanks P I found it.
I was talking to @McRib from New Zealand the other day... I guess they don't have anything to keep water from going pollywog and was looking for advice. I put him in contact with someone I talk to on occasion from somewhere else that was using enzymes to keep ponds clear. I haven't heard how thats turning out.

H2O2 is good, yes. To use it for a sterile res, full time, not so cheap. I can deal with salt, and use the savings on more important aspects.
