New Grower: Excited To Learn

Well good morning to you all. I had a great time yesterday with the family and my brother told me he would be happy to help with the grow room set up he came over and measured everything and made sure the tent will be a good fit for closet and I told him about the exhaust and inside setup and he agreed to help build it with me. so yeah to family and friends weed bringing us together.

Thanks Mr smeegol, pennywise and stltoed. I have been researching how to germinate seeds and WOW, never seen so many people differ on how to do it and say don't do use paper towel don't cause it will hurt the seeds use rockwool don't use germination kit don't need to. So I just wanted to ask you if you have any suggestions for a brand new beginner to use?

Jorge Cervantes recommends you should take a matchbox, glue some course sand paper in it and use it to "scratch" the seeds by placing the seeds in the box and shaking them. This allows easier water entry into the shell and beyond... i havent done this yet, but it makes sense.

Some disinfect the seeds with a weak peroxide solution. This also makes sense and deserves your attention, as some seeds just dont make it for seemingly no reason.

BGHydro.com sells a great germination kit that has dis, growth adders, etc, but it aint cheap.

I soak the seeds for a day. I use a paper towel, but you need to watch to make sure the tap root doesnt grow into the towel. If it does, cut the paper towel and leave it with the root. Dont try to remove it. This is a critical time. Damage to your roots will affect your plants future. You wont be able to remove the tap root without damage.

Dont use rockwool... First of all, they need to be PHed. Which isnt hard, but its just a pain. Ive used Rockwool quite a bit and cant tell you how many perfectly good seeds ive planted just to see them stop growing immediately after germination. Save yourself the headache.

Use Rapid Rooters. I tried them once and will never go back to Rockwool. They work equally well in soil and hydro. Ive never seen a germinated seed die in this stuff, ive even had them go a little dry with no ill affects. This stuff is the goods

I also use a 1/4 strength shot of clonex in my water. Im a huge fan of a healthy root system no better time to start than first thing

Yeah I have read to water and check the Coco coir with my knuckles and see if it's dry or not moist for the top of the geopot then water I will be there every day and night checking in to see if it's dry and ready

Pennywise is your coco guru

Thanks Mr Magoo yeah I'm glad I have some family too help me with the grow tent and set up the ducting and ventilation system

Thanks buckets 420, but I am going to use just straight Coco coir for my grow as being disabled veteran and I am in a wheelchair mixing the soil and transfer pots Is going to be difficult me but thank you for the advice.

This is my first grow so the soil mixture was something I seen other people do. I probably wont be growing auto flowers again because I want more control over the veg state and the flower. I have about another month before the plants I have are done so in the mean time I am researching next potential seeds I will be getting.

Hey bucket420, what are you growing now? Do you have any pics would like to see them. I am going to be growing northern lights for my grow I read up on it and it is a good strain, short plant and resilient and forgiving if you make mistakes which I probably will although I am very detail oriented and can follow strick regimen and the help that I have gotten here is amazing and I thank you for your help and advice.

The smaller of the two plants is the Candy Kush.

Wow I just looked into carbon scrubber and fan and tubing and damn it's not cheap that's for sure but I think it will be worth it to keep the smell covered up and the heat out but I didn't think it was going to be this expensive, going to take this months money for the tent, pH meter and pots next month will be the nuts and then the exhaust system then the light hopefully by Christmas which is my birthday lol guess what I put on my list LoL, I will be up and running until then I will be reading all the Journals I can, and doing a lot of research

Your lights should be your biggest expenditure.
Yes my lights are the most expense piece I have the exhaust system is 4 pieces together comes to close on price too the light LoL. Which is fine with me as I live in an apartment and have to make damn sure I can hide the smell.

I just wish I could be able to purchase the gear and get started growing
