Oh No - It's A Green Hole! - Reverse Thrusters! - Dammit - Too Late!

Hah! I've seen a few grows of this "Malawi" strain and was interested, but I hadn't seen that description yet! I actually got the name stuck in my head the other day and caught myself saying "Malawi" at random stuff... Destiny!? I may have to give this strain a try, as I too look forward to nice sativas. Plus I've only grown 8 week flowering strains, so it would teach me some more patience!

You always have such good off-topic info through your journal!

Thanks JoJo. Re the Malawi- definitely a sign. :thumb:
I find with the perpetual grow, and the super busy yet unstructured nature of my life, that really it makes almost no difference to me whether a strain takes 8 weeks or 14. Though- I've hardly ever had a strain that seemed to me to be ready in 8 weeks. I find that I just keep on doing what I'm doing, and plants just keep growing.
The long flowering strains are no trouble at all when you've always got herb coming in. Actually, I find that 3 or 4 months seems to go by awfully fast. When plants come up for harvest it can be a pile of work, as you know. The work keeps coming too- and if one particular pile of trimming work is 4 months away- so much the better.

I've got my Malawi seeds standing by. Going to run 1 Malawi, 1 Maui Waui, 1 Buzz Light Gear, and 1 Panama under a screen. That Malawi sounds interesting.

You've got the same Malawi, Spitz? Cool. It does sound very interesting. I like how the write up is a bit frightening. I'm going to be looking at those seeds with a touch of fear, and will have to screw up my courage to sprout one, and unleash this fearsome plant, conquerer of 'soft smokers'.

By the way- I want to mention again how lovely your garden is- those shots of the natural jungle of plants inside your tent are so gorgeous, and make me want to stop scrogging.

Hey man. Thanks for stopping in! I don't know if I have anything much going on here worthy of your interest - but I'll take the chance to say thanks again for that awesome Landrace thread. Goes right to the exotic heart of the matter. Right where I want to be too- though my climate keeps me indoors for growing.

I know this is such basic information, but you phrased it in a way that made my brain actually pay attention to it. Thank you CC.

Yeah it slightly confused me at least enough to make me read it a few times too, and think it over, and think about how it works with seasons in the outdoors. Well put :thumb:
I've been working away at Lembatoast's journal from both ends. Got a long ways to go before I meet myself I the middle. I'm envious of all outdoor growers. It's the most wonderful thing growing outside. Wet climate- plus once had a bad experience with some sort of 'surveillance drones', and with the drones who run the drones. Maybe I'll line up a good mold resistant strain and grow one or two next year.

Hey WC, finally getting a chance to catch up on your journal (couple weeks later than intended LOL) I am relatively new to the grow and smoking as you know, but of the 2 strains I have finished inside, I find the THC Bomb works well for pain and allowing me to sleep through the night pain free. Something I haven't done in years and I haven't taken prescription meds in weeks now :) I pack my pipe and smoke a bowl 1/2hr to 1hr before I want to go to sleep and within 10-15mins the pain eases and within an hour I go to sleep.

I even use it through the day when I need pain relief but I use a dry herb vaporizer through the day on the low temperature setting, take 2-3 pulls and again the pain eases within a few minutes but doesn't make me sleepy :)

I have 4 Bomb strains outside, that will start to be harvested when I get home the end of the month, to try as well :)

Thanks Celt. I'm jealous of your garden too my friend- and like I said- pray that things get legalized in our country, someday....Thanks for the tip on the Thc Bomb. I see a lot of people growing it - I'll do some googling. I still like that typo you made the other day- 'Cheery bomb' - the perfect name for just the right new strain!

:goodjob: glad to see you got a journal

mate ill catch up proper soon , have had a couple of deaths lately , ( friends ) ..

Thanks Nutty P. I was very sorry to read of this in the MOTM thread. Best wishes getting through this. I don't know what difference it makes to the people affected that some random person out there (me) has them in his thoughts- but I'd like to believe that it registers in the cosmic balance somehow. If nothing else it brings me down to earth and gives me an extra bit of compassion on my end. Good luck man.

Malawi is just a great social/party kind of smoke, and I wouldn't use it for anything else. It's just way too speedy and confusing for personal meditations. Also when I toked it first I used a bong :bong: Later on I started rolling it, and it's more manageable that way :tokin:

Wow WC. What a friggen awesome journal full of info! I am subbed. Beautiful garden!

Awwww thanks Wrecked. Welcome

Thanks Conradino. I wonder if I'll like it? Perhaps not if it's speedy and confusing. There are many different ways to approach cannabis though, and hopefully I'll find a way to make it work. I just couldn't resist the write-up! I'm going to go google around a bit and see what people have to say about it.

Sorry for the late response. But I too never really gave it much thought until I had like an hour long conversation with one of the guys at my local hydro store. I figure they would know a bit more about water cycles than soil growers, and its fairly logical so I will be holding onto that tid bit of information. Of course, while we would be hard pressed to convince DWC growers other wise, these guys at my store have seen and lived the empirical data. I have even heard soil growers claim needing wet and dry cycles are a cannamyth. Not so.

Secondly, I believe it was Doc Bud who said it a while ago, but you will never truly know how much or when to water if you don't let you plants dry out to the point that they get a little droopy. Wet and dry cycles are pretty much the only way we as growers can quantify the needs of our plants.

I used to let them dry before watering, but I found that the peat moss in the mix makes it very hard to water once dried. Now I dont let them get that dry and have an easier time watering. I grow in fabric pots and they help mitigate the effects of over watering. Honestly the main reason why I keep things constantly humid is because of the soil life; I remember my teacher in the biology class mentioning bacterial populations are very sensitive to moisture changes.

For better or worse- usually worse, my watering cycle is mostly based on when I am able to be there to water. I control the wet-dry cycle by the size of pot/amount of sunshine mix, and sometimes the temp. I have it pretty well set up now though. With about seven gallons of mix (in a ten gallon pot) I can do a nice wet to dry cycle in five days or so. If a plant dries too fast I may add some mix to the top - to retain extra water, I'm not really expecting roots to spread into it. I'm generally around on weekends to deal with the (not so fine) fine tuning, and give them a full watering/feeding. I hope I have beneficials living in there. Whether I really do of course, is a mystery.

It certainly has beneficials, because many will survive the dry conditions. I just want to make sure I have as many as I can.

It does sound like things are very busy down there among a plant's roots. Somehow I figured it would be difficult for beneficials to survive in the peat moss when I'm constantly subjecting them to floods of relatively high nutrient levels. Reading more about it though, it sounds like it would actually be difficult/impossible to wipe out all the soil life without completely killing the plant as well. Somehow I feel the need to get more in touch with my invisible buddies down there. How, I don't know. Seeing is believing. I'm sure they don't know I exist either ;)

I briefly shot through. Harvested the WW. I don't expect too much from her. I considered tossing her in the hash trimmings collection, but gave her the benefit of the doubt and trimmed her up properly instead. I'll smoke a bit when it's dry, if I dare! Maybe best done later at night sometime in case it's one of those dopy indica highs, which tend to ruin my day. If nothing else maybe it will help me sleep. Otherwise I'll see what kind of hash it makes.
Here is a pic of the left side of the room. Blueberry in front. Newer WW in back right, newer PC left of that.

The PC is showing signs of nute burn from the Botanicare feeding schedule so I relented and gave her a mini-flush and a half strength feeding, about 600 ppm. The WW has been getting about this same level, 600 ppm, all along, and is doing fairly well. Not 100% happy but not as ravaged looking as her sister was, so far...
The Blueberry seems like a great plant. I hope she smokes as nice as she looks. She has a nice structure and grew well without any special treatment, definitely my kind of girl. I'm going to harvest her this week.

The right side of the room is a tangled mess of flopped over buds which I'm embarrassed to show you. Pineapple Chunk salad! I'll try and get a decent photo in a few days. :)

Ha ha. Well- I'm not there now but here are a couple pics from almost a week ago. What I wanted to capture, but didn't, was the white frostiness of the buds. I'll try again soon. I'll probably harvest at least one of the PCs by the weekend so may get a chance to drag it out into natural light to get a decent picture or two.
This Pineapple Chunk is actually looking pretty decent. It never produces large buds, but they are very dense and sticky.
The salad patch as of last week. It's worse now!

Nice salad :drool::grinjoint::yummy:

Everyone's making me jealous starting their harvests left right and centre. The SL just came in from work and has convinced me (that's my story anyway) to quick dry a bud off the ASD so we can see where we are.....

And Weasel that's not a salad, just a shed load of bud that has not been window dressed......still looks good from where I'm sitting.

Have a good day Weasel:high-five:
