Hiya Smoke - This is my first post, but I've been following your journal since day one as a guest so I almost feel like I know you, LOL. I didn't want to sign up on 420 out of paranoia, but bit the bullet and just did it.

I started my first grow of bag seed roughly the same time you did, and I found your journal shortly after, and have learned more than I ever thought there was to learn, and I'm still a total newbie. When everyone said that someday you'll be helping others, well your journal and the awesome help you have, has been helping me big time! It's almost like every question I have, you have asked and I got my answer. So thanks and nice grow you have going on! Everyone here seems like the coolest people you'd ever want to meet.

I have two lovely flowering girls (and a couple unknowns in veg plus a rooted girl clone) going right now and I'm thinking of starting a journal. I want to share my grow but can't tell anyone I know. Not sure where to start though, being that I'm already flowering when everyone's journal that I've seen seems to start from the beginning.

I've been trying to upload a pic of one of my girls to show you. I went through the whole process of learning how to do it but keep getting a 404 error so it won't go. No idea why other than maybe because I'm using a vpn. I'll try again tomorrow. This site has a really odd way of attaching photos.

To start your own journal,
go to this page: Journals in Progress

back to the page you just left: Journals in Progress
go to the bottom, push : Post New Thread

Please have no worries about what stage you are in .... It sounds like you are doing a perpetual grow (on your first grow!!!) so you will never be just beginning anyway :)

Post back here when you have a journal and I will be pleased to watch your grow, share, and learn.

JimmyJ, Like Radogast says, Start a journal of your own so you have your grow all in one place. To upload a photo(s) here is the steps you need to take.
Thank you and Welcome!:welcome: The way I upload a photo is :
First, make sure the file is a .JPG, Then at the top hit Gallery along the top bar, A drop down window will appear. Select (towards the bottom of the drop down menu) Upload Photo's .

It will take you to a page that towards the bottom it says select files for upload. Hit that selection where it says select files for upload.
That will show you your drives, Choose the file(s) you want to upload. Repeat that step until you have the all the photos you want to upload,

Then at the bottom, it says upload submit, You need to hit that. It will take you to another page where it shows your Photo(s) you have selected.

At the bottom is a button that says Process. Hit Process.

After that, when you want to upload your photo(s), start a post and at the bottom of your post is a box that says My Photo(s). Hit that.
A window will pop up that shows all your pic's you just uploaded, Just click once on each photo(s) you want to put in the post.
It will insert a line of code that shows the photo location. Once you have done all that and entered your text, You should hit post quick reply like you did to send this post.
It sounds complicated, but unless I'm missing something (I'm sure someone will correct me if I skipped a step) it is pretty easy and you should be all set.

One tip, when I was learning to upload pic's, I copied and pasted directions like this into notebook or a wordpad new file and printed it up. Just follow the steps and you should be all set.

Good luck and again :welcome:! Last thing, I don't know what VPN is, but this should work and since you asked for help, I'm sure people will come help. I'm still newish at growing and if I were you I would depend on the people that show up to help you with your grow. BTW, your right about the people here, They are fantastic and VERY knowledgeable.

Hopefully this shows up right as it's my first reply. So I get to the point that you described above, selecting my files for upload. It says it's uploading and I get a progress bar that says "uploading", then the progress status turns to "Upload Error: 404". So I can't even make it far enough to try what you explained below. But your question about the vpn (virtual private network) it's supposed to make you anonymous online. I use Notepad for taking notes and will do as you suggest on uploads once I get far enough that it works for me.

Since you said you have been following this journal, I'm sure you have seen that the website had some glitches that were supposedly worked out, If you can't get farther than you have, I would contact administration thru the top bar where it says 420 Resources and then hit 420 Staff and choose an administrator and explain your problem, They may still be having problems. Good luck and I wish you the best getting the pictures sorted out!

Here she is. I needed a browser upgrade for uploads to work. Can't wait to get the journal started. Will start tomorrow.

Good job getting the photo uploaded! You'll love having a journal, It makes it easy for the people who want to help you have one place to go, to do so as well as making it easy for yourself having all the info right in one place. The people in my journal have been fantastic and I love every one of them!! Like I said, I'm still newish, but when you start your journal, post the address here and I'll join and do what little I'm able to myself to help but since I'm still learning as well as you, I don't have that many answers yet to most questions, but will do whatever I can to help along along with the people here that already said they would help. Radogast and Dennise both have lots of experience with growing and helping people like us to get our grows going and have said they will help you also in previous posts back to yours I believe. They are GREAT as are all the people here helping me. I'm sure you will have people to answer your questions too!

Thanks Smoke! Yes, the people here are great and I mean you too, your questions that have been answered have helped me get to where I am right now. Which isn't as advanced as your setup, but looking forward to you checking out my new journal which will begin tomorrow. And I of course will continue following yours (and I can comment now!) till the end. Very excited to be part of this fine website and your journal. Best to you and Mrs. Smoke.

JimmieJ, I'm looking forward to doing whatever I can to help. The people here are the ones to depend on the most because as you already know, I'm learning something new almost daily thanks to the folks helping me! I want to pay the help I've received forward and will do as much as is my range of knowledge allows me to do so. Can't wait to see your journal, Just don't forget to post the address (URL) of your journal here and ask for help. You won't find a wider range of knowledge than the people helping me!
:thanks:
Smokey

BTW, now that you can post, please feel free to join in as much or as little as you are comfortable with! I love
hearing from people all the time!

Congratulations! :420: has lots to offer!

Great! So here's something I've been wondering for some time. Your plants in the flower tent show up purple in the pics that you post. I know it's from the LEDs, but is that how they really look when you see them in person, or does the camera see it differently than the eye? I can't recall seeing anyone question that. I don't have LEDs yet so just curious. Good night all.

They appear that way mostly on camera, although in person you can see the colors also, just not as much as in the pic's. The biggest difference is in person you see a lot more green than the pics show. That's the only drawback to the LED lights is how they appear in pictures (for me at least) when someone is trying to see the actual shade of green they are. But sometimes I turn on my overhead light in the room and turn off the LED light for a more accurate picture of color. And I hope you have a great night!

Two years on :420: and I feel exactly the same way :)

ooops ... almost 3 years :)

HPS Yellow is the same way.. To my eye, there is very little color difference between HPS and CFL light, to the camera it is like the difference between outdoor and indoor light ... I personally find the LED light hard on the eyes, I need to wear wraparound blue shades or my eyes hurt within 5 minutes. It is a mixture of color and intensity..

Did you ever see the "white and gold dress illusion" online? That is about the difference between your eyes and your camera lens with LED grow lights.

Yes, Ive seen what your talking about with the white and gold illusion. But for me, the LEDS just sort of wash out a lot of the green but I can still see it. The Mars light in the tent looks the best, but the 2 LED light panels in the upper bookcase really wash out the colors for me. I would hate having that hurt my eyes.

I think different people see the LED purple light differently - like the white and gold illusion :)

The light bothers me so much, I have two 100x3W LEDs that have been sitting on a shelf for 18 months since a few months after I got them.

I was looking at a grow by Emilya where she added strong supplemental light for 4 hours during the middle of her flowering day. I am strongly considering building 'saddlebags' to hang at an andgle over my HPS flowering light with an LED panel on each side pointed towards the flowering girls. I don't spend much time in the flowering room, especially not during the middle of the flowering day, so this might be a way to use those dusty lights.

Thanks for spurring me to seriously contemplate action :)

That's a good idea as long as you don't have to spend a lot of time in it hurting your eyes. I'm lucky, They don't hurt my eyes like they do yours! But I also don't have the best eyesight and I have worse hearing loss from being so close to the sirens and air horns in the old days when we still stood on the side of the engine or truck. Ive lost whole areas of sound range because of that. But that's good for you to be able to add light as you need it! But it wasn't me who started the whole light thing, JimmyJ just asked me how the plants look in person in comparison to the pic's.

Sorry JimmyJ, didn't mean to cut you out of the conversation. I mostly posted my idea to try to get my butt in gear and use the lights :)
