My First Time Growing

Thank you so much, smokey, peejay, and cannafan and all others who have given me help. I sure would have liked to be able to try any strain for pain before I have bought all the stuff to grow. There was just no way for me to get any. I did risk one time, I asked my cousin who is close to me if she would ask her 30 something son if he knew anyone who had any. Or if he would get me some and I pay him back. She came back and said he didn't know anyone, but I kinda think he does he just didn't want me to know about it... anyway, I don't have access to anything until I grow my own. right now my plants are 5 nodes and bushing out very well due to pinching some of the tops off. I read that pinching it some not all the way would produce extra clusters of flowers. my space is limited. I have the 2 boxes and thinking seriously about starting my big box into flowering this week end. could anyone tell me how tall a blue dream strain grows verticle. with plants in a 3 gallon pot it takes up over a foot high and that doesn't leave me but 2 and half feet for it to go verticle. the box is 15 by 15 by 4 feet high. I have to look up the lights I have. Ill be right back
 
the big box is 40 inches 15 by 15 with 300 watt LED lights small box is 30 inches by 15 by 15 inches. with 125 watt standard LED grow light. I have the CO2 bottles with the tablets that came with it, that I change out every week. the small box isn't growing nowhere near what the big box is doing. like a dummy ever since I got them last week I had placed plants on bottom and left them that way. this past Monday I read someone talk about the light s need to be closer to plants so I raised them up on boxes 18 inches from lights and I cannot believe how much they have grown just since Monday. I promise you they have grown over an inch both height and width. I was in awe at their response to the lights closer to them. I would probably be half way thru flowering if I had done things right, from the beginning. I sure wouldn't know to come this far without this site that's for sure. Neither my hubby nor I are very well versed in the world of computers, but I will try to get hubby to help me post pics. 4 plants in one 3 gallon pot I know is the worst thing I can do but I don't have anywhere else to put them. like a dummy I miscalculated the germination stage and ended up germinating all 7 seeds. they are all doing well and I'm afraid I am going to end up losing some of the product because already in the big box they have grown so much. I am going to continue to read and maybe I can use the greenhouse after all for a couple of the plants ,,it just gets so hot during the day. oh well, I be checking back later..Please know all help is very appreciated. youll never know how nuch...I have been at the mercy of pain management drs since my first spine implant 2002 and the second implant in the cervicle (neck) in 2003. I just want some peace from pain and depression and not being able to sleep. even though I got to the pain dr they have never prescribed anything to take pain completely away. they have made it tolerable maybe 50% of the time. I know this might sound strange, but for the first time in my life just a couple of yrs ago I finally got it what RIP means.... does that sound stupid. I hope not, anyway. thanks again to everyone for all the help.

What is the make and model of the grow boxes, dutchess? It sounds like they're something that was bought as a complete package?

Until you can get pictures figured out a way to look at the boxes you're dealing with would be very helpful.
 
Hi Dutchess, you're in the right place for help on Smoke's journal and I wish you the best. It's funny you mentioned that you didn't know what RIP meant for the longest time - I was the same way. I always thought it was an insult to the dead till I learned what it meant. Anyway, I can't offer you any growing advice except this: tell no one you're growing. :thumb:
 
Hi PeeJay, yes, the boxes I bought off ebay. The seller had several sizes, so I bought the smaller one first. But when the first seeds didn't germinate like I thought they were suppose to I ended up germinating all 7 seeds. I was in need of another box. So I went back on line and bought their bigger box that has the higher wattage bulbs. I don't know lumens from a peach so I knew they knew more than me. In the beginning , originally, I bought a greenhouse thinking (after all I had researched was the way to go), I could grow all the plants in there, but like I said, in another post, being early in the spring, I found out that at night was too cold and during the day it was too hot. even with fans and a heater. I then went on ebay and found the boxes that were self contained and had everything needed from seed to harvest. I am assuming the boxes I bought were home made but hubby said they were put together better than he could have done. the boxes have a exhaust fan and an intake fan, with an electric timer. After reading somewhere that the plants needed co2 I asked the seller and they sent me the co2 generater with tablets, that expels co2, in the chamber. I am left with asking questions and figuring this out by myself. Hubby is mad when I asked him to help me put pics on here so you guys could help me. He says I am going to end up in deep you know what for communicating on a website. I hope and pray that isn't the case. I am so sorry if I sound quacko, my meds are not working and I am just desperate to get this going and find some relief in my life. again, much appreciation for your help.
 
Hi Jimmie, funny you should say that,,,, hubby is so mad at me because I told yall. even after I told him how many peeps are on here and how I have learned so much in such a short time. He's afraid I have already told too many.
 
Hi Smokey, the co2 thingy is just a bottle with a cap that has airholes in the top and a co2 tablet goes in once a week and I am asumming the tablet as it melts releases the co2 thru the little holes in the top. everywhere I researched the co2 thing was mentioned that the plants needed it to grow. could someone tell me if that is true or not. Thank you so much.
 
I've read about co2 and from what I gather it's the icing on the cake. If everything else in your grow is perfect, then it's an enhancement. Otherwise, you're limited by the weakest point of your grow and adding extra co2 isn't worth it. In my case, the weakest point would be lighting. Someone please correct me if I got that wrong. :thumb:
 
dutchess, if you have good ventilation, and fresh air from outside coming in, you won't need co2, as it is in our air. Many times when growing indoors, people don't have enough fresh air, so they use co2.

Hi Jimmie, thanks for your post. the boxes I bought are not air tight ( I don't think) but they sure could be. no light what-so-ever comes thru the doors and there r locks on doors if I needed them. so I guess I got the co2 to be on the safe side. This am, I checked on my girls hee,hee,,,,, I'm getting the lingo down.......and I found water or condensation on some of the under leaves. they have grown so much they are leaning on each other. for fear of mold, hubby suggested we enclose a spot under his tool shelf, to add lights and fans to seperate the plants I have jammed into the box. so he went out to lowes and bought some kind of mylar covered foam board, and pressed board to enclose the area. I need to add lights, fans and a timer and hopefully I can see these girls to full harvest. boy, I cant wait. I told hubby we could buy the sheets of mylar for half the cost but he said I don't ask you how to do your hair so don't tell me how to build you a grow space. I just couldn't believe he would share his mans cave tool area with me. he's not mad at me anymore because with-in minutes, of telling him my concerns with mold and how beautiful my girls were,,,,,,, he was off to Lowes....... He still says I would be a fool to put anymore of myself on the site. I don't have a camera, and my phone doesn't have all the fancy things on it. my phone is kind old but it does all I have needed to do. I know it sounds like we r living in a cave and sometimes I really feel older than I am because of all the technology, I don't have a clue about. And really at this stage of my life I don't even desire to learn. But again,,I cannot tell everyone here how much your help is appreciated. Hubby is pretty cool to help me with my quest, letting me max out his c card to get the help I need to survive hopefully getting off all the pain drugs I hav been on for so many years. Thank you so much cannafan and smokey, I have 7 plants all together, 4 of which is in the box and now growing all over each other. hubby Is building a spot under his tool cabinet to help veg and flower the girls. I surely didn't expect to have 7 healthy beautiful plants at one time. Big mistake on my part , but now that I know they all don't have to flower out at the same time, I can start a rigimen to have future harvest and not lose any of these plants. I wish there were other words to say it,,,but again Thank you, hopefully u don't get tired of the thank yous because I have a million of them to all here.
 
The plants I have growing are cbd blue dream. the company I bought them from said they would be good for the pain and help me sleep at night. then last week I got some seeds that are white cookies. I don't know anything about this plant or the strains and if anyone knows about the 2 I have mentioned here, please tell me about them.... also, what r different strains I could get to help with pain, loss of sleep depression, etc. I want to try different types to see just what works for me to help me get off meds that I know are killing me and destroying my internal organs, if tey haven't already. another thing Smoky, I saw that u too go to dr every so often, well I go every three months for subscritions and have done so since 2006. I too have a urine test everytime I go. Do they test for cannabis. I know they check for cocain and such but I don't do any of that stuff. I stopped drinking any alcohol after my first spine implant in 2002 because of the effects with the pain drugs.. well, maybe once a month when we go out to eat I might have 1 cocktail, and some baileys irish crème in my coffee once in a while. I have to see my Pain Doc every 30 days for my schedule 2 narcotics (the heavy ones) and he does a monthly urine test on me and it includes marijuana in the test (My Doc knows I smoke when it's bad and has no problem with it, in fact he's the one helping me get my Medical Marijuana Card). But I'm confused, Testing is supposed to be done by all pain doctors that do provide the heavy duty narcotics like I have to take. It proves their patients are using the meds prescribed to them and not just selling them. You see a pain Doc that doesn't test you monthly? Maybe I just missed something in a post.

As far as how much advice can be given with out a camera, I have no idea. I just know, that was the first thing I had to round up when I was rolling on my journal (I'm not saying to buy or not to buy a camera, I just know what these guys need to help you). If you do ever finding yourself needing a hand uploading pic's, let me know and I'll post the directions for you. But that's up to who ever is helping you. I'm a newbie still (For all intents and purposes, I just started in January for the first time ever and last month was the first time I even harvested a plant yet) and will help with what I can, but as far as your grow itself goes, your out of my range, I only have a few plants too and am only growing to stop taking narc's as well, (not to mention to mention your equipment that I know NOTHING about. I'm very new to all this but will help with what I can. Right now, my first recommendation is to either start saving money or buy a camera that can be plugged into your computer because these guys run on pics like fuel, You won't find a thread out there (I don't imagine) with out people swapping pic's for advice (at least I haven't seen one). Sometime they need to see the color of the leaves. I may not be much help as far as your grow goes, But I do understand what make these wonderful people so wonderful! They know what they are doing! But they need an eyes on assessment of the plants. Sorry, I don't want to sound like a broken record, but I just know what these guys need to help them help you.
 
Just an update, Nothing new here, still sore back-wise or I'd post more pic's of my girls. Having a hard time even getting up today, just a bad day is all. But I just wanted to keep everyone up to date. OH BTW, I have the 2 Blue Mystics seeds germinating. Will let you know about them as soon as I know.
 
Thanks smokeater, I was under the care of the sugeon who put implants (2 of them) in my spine 2002, and 2003. when he went into R and D that's research and development he left me high and dry. I finally found a pain specialist here in my home town and for the first 5 yrs or so I had to go every month. when they found a med that would work and not have so many side effects they started me coming in every 3 months for a prescription refil and over all check-up to make sure the meds were working. but I still every time I go I have the urine test done. had to sign a contract with them when I started back in 2006. I was greatly relieved when they started me coming every 3 mons instead of every month.. but thru them I have had so many injections and tried everything in their assortment of hard drugs and when just this past September (my 65th) birthday, I went on medicare and the supplemental insurance will not cover my meds. from the pills to the pain patches I have been using for so many yrs now I can't afford every month. Everything I used to use cost me under $100 and now is over $600 a month...who on SS can afford that? I will be caressing my hubby to buy camera soon. I hope. he is very leary me putting my stuff out on the net. thanks for your input.

Smokey, what do you think about the size of these grow boxes? We were talking spaces and lights a few pages back. If you have four plants in your flower tent (48"x24") each plant has 288 square inches of footprint space. In a 15" x 15" space there is only a 225 square inch footprint. One Casey?

Dutchess, the likelihood that a law enforcement agency would devote valuable resources to busting an older disabled individual trying to grow a couple of pot plants in an effort to see if they make a viable medication alternative are pretty slim. There are bigger and badder fish to fry.

What you need to contemplate is how law enforcement might end up in your home for something totally unrelated to a couple of plants.

Smoke has done that. He's a good man. He recognizes that there is always a potential for medical related 911 calls to his home. He's had eyes on the ground in those situations... Smokey has considerable public safety experience.

It would cost a ton of investigation money to track you down from internet forum posts (hosted on a Canadian server on this forum; international subpoenas, etc.)

You're just not worth the effort, Dutchess. Your concerns should be "Barney Fife" stumbling across your medical grow attempt not someone trying to track down your humble attempt to see if a seemingly effective medication may help you from posts made on a medical marijuana forum.

It sounds like you and Mr. Dutch are having a playful time with your clandestine efforts... *giggle*
 
Thanks PeeJay, you know I was laying in bed the other nite wondering what would I do if we had a 911 emergency. we have had them before. everything is in garage behind closed doors so other than smell or a search warrant I don't see a problem,,,at least I pray no problems. Mr Dutch yesterday built a space about 4 ft long 18 or 19 inches deep and 29 inches high. yesterday I transplanted the 3 out of the 4plants in one pot, to their own final pot. they are under the tool table. and I started one plant in each of the stand up boxes and started the 12/12 cycle this morning. they bothe have 5 nodes and are bushey and healthy from what I can tell. I ordered lights yesterday to go in the top of my new long cabinet, and the rest of the plants there have a shop light on them and small fans running. So I am starting 2 plants into the flowering zone. I cant wait to see when they sprout buds for flowers. can I mix the 3 top nutients I got from the foxfarm peeps to give the 2 plants they are big grow, big bloom and tiger bloom. I mixed half of the recommended dosage to begin. and I think I am supposed to only feed once a week. I am so excited. the lights I bought are 300 watt LED, like what is in my big box. the smaller box has 150 LED and there is a hugh difference in them. my plants tripled in size from Monday of this week to yesterday in the big box, unforunatly only one plant fits in each box. So I guess Ill have 7 plants at all different stges. 3 of which is still in the seedling container. darn I wish I had a camera. I am going to buy one with my next ss check. hubby will have to deal with it. yall have brought me to this point , without yall I wouldn't be anywhere. I read a journal of tarheels and he said he put plants in flowering stage at 5 nodes so being impatient as I am I am trying the same thing........quick question, anyone...........at the nodes on the plants in the now flowering cycle, there are bushey leaves coming out of the corners of the nodes I am assuming they will bud there. should I do more research and try to tie them down so the light can get to them better and grow more buds. each node has 2 sets of leaves coming out. growing like the top of the plant. I appreciate and welcome any and all responses. thank you so much my new found friends. I am growing not only for myself but my cousin who is in dire straits medically speaking too...she suffers like myself with pain, depression and loss of sleep . she is 4 yrs younger than me and we have always been close. shes had surgeries many on her colon and sometimes I think she is worst than me.....I will check back later. thanks again everyone.
