My First Time Growing

Hey Smoke - when your clones are ready, do you put them straight into your PJ soil? I have two that are ready, one I just planted in PJ soil, the other is still in the cloner just in case this soil is too "hot" for a new clone.

I've been using potting mix, but now I'm battling pests (which probably came with the mix) and the clones that I have aren't growing well.

When I first plant them, I put them into PJ's seedling mix posted below. The biggest thing to remember is to be sure to replace the worm castings and Yum Yum mix if your recycling the soil like I do. When I mix in the old soil, I get as much root out as I can (I figure the rest will be composted into the soil) and add some worm casings and Yum Yum mix, In fact I'm going to post the seedling mix PJ created since it is so good. I hope this helped you out.

PeeJays seedling mix

What you want to do is go ahead and mix some seedling dirt in a separate container. Use 1 gallon of the already mixed soil, 1 gallon of peat, and 6 cups of perlite.

Thanks - too late on the first clone, but I'll definitely add extra peat and perlite to the mix for the second one. I'm kind of recycling the soil from one of my girls who was stunted. I got rid of her before she flowered, so I doubt that she used much of anything for nutes. I'm wondering if pests were part of her problem, so I baked (no pun intended) the used soil at 200F for an hour to kill anything nasty.

Thanks Jimmie, I just don't want to sound like someone who is always complaining about something. My health has been poor for a while, probably started around January (the bad back is much older) and I've only mentioned it when it really knocked the crap out of me. I'll keep checking in and posting about my plants when something happens, Taking pic's is a bit harder because I have to lift them out of the tent and the top of the bookcase because people don't can't see everything in the purplish light, and my son isn't always around to help so I end up doing it when he's at work or out. But thanks Jimmie, That's really good to hear.

I believe I'm the first one to demand pictures --- but now that you grow so much better, they aren't as important to share. Taking care of youself is your number 1 job.

Sharing photos is wasted on me any way, I've been mostly off the forums for 6 weeks or so. :)

I'm not away because I don't care, my friend. I do care. Just taking care of business.

Bless you.

I never meant anyone specifically Rad, and by no means did I mean anyone in particular. I just know how everyone likes pic's and was explaining why it's getting harder for me lately to take them. I'm glad your back and hope your move went well and you love the new house. I thank you for ALL the help you've provided to me since I started. I wish you nothing but greatness in your family, home and grow.

And thank you to EVERYBODY who has helped or supported me. You ALL have provided me with nothing but help, support and other stuff to and you'll NEVER know how much it means to me!:thanks:

Because of all of you I'm getting closer to quitting more of the narcs, but have to wait to see what my Doc says about smoking VS eating regarding the Pre-cancer scare (Thanks again Jimmie for the reminder!). I've been reading about the problem with my esophagus and if treated it only has a 1% chance of it actually turning to cancer and it's being treated with a new med. That's the 2nd worst part after worrying about the big C. I want OFF pharmacologicals. But I'm going to have to take them for my other problems they found, So I'm going to try and whittle back on whatever I can that won't hurt my B/P or heart now that I know the weed helps a lot with the pain and I'm thinking the Indica strains are going to be even better at it. BTW, Now the NYPD and the WW x MK are in flower tent now, so it won't be all that long to find out for sure. Thank God the bean fairy had came and left me the new ones I got a couple months ago. Well, I'm logging off for tonight, But I'll let you guys know what my Doc says tomorrow about smoking Vs eating but since Doc's hate smoking so much, I'm betting she will tell me to go to edibles. If I did the math correctly it will take me more weed per month going edibles and I have to be sure I can grow enough each month to stay stocked up on edibles, I've only had them once when I was in high school but I think I remember it lasting longer with edibles and being more of a body high which I would think would be great for pain.

I think you are going to love that WW x MK Smokey. It was reported to me from a friend as a damn fine smoke, so I tried it as well. I have had to wait months and months before I could try any of my stash, and I am finally over the scare of P tests and can smoke or vape, or edibles. YEY! The WW x MK was great, and really helped with some knee pain from an injury a couple of months ago.
I'm looking forward to your thoughts on it too.

Thanks Canna for the info, I'm looking forward to trying it out. It will be the first Indica to come out and I can't wait to see the difference between the indica and the sativa's on my pain level. I will let you know the first time I try it. I'm trying the last Ketama seed since the first one never took and the 2nd one has been in the solo cup for almost 10 days with nothing yet popping up (still have it under the lights hoping for a while longer), But I think I got the cup too wet on the second one. I'm not sure, but just have a sneaking suspicion I screwed up the 2nd seed. I just put the third one in the paper towels today to grow the tap root after sitting overnight in it's initial container of water and sinking.

Was the Ketama a landrace strain Smokey? Who was the breeder on the packaging? I don't recall at the moment, it seems like it was. By Landrace I mean a pure strain, with no crosses or genetic altering.
I sure hope you get one to work, Landrace strains are getting harder and harder to come by.

They came 3 seeds to a little package which had an individual blister pack for each seed. It's labeled "World of seeds Ketama feminized pure origin". That's all I know about them, Hopefully that tells you something helpful.

BTW, just got back from the Doc and she wants me to use edibles only, So I'm going to have to figure that out. I have seen recipes for Cannabutter but just have to figure out how to make it and hope it goes far enough to make enough of whatever I find to make to last me a month. I'm not a big sweets eater, but can make myself eat a couple/three cookies or whatever a day. I've been getting about 1 and 1/2 oz (average) a month. sometimes more, sometimes a little less. I've noticed the clones haven't produced as much as a plant from the seed does. The Truthband original plant produced I think 1.8 oz, but the Truthband clone that's coming up next for harvest has about half of the original plant.

If you or anyone have any simple ideas that my wife and I can make, I'm open to suggestions. Thanks Canna and don't go out of your way for ideas. If I have to figure something out, I will.

I most definitely don't want to be a pain more than I already am :) (just kiddin'!)

Ahh yes, the pure origin. I still have some in other strains here. Let's keep our fingers crossed on the one planted and the one germing!!

And you DO NOT have to eat sweets to have edibles. You can make infused olive oil and use it in cooking, decarboxylate your weed (this activates the THC, and uses low heat. High heats will kill it basically) and use it in all kinds of cooking. You can add MJ to almost anything you can cook. Believe it or not, I'm working on an MJ cookbook review right now that has tons of recipes from breads to drinks and all things savory...as well as sweets. I made caramel sauce with it today and had it on ice cream. Never thought I could get "baked" eating ice cream. LOL

Go through the edibles threads on the site, I have one in my signature too. It will teach you how to decarb, and how to make infused oils and cannabutter. There are recipes everywhere and they don't have to contain sugar of any kind.

I'll help you out more as you go along, and as I can with this work schedule. PM me if you have questions too.
Just think of MJ as an additional "ingredient" to recipes, substituting it for regular Olive oil..butter...etc. Sprinkle it into recipes when you've decarbed it and you've got a great edibles meal!

That is too cool for school Canna! :woohoo:

No worries Smoke! I dont make any edibles my self but it seems there are a lot of options for edibles.
Rock On!

You should try it Keltic. There are recipes to make Canna Milk, if you buy a jar of Caramel sauce in your grocery store (near the ice cream section) or chocolate sauce, you can warm it up and add a little canna milk in it. You don't have to do a homemade caramel sauce recipe. Stir it up really well and pour it over your ice cream or other treats. It's a whole world of culinary opportunities using this great plant.

That sounds awesome, what time should I be there? :thumb:

5:00 p.m. That gives plenty of time for effects to start and dessert will be later. :)

Oh, forgot to mention one thing on edibles and cooking with cannabis. Because you are ingesting it, it does take longer for the effects to hit you. It's not going straight to you like smoking or vaping it would. It all depends on your own tolerances and such, as to how long it takes edibles to hit you.
Many people don't feel a high right away, so they eat more.....which is how they wind up on the floor until the next day waking up wondering WTH happened. LOL
Start out with small portions, wait a couple hours at least. Could hit you within a half hour, could take a couple hours or more. It all depends on the person. It will be trial and error to discover your body reaction and how quickly.

I could swear I responded to this last night, must have forget to hit the post button. Thanks sis, I will start slowly. Also, Can margarine be used instead of butter (If you know)? My wife asked me that one last night and I didn't know. I want to start out slowly with trying it on a slice of toast (My stomach still isn't great for heavy foods yet) with cinnamon/sugar on it. That way I can slowly eat one piece at a time over time to find out how much I need to control the pain. The body high sounds like it will be perfect for pain control. I can't wait to try this out! :thanks:

Margarine is not usually recommended, it contains too much water in addition to low fat content. Real butter has more fat content and THC sticks to fat, which helps in the simmering process. This is what I remember of it. I've never tried margarine, but if you do use it, try to find one with a high fat content.

Hope that helps!

Just my personal preference here, but I find that margarine's have a bland taste, and when they do have some amount of taste it's because of too much salt. Real butter taste helps to cover the MJ taste in the butter and you can buy it unsalted. You will taste the MJ in your cannabutter, and it will totally depend on how much you used as well as the strain. It's an acquired taste, but the benefits are so incredibly worth it.
