My First Time Growing

I too have to live on disability Smoke... My fella got hurt almost a year ago and has worked a total of about 2 weeks since so yepper... I kinda feel ya...:).. and I've been broken since 2004 so we learn to do what we have to do...:high-five:..:circle-of-love:

Disability sucks. I am stuck with the same amount of disability pay I started getting in 1997.

OK I get the feeling I need to go back to my dark corner... I hope you have a blessed and green day Smoke....:circle-of-love:

Dennise, you are always welcome to post here and don't need to go back to your dark corner. I just have a hard time getting it across as to how little I make now sometimes.

Hopefully after the election things will change with that too... I certainly wouldn't be placed in the middle class catagory...:biglaugh::biglaugh: I am very blessed in everything I own is paid for and I have no bills except the monthly can't get away from them bills...:).. I had owned my own business before I got hurt so had enough invested and saved that I was able to sell my big house and buy a beautiful piece of property with a tiny little farm house... so my little piece of heaven is all mine but even with that... your absolutely right... there's not a lot left over for toys....:circle-of-love:

Smokey, Dennise...
I hear you both there. LOL When it gets to the point that you are cleaning out junk drawers searching for change for gas in the car...it forces you to look for the DIY things and stuff around the house to get done what you need. I've been there for sure! Some things work, some didn't....but it didn't cost a dime to try it.

Damn, it's a beautiful day here. I'm heading outside and pretend Spring came overnight!

Smoke, the way those plants are growing if it was 5-7 days between watering in the 3 gallon pots two weeks ago it is probably 3-6 now. They are bigger and drink more. No biggie. The important thing is not to freak out and over water them all the time just because they went limp once. Em is on the same page. Dennise pointed out they are drinking more now. I said the same a few posts back.

They went a little limp from the LST, slight increase in temps, and being at the dry end of the watering cycle. Nothing to sweat. Everything is good. Remain calm.

Here are those pics Canna mentioned. The recovery was over the course of a couple of hours.

Thanks PJ, I will adjust the watering schedule accordingly. With the exception of what happened last night, the 7-8 days were only because the soil was still moist and you drilled it into me not to over water them. But I'm going to try Canna's method also and try a flat piece of a small wooden stick to make sure they are dry before I water them. But since you suggested it, I'm sure that they will turn up dry in 3-6 days. But thanks PJ, you have never steered me wrong!

Of course I'll remain calm, I wasn't panicking last night, I was just curious if anyone knew what had happened. You can see my initial post on pg 62 - message #955. I was just worried, not panicky. It takes a lot more than a problem with a plant to make me actually panic. I just don't want you to think I was freaking out. The post makes that obvious.

The stick should help you get a basic feel for how moist it is in there. It's certainly not the most accurate thing around, it's good in a pinch. But I like it much better than the finger method because you get it deeper to the bottom, as Emilya was talking about. I use it for the plastic pots.

Oh, you said earlier about the roots growing through plastic pots. No, they won't grow through a plastic pot, they grow through the fabric pots. You will see roots grow out the drain holes of plastic pots sometimes though.

I have one of those meters around here, haven't used it since last summer But I've also come to learn to see what the plants want without using it. I bought it to test the ground soil during an outdoor grow. You will see that in time too and things will get into a routine for you.

So glad Peejay posted those pics. When I first saw those, I almost fell over myself. LOL

I don't have a watering schedule, I play chicken with my girls. As close to wilting as possible. In fact, I have a pic that comes in handy. This is from last night, my Critical Kush and is dry about 3 inches down, and possibly farther. Barley any sign of moisture. You can see the leaves just starting to wilt slightly.

I would rather see my plants wilt slightly from underwatering than from over. And PeeJay is right as always, they recover amazingly fast if you miss it slightly.

I comment on the term schedule only because things change with these girls fast, into flower, suddenly nearly full of roots and the water intake can increase suddenly. Try to look at them with the schedule in the back of your mind but look at your girls with open eyes not allowing what you "know" to prevent you from seeing what they are telling you.

That is as zen as I get. Be right back :volcano-smiley:

I also try to come as close to dry as I can, I only mentioned the 7-8 days because that is what they have been running. The whole thing started lst night. I checked the temp in my tent around 7:30 and a little after 9:00 they looked like this:

I am very open to the fact that they can change how much water they need quickly, I was just surprised to see them like that after only about an hour and a half. You can see the original post on pg 62 message #955. It seems that someone thought I was panicking and freaking out, which I wasn't as you can see in the original post, The reason this bothers me is only because I don't want PJ to think I let him down, he has done such a fantastic job of walking me through everything and I just don't want to disappoint him. I was just worried bout the plants partially because it was hours from lights out. I'm pretty sure I just missed watering them at the beginning of the week or they started drinking more quickly like you, PJ and some others said they could do.

Thanks for the pic!
Smokey

I wish I could borrow about 10 degrees of your tent heat. My girls in the basement are in the 60-ish range right now. Brrr.....
Nothing I can do until the outside temps get better here. I have a small heater down there, but it's killing my 'lectric bill. LOL

How is the smell going Smokey? Anything significant when you open the tent?

We totally need an RH and Temp exchange pool. I send you some moisture and heat, you send me cool for purps.

I hope you didn't misunderstand Smokeater from my post. No criticism intended in the least. My point was that it is easy to do what you showed in the pic. Those don't look bad to me really in the big picture. Sounds like you have it pretty close to perfect. How are they looking this beautiful morning?

:Namaste:

When I open the tent I can smell a plant like odor but nothing like I expected (yet), I'm looking forward to them moving forward far enough to smell like weed!

God no! I didn't take it that way at all! I was just explaining what I was worried about. The plants are back to the norm now. Full and vibrant. I am constantly surprised by how fast these plants respond to things. Before I did this, I had no idea about plants other than they normally move slowly. PJ had told me they do this, I just didn't realize how fast it actually could happen!

Your doing great Smokey, when you get a chance check out Cannafan's time lapse videos. Very cool, and yes, they do move slow.

That was very cool to watch! Thank you for posting it (and thank you Canna for making it), I enjoyed that quite a bit seeing how they go through the soil and open their little leaves (I don't remember how to spell codicils for sure yet and I'm sure what I just typed was the wrong spelling/word).
