Oh No - It's A Green Hole! - Reverse Thrusters! - Dammit - Too Late!

I opened the package this morn and tossed three Malawi seeds into an icecream bucket with some damp paper towel in the bottom- lid on, in a warm room. I'll check whenever I'm back home, lol.

Haha, I like your style! It looks like it works out for you just fine!

Malawi sounds very interesting. Though Conradino's review sorta cooled my enthusiasm a little - saying it's so so speedy and all...

I'll have to check out that review. I was reading the Ace Seeds description and I don't know if I'm experienced enough to smoke it! Maybe I'll just hang out here and see if those seeds pop and become top-heavy plants!

Hahahha weasel thats the best fine print ive ever seen and i didnt even have to break out my glasses lol. Hey OMU i hear ya on the waiting i been waiting for 2 years just got the approval letter like less then a month before my hearing so now i dont have to go to that but theres the crap they gotta do to figure out how much i will get and i gotta wait at a max of 60 days to do that interview then it can be 30 days after that before they will pay me the coin as well.

Finally caught up here. I've been under the weather and haven't been feeling like typing more than I have to lately. I think your brown hole has wandered into my orbit too. :)

Had to get up at the ungodly hour of 7am to attend an appeal hearing for my disability. Got a positive vibe about it and hoping for approval. They owe me up to 2 1/2 years of back payments so if I get approved I see new grow room goodies in my future for Xmas! Be up to a month before I find out for sure and maybe a bit longer before I see any coin but have as many digits crosse as I can and still type. lol

I use silica from the time they are sprouts WC. I used to use some cheap stuff and it said on the bottle to add it first to your water then adjust the pH. The pH would go up to 10 and needed a fair amount of pH down to get it to around 7 where I would add all my other nutes then check the pH again and make any final adjustments. I got AN's Rhino Skin the last time and it seems to go in fine without any wild swings in pH. Almost out of that after 4 years so it's top of my wish list. I've never had PM or bud rot to any extent so I think it's a good additive to have. Especially with my growing in DWC with RO water and soilless too as there isn't likely any silica in either scenario.

Real dirt usually has adequate Si naturally so it's not such a big deal but I was reading recently that there is no real toxic level so you can't really do any wrong to your plants by using it. I think it's worth using but it still doesn't make stems strong enough to support the massive colas that most of the good strains can produce. It does make them tougher so they resist cracking when bent a bit too much. I find mine just seem to crush leaving the fibers intact tho the skin does break sometimes. Rolling the stem hard between your fingers before bending seems to help. You can feel the core "give" and then they bend pretty easy.

OldMed I really hope that the disability review goes your way. Sending you some positive energy.
Thanks for all the info about silicon. That doesn't sound as drastic as 'stems like steel', which I heard before and freaked me out a bit about using it..
It's not really my brown hole. In fact it's more just an annual weather system effect which occurs in my locality and, I suspect, elsewhere. Picture one of those weather systems that look like a huge Danish. Only a brown one, circling overhead with a sucking motion. It builds and continues to suck more/harder until Christmas- starts to dissipate sometime after New Years, dispersing into a brown cloud, which hovers till spring.

I'm 99% sure it was you, OMU, who talked about using vegetable oil to wipe the blades with when trimming (?) I'd completely forgotten that tip, but it popped into my head right when I needed it most. I got some olive oil and dribbled a bit on a cloth which I spread out and I would occasionally sorta use it as a strop to wipe the scissors off on. I knew in a millisecond that this trick with the oil is a lifesaver and I will never go back to not using it. THANK YOU!!

Hey JoJo- these are how the Malawi seeds looked when I returned late this morn, after 48 hours. Well- yesterday morning it is now, I suppose. I planted them tonight.
By 'review' I just meant the comments from Conradino last time he was here, I think, probably a page or two back, where he says something like it's too strong and speedy for everyday smoking.
We shall see. The reviews I read from growers sounded very positive. :thumb:

So I managed to live through the trimming, though it was a bit epic.

A typical screen full of flopped over P Chunk.

Trimmed for over ten hours in total to get the three PCs done. Maybe because I purposely let the plants go quite dry at the end, the buds were ridiculously sticky and gummy. It was a bit like taking the scissors to a piece of toffee or melted marshmallow. When I put any pressure at all on the buds they liked to squish together into gummy wads . If it wasn't for the tip from OMU of using oil to wipe the scissor's blades with, I would have been in big trouble.
Here are some pics of the buds. I'm happy I left them so long, even though they were a pain to trim. They were, overall, very nice and ripened. The plants were all around 100 days in flowering. There were a lot of dead leaves after being flushed for so long. Most all of the little fan leaves which grow out of the buds were completely yellow/orange and dead. A hassle to remove.

I broke into the jar of Mama Thai buds I harvested few weeks back and to my pleasant surprise this batch is way stronger than the previous stuff ( which was from the plant that grew nanners) and this stopped the trimming for a good while as I got lost in playing guitar and taking a few pics of the PC's stem.
It's super nice and has that happy hallucinogenic sort of high that I love about Thai.
Which reminds me, I found a few dozen good seeds in the buds. PC/Mama Thai cross, from the MT with nanners.
Pineapple Chunk stem.

Planted the three Malawi sprouts. The vegging Thai Stick and clones are happy.

I'm tired! Hope all is well out there. Talk to you guys later. ❤️

Congrats on chopping those sticky buds Weasel.

Congrats on the PC harvest pal!!

100+ days is an awful long time but I'm sure it will be well worth the wait.
:yummy::rollit:

I notice that some folks use multiple pairs of scissors when trimming due to gumming up problems but I've never had to do this since I began coating my blades with oil.
The gummy scissor hash that does stick to the blades is easy to remove if the blades are oiled up before use. I also clean with alcohol and reapply olive oil about every hour or two while trimming which also seems to help.

Enough about the garden, what kind of guitar do you have there WC? Are you an accomplished guitar virtuoso or just a mellow unaccomplished strummer like myself?

Thanks all! One of my few successful harvests now to date! :thumb: Either things are changing since I've joined 420 and started a journal, and somehow I've shamed myself into growing something that doesn't go straight into the trimmings bin, or else I'm just getting unusually lucky lately. Luck is always going to be a huge factor here. I will also sacrifice a goat- first chance I get.
One thing I forgot to mention but was happily surprised to see, was that there was almost zero mold. I found a couple teeny little spots of budrot in the whole mess. The dehumidifier seems to be doing it's job. I got about 5- 10% loss from budrot with the pineapple chunk in the time or two I grew it before the journal, and that was doing all I could to keep it at bay. Without the dehum, if I had left all those buds laying squashed together like that for so long, it would have been certain disaster.

Congrats on your harvest Weasel + reps

Thanks Bapple. I feel a bit bad that I didn't get any budrot and you did. I almost wanted to find some for you, out of sympathy. Oh well, believe me- if I was growing outdoors I'd have budrot to spare.

Nice harvest M9! wow so many harvests on 420 this week! do you have your cardboard box ready to hang them?

V

Thanks Vlad. And thanks all you guys for the nice words.
Yeah it's pretty awesome seeing all the harvests at this time of year! Before I joined this forum I worked away cluelessly in the grow, torturing and killing plants mainly, and once in awhile harvesting something worthwhile. Each grow is a struggle against the forces of nature, fate, and my own self. Now that I'm here I see that it's not just me, and every harvest generally is the end of a small yet epic personal struggle.
I don't have a cardboard box. Early in the journal I modified a small refrigerator to make a drying box. I'm still tweaking the process but for now- I've been putting a computer fan on the top vent of it, just for the first night to get the buds shrunk down a bit and calm my fears of mold. Then after that night I just let the herb sit in the box on the racks and dry slowly. It seems to work out well. I may be able to skip the fan part but haven't been around enough to try it and monitor.
I'm pretty sure my flowering room is humid enough that it's not capable of getting over dried. I've never taken it out and had the RH in the curing jar show less than 60. Usually it's about 70 after sitting there a week or so.

Congrats on the PC harvest pal!!

Thanks UncleC. Actually when I first did the math last night I accidentally added a month and thought it was 130 days-which I wouldn't have been surprised about. 100 days seems alright after going up to almost 150 with a couple other PC phenos which I subsequently axed, and I was kind of surprised they were so 'fast' this time and, more importantly, are also actually ripe.
I could barely afford the one pair of scissors. Multiple pairs is way out of my league! Though it occurred to me last night that if I ever lucky enough to have my girlie there to help me trim sometime I'd better try and get another pair.

I wouldn't have time to be a guitar virtuoso if I ever even had the patience and studious type brain for it. I have mostly just always noodled and improvised without having much clue what I was doing. Much like my grow. I don't recommend it really. I can improvise well and play something that makes me happy, If that spot in my brain is switched on, but would probably fail music class instantly. Playing music saved my life though when I was a messed up kid. I really don't think I'd be here if I hadn't had guitars.
The guitar is a Seagull. They're made in Quebec I believe by a company that makes a few other guitar models. Red cedar top. They're quite cheap, but can really sing on a good day. I wear out guitars pretty fast and then start modifying things and rebuilding them and stuff, in order to finish wrecking them faster :)

Ha! Girlie help. I don't really handle the plants too much for fear of failing a drug test. I usually sip a cold beer while momma cuts them up. Quite possibly the sexiest event of my old and boring life. She's a relatively moderate user but dead stoned after a 2 plant harvest. If I ever enter mug of the month, it's going to have to be one of the first buds she trims and anything off plant 2 doesn't stand a chance. Yeah, I know.. Latex gloves are an option. Let's hope she never finds out!
