Thanks Mr smeegol, pennywise and stltoed. I have been researching how to germinate seeds and WOW, never seen so many people differ on how to do it and say don't do use paper towel don't cause it will hurt the seeds use rockwool don't use germination kit don't need to. So I just wanted to ask you if you have any suggestions for a brand new beginner to use?
Jorge Cervantes recommends you should take a matchbox, glue some course sand paper in it and use it to "scratch" the seeds by placing the seeds in the box and shaking them. This allows easier water entry into the shell and beyond... i havent done this yet, but it makes sense.
Some disinfect the seeds with a weak peroxide solution. This also makes sense and deserves your attention, as some seeds just dont make it for seemingly no reason.
BGHydro.com sells a great germination kit that has dis, growth adders, etc, but it aint cheap.
I soak the seeds for a day. I use a paper towel, but you need to watch to make sure the tap root doesnt grow into the towel. If it does, cut the paper towel and leave it with the root. Dont try to remove it. This is a critical time. Damage to your roots will affect your plants future. You wont be able to remove the tap root without damage.
Dont use rockwool... First of all, they need to be PHed. Which isnt hard, but its just a pain. Ive used Rockwool quite a bit and cant tell you how many perfectly good seeds ive planted just to see them stop growing immediately after germination. Save yourself the headache.
Use Rapid Rooters. I tried them once and will never go back to Rockwool. They work equally well in soil and hydro. Ive never seen a germinated seed die in this stuff, ive even had them go a little dry with no ill affects. This stuff is the goods
I also use a 1/4 strength shot of clonex in my water. Im a huge fan of a healthy root system no better time to start than first thing
