My First Time Growing

If there is a bit of membrane left on it, as Bob said...just a small drop of water on there and it will soften it up. It usually will shrink back up and drop off after that or just slide off from the wetness.

YEY! Another baby in the household! :happybday: Amnesia

Yep, another baby! I'm happy it's opening now! :thumb:

No coffee (hate the stuff) just slept real late because of a bad night (up and down all night). I'm starting to feel better now.

Oh, that was for Bob on the coffee comment. :)

Hopefully the rest of your day will gradually get ya feeling better. Maybe another trip outside for fresh air will help later too.
I've got sunshine again here today and pretty warm. I am seriously hoping this means a very early spring, but we've been misled before in this state during last of February. Keeping the fingers crossed for sure.

:circle-of-love:

BTW, I checked the big ones just now, and both appear to be females. I'm 90% sure. They both have a white furry, slightly curved hairlike things coming off the main stalk. Still too small to get a clear pic of, But I'm pretty sure they are females! I don't want to say they are female for certain yet since I can't get a pic for you guys too see and confirm it yet. But it's looking good! A little later I'll try again to get a good pic. So no congrats yet please. I want to be sure and this is the first time I've noticed these ones for sure.

Looking forward to that. Just remember to try to keep thumbs and fingers out of the camera focus area so it doesn't think it's supposed to be focusing on those. :thumb:

We shall be patiently waiting. Don't worry if you can't get a good pic today. There's always tomorrow. :circle-of-love:

I just can't get a pic yet to come out, But I had my son watch the video on sexing the plants and then look at Harley and Casey. He said the same thing I had thought, the hairs are there and there is nothing that looks like a dudes balls . High hopes even getting higher. I'll be fine if I turn out to be wrong, I still want to learn about both so I can recognize the difference.

The problem with the pic's are the hairs just don't show on my camera. I have tried it so many different ways but with the same results. I forgot to thank you Canna, So
Thank you

:circle-of-love: Know what? I'm gonna keep hangin' out here even if you don't thank, so forget all ya like. No worries, you're stuck with me...and several others.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Smoke, in the first picture of the Amnesia you posted on Friday, 2/19, you can see something on the top right side of the sprout that is not green or leafy. That is likely a piece of seed coat or the membrane that lies in between cotyledons (those two oval leaves that are the first to open when the seed germinates normally.

You may not have even noticed it. I didn't when I took a quick look at the picture the first time. Whatever it was there is a good chance that it was keeping the leafs from opening normally. When a seedling comes up well it should look like this right out of the dirt.

Her's a picture of a seeding that hasn't lost it's seed jacket. If it comes up like this then use the drop of water trick the guys were telling you about.

I looked in my gallery and couldn't find a picture of one with the membrane thing but both can keep the plant from opening its first set of leaves properly. What you wanna do when a new seedling sprouts is look at it carefully and make sure that the membrane or seed coat aren't preventing it from opening up.

The lights are not the problem. They're working great! Look at the Truthband.

I was away as you know and there was the water thing, but, yup, these look pretty rectangular. Nice job.

Don't go too nuts on them this first grow. You totally get the concept.

I expect your're right about them being female. Your test score was high and that video Canna posted is great.

I'll post a picture of the one I used for the test so you can see what yours will look like in four days if they're females - in a minute. I need to take a photo.

Here's a closer shot of the shell and membrane before a sprout shed it. You can see how that membrane locks right around those cotyledons, and is actually stuck to the shell for awhile. Just like the lining of a chicken egg after you've boiled and peeled it:

They are opening now nicely, I was just wondering why after 3 days they still were shriveled up. But a few hours after I lifted it up is when they started opening nicely (But it was lower than the truthband because the truthband had grown taller). At first. when I noticed them around 5:00 AM, there was just a ball of leaves on top of a long stalk. Now the 2 outer leaves have opened and there is still a brownish leave that hasn't moved but it's not the shell. I felt it and it's soft. Here is 2 pic's I just took while typing this up:

Sorry the pic isn't better, even with this old camera (that works better than the first one), they are still blurry. I think I'm going to start putting 3-4 dollars away a month to buy a better camera. It will take a while, but at least I'd have one. I also did the drop of water when I was taking the pic to get rid of any membrane that maybe I just don't see.

Thanks!

No worries, Smoke. The seedling will make it. Just watch out next time. If there is a hunk of membrane stuck to one of the young leafs, the leaf under it will rot and get mushy like that. Maybe, it was something else, but those lights are doing great.

You'll start seeing this after a couple of days and it will be 100% confident it's a female.

IMG_111630.JPG

starting to look similar to that now, just not as advanced. I have to go, the wife is pausing a TV show she wants me to see. I'll be back in a little bit.
They are looking more like a flower now and when I stick my nose in one and smell, it definitely smells like weed.

PJ is the dark I am seeing across the seedling where the membrane dried up on it instead of coming off with the shell.. I've never seen that before and am not sure that is what you are saying but if not what is the black I'm seeing in the middle of the seedling... Sorry Smoke... it's not a worry I just want to know what I'm looking at...:circle-of-love:

Thanks, It does have a little furry look on the underside of the one leaf, Is that rot? I'd take a pic. but I'm sure it won't show it. Sorry I had to leave in such a hurry, I just didn't want to upset my wife again (Remember when she thought I was on too much and was so mad? She was standing in my doorway as I was typing the message asking me if I was coming or not?) If it is rot, does that mean the seedling is a washout? or can it go away?

That is the leaf that looks furry on the bottom side. The one that I just asked if it could be rot? The seed did sit like that for three days. I just didn't notice because I'm so used to not looking at them all the time like I used to do at the beginning and was told to have patience and just let them be. I will try a pic, but seriously doubt it will show it.
