Newbie's First Grow Journal

I spoke to my local grow shop and they told me to stay away from the 200w CFL's by Hydrofarm because they got too hot and melter at the base, that's why they stopped carrying them.. Anyone else heard of this? Any suggestions for supplemental lights?

Day 9 of MH's, I am seeing some stretching, mostly directly under the lights.. So when I feed them, I move these plants to the back of the tent..

Also, below are some pictures of suspected male plants.. I have 3 out of 11 that sorta look like male but not sure as this is my first grow. The bulb looking things sorta look leafy instead of solid smooth bulbs.. and on one plant, you can see white hairs forming in the bud.. What do you think?

The first three pictures are definitely male sacks.
Hermies will flower with their own pollen and form buds right there. That's what a Hermie is: a male and female plant in one.

I used to sell growing equipment, mostly from Hydro Farm's catalog. I have heard of the 200W being problematic. They also have a 125W version that is available in both Kelvin spectrums (veg'jng & flowering). It is definitely cooler and for most of my purposes, it handles 2 trays of cuttings (10" X 20") nicely.

Day 13 of the MH's and decided while it was feeding time I'd go ahead and switch to HPS bulbs..

I also bought a new digital camera! This one is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than my old one. Its a Sony DSC-HX20V model, does awesome on close-ups so today I have some baby bud porn for you! :)

First, here is the auto Blueberry, she is going quite well.. I can get even closer with this camera than this! :)

Ok.. so the MH's did control Stretch quite a bit! Only one day under the HPS's and a couple plants stretched 3 to 4 inches! This weekend I am putting in a trellis to try and lower the canopy a bit by LST'ing a little.. Not actualy bending them over but just enough to spread them out under the netting. I'll post some pictures when I'm done.

Get them Males outta there bro!! Dunno if you have already but yeah id get em outta there before they ruin ur girls:) All other than that lookin good. Nice one.. Smokem

Yeah, those males were taken out as soon as I knew they were males.. Though I am keeping them alive on the other side of the basement.. Figured I'd use some pollen to fertilize some of the popcorn buds to get seeds.

Yesterday, I made 2 lamps for supplemental lighting. Used 2 100w daylight bulbs for each and place each in the center of a group of 4 plants. Hoping this helps some of the popcorn turn into real buds.. Also used the wide angle feature of my new camera so that you can see the entire tent at once and also see the new lights in place.
