My First Time Growing

I think you're pretty good, Smoke. The DCSSH is fairly good size. Can you see how the additional topping has turned it into a bushier plant with more tops? You should top that clone next to it and work on making it bushier since it seems to want to go straight up.

Show us Casey's flowers again sometime soon. DCSSH may be a little smaller than you'd like but has a bit more time to veg until Casey gets harvested.

Your timing is not far off. If Harley and Casey had been faster strains you would have been a little behind on vegging but they aren't so it's worked out well.

That Mars 300 and the two big CFLs may be overkill for lighting that little veg space. Leaving the space open is a good idea. Watch the heat in there!

I don't remember how long after Harley and Casey that Minnie went into flower... Anyway, DCSSH can go into flower when Casey is harvested - even if it was harvested today. Then, you need to have a clone ready for when Minnie gets harvested in a couple of weeks. Seems like that won't be a problem.

Dutchess, for your nutrients a good rule of thumb is to start feeding your plants the Grow Big when they are ~ 3-4 weeks old at 1/2 the amount recommended on the label every other watering and increase the amount gradually as the plant gets bigger. It's hard to say if they are big enough to start that on now without seeing some pictures but that is the best advice I can offer based on the info available.

Part of it depends on what kind of dirt they are in. Some bagged soils have a lot of fertilizer in them already and if you start feeding the plants too soon it will hurt them. What kind of dirt are you growing in?

Hi PeeJay, I started the seedlings out in miracle grow moisture control. Thinking this would be ok since I was intending to grow in greenhouse outside.. with our cold temps at nite and high temps during day it was a horrible job of keeping them fom getting too much of either. as bad as I felt I had to walk out back so many times a day and hubby took pitty on me and bought me the growboxes.... they r 6 0r 7 inches high with 5 nodes. I pinched some off the top last nite and raise them up on a box just 18 inches from lites and oh wow,,they have grown an inch just since last nite. Fox farm dirt came in and I mixed 30% permalite with the dirt and transplanted them just 2 days ago. all 4 in one 3 gallon pot. the plants were grown on the miracle grow and when I transplanted them the solo cups were full of the roots coming out the bottom, and I just sat down the whole thing from the solo cups into the foxfarm and perlite mix. thanks for the advise on nutriments. I watered just yesterday so it will be a while before I water again. I saw a post from Emily (I think) where she told smokey to use wooden skewers to check for water line and I did that this am, just to see if it works and I think it does for sure. Thanks Emily.,,,,,,,,,,I will wait until I hear from you again before I take notes on using nutrients. with the space I have do you think I can go into flowering soon.? I read that when in flower the plants almost double in size. thank you so much for your help.

Smokey, I don't mean to highjack your site but I am so thankful for you inviting me here. I was so impressed with the help you were getting from such smart wise and considerate people. I hav been feeding off tis site so I wouldn't ruin the seeds I bought. money here is at a premimum too. if hubby didn't work a partime job there would be no way to afford the things I have bought here. hoping to use the money invested here to grow my own medicine is a scarry leap for sure and paying back the credit cards is not something hubby wanted to do. however, I intend to see this through and hopefully I will learn enough to grow my own from now on. atleast as long s I physically can. that's the plan. thank you to everyone here. I am not to savvy when it comes to computers, or I would send photos.

Thanks Smokey, and everyone, Unforunately I live in one of those states that classify cannabis as a schedule 1 drug. A drug that can send you away for a long time...I am scared somewhat but have taken an attitude since my usual meds plus the pain patches is now over $600 . I have been up and down on a roller coaster because after my insurance since some 7 mos ago will not cover my meds, the meds I can afford is not working and my body has been going thru withdrawal for at least that long. I am so angry ,,who can afford that kind of money every month,,not me..anywho, I decided to grow my own and see if it will help....I feel I have no choice but to try on my own, this plant that I have researched for many months.. I bought seeds and received them 1st week of April. germination was good, but for 2 to 3 weeks they stretched because I didn't have anywhere to put them to get light.....then hubby bought me a greenhouse. they went in there and every night I had to put the heater on them as it got down to 40 degrees most nites and then somedys they got too hot and temps around 100 degrees even with fans on... So hubby bought me a grow cabinet and I have been following everyone on this site to know what to do next. my boxes are 3 feet and 4 feet. he got me 2 because like an idiot I after some miscalulations ended up germinating all seven seeds....... they all had 5 nodes and last night I pinches some of the top of all of them and raised them to about 18 inches from the lights and they have taken off, just since last nite. I wished I had thought to raise them earlier to be closer to the lights....anyway this am I checked and they r fine I think. I put 4 of the plants in a 3 gallon pot . don't know what Ill end up with but didn't want to throw one away..... I do have a question tho, is now a good time to start nutrients. I bought the line from Farm fox and got 3 separate kinds. could someone tell me what dosage I should start them on and when would be a good time to start to flower them since they r in a limited space. hubby at 70 still works partime so he got me what I needed to strat this venture. He has been with me for 30 yrs next month June 14 will be 30 yr anniversary....he has been with me thru this whole miserable painful life of mine, due to back degeneration.. Thanks for any help from anyone. Glad I found this site for sure. everything I have done till now has been with the learning from all the nice people here..thanks again

We understand Dutchess, In all states (I think) it's still a Federal Schedule 1 narcotic. Which means it had no therapeutic or medicinal value according to them, The way the other states have squeezed by was by basically making it a state recognized schedule 2 drug that requires a license at state level, but federal charges can be brought against us at any time from the way I understand it) and all of us that I know of run the same risk. It's stupid, uneducated and marijuana has huge medicinal value (God forbid it was drinkable, then it probably would be legal). Help yourself to asking questions and speaking up all you want here on my journal, But I really do recommend a journal, You can title it anything, Like I titled mine "My first time growing ever" and changed it later to "My First Time Growing" once I was doing it. So you can keep all your information with just more of the info that you've been taught all in the same place. But feel free to hang out here as well, Your always welcome. And remember, Keep your grow hush hush, or you'll end up with problems with the police and a little caution now can prevent those problems later.

I totally understand the money thing, If I hadn't found a miracle (anonymous) in the beginning, I wouldn't be growing like I am. I make very little on disability and with our bills, even saving can be difficult, so I'm sympathetic with your plight. The one thing I was warned about and never took serious enough, growing can get expensive. Grow tents, Grow lights, Supplies, electricity (strong lights on 18 hours a day until you have to have another grow place with another light running on a 12 hour cycle). I was warned and told how expensive it can be and didn't take it to heart like I should have, because I have been a burden on some people and refuse to do that anymore. The first thing your going to need though is a camera that you can hook to your PC so you can U/L pictures (here or your own journal). That's one of the ways you can help them help you, Showing them actual pictures to look at to see any problems as well as growing conditions (Not to mention how easy it would be for a police officer were to log in and pretend to be a grower to try and get someones info). With out pic's, I don't know how much help you can get that will be practical. Good Luck Dutchess, I understand your predicament, I started growing because I want OFF all the narcotics I've been on since I got hurt at work and will be replacing the narcs with weed officially once I have my MMJ card saved up for. The biggest thing you need to be sure of is that it will help you. I had access to a very small amount before I had my grow and knew it would help and after my first harvest, I found out how much it helped, I was even able to cut my narcs to taking less than half of my prescribed dosage, just enough to keep the physical dependence under control until I can quit them completely. I have since quit weed temporarily for a possible drug test in the future at a different doc, before I have my MMJ (Medical Marijuana) card. I wish you the best Dutchess, It sounds rough, But get your self a camera as soon as you can and the people here will work wonders. Until then, just remember, there are NO dumb questions (I thought I had found a few, but they had real answers to real problems when I asked) and ask away. I am a mostly newb still and if I don't have an answer for you, someone will. Feel free to ask away and think about starting a journal. I can go back 166 days and know they are all about my grow. I can search it if need be or whatever because it's all about my grow and how growing works. Until you have a camera, Tell us what your growing (you said you bought the seeds, what strains?), what type of light are you using, tell us everything and hopefully someone will have an idea to improve it for you or see a problem with something. I wish you the best of luck and look forward to hearing from you again. As far as your question, I'm glad PJ took that one, I have no clue about nutes.

I forgot to mention, when it comes to flowering, Your plants will need to be moved to another location (or do them all at the same time where they are). Flowering in MJ is when the weed grows the flowers and buds that we need for pain management. It is usually done in 2 separate locations, so you can keep plants vegging while your others flower (they are changed from veg to flower by changing the light timing they are under).

Vegging is done (usually) when the lights are on 18 hours and off 6. They automatically go into flower after a certain age I'm sure but mostly when the lights are switched to 12 on 12 off and then take a couple months in flower after a month or 2 in veg depending on how fast the plant grows.

PJ, I topped the clone and later today will post a new pic of Casey. I have tentatively removed the Mars 300 to see if they grow better just with the CFL's. I can put it in the tent as on the right side, I have a spot not covered real well by the light in the tent but could string up the Mars 300 to add room for one more plant inside the tent.

I thought the DCSSH was a little small, it only sprouted on 3/16/16, but yeah, I guess that sounds right time wise. I've read on other threads about people who veg bi-monthly to 90 days to have a perpetual and the DCSSH is almost 2 months old. So what ever you say my friend, I am willing to grow any way you say, you haven't steered me wrong yet!

BTW, Harley and Casey went into flower (light timing was changed) 2/16/16. And Minnie and Jordan (the ex-male that got burned) went in on 3/9/16. and the Truthband was put in the tent on 4/20/16 and the Amnesia was put in 4/29/16 and that's all 4 in the tent now. Thanks for all the help dude! And that's for everyone out there that's helped me too! I don't want to list off all the names, (would take too long and I probably couldn't remember every one) but mean it to everyone helping. You "guys" are the best!!

Your very welcome Dutchess, We are all (again, I'm certain I speak for most members) here to help you if possible. I can totally understand the situation you are in and am willing to help any way I can. We're here if you need anything explained to you!

Dutchess, as far as the water level checking stick, much better is called the soil master at Home Depot for $6.00 (that's all!). Here are a couple pics to see it:

IMG_20100120_000822.jpg

For something so cheap that doesn't even require batteries, this is the way to go. It's called the Soil master. Watering MJ is very important (or so I've been told :) ), you need to let the plant become almost dry before you water it regularly. This lets the roots grow and will help with the yield at the end from my understanding (remember, I'm still a newb). Emilya and Canna use the stick (as far as I know they still do) but this was pointed out to me to make it easier and faster. And for $5.00 or $6.00 you can't beat it. It's part of my daily ritual now since they are all on different watering schedules. Every morning I just check their moisture on each plant and know right away if it needs water or not. Not that I could add anything to PJ's advice, but just wanted to show you this, since I had to take a couple pic's of one of my plants for PJ anyways.

Sorry about pic quality, I'm saving to get another good camera. But this is all I have today. Thanks dude!

Great info to Dutchess Smokey!

One thing, the plants that go automatically into flower are Auto flowering strains. They will flower on their internal schedule no matter what the light timing is. You can't keep them in veg stage like you can a regular plant. Photoperiod strains (regular plants) can stay in veg stage as long as you want and won't flower as long as the light schedule is kept around 18/6. When you finally switch to 12/12 they will begin the flowering process.

You will see some miscellaneous pistils in long veg times, but they won't go into full flower under that light 18/6 schedule. This is how some growers keep mother plants of their favorites, they just continue to take clones off the one in veg stage.

Hope that helps. :)

Thanks Canna, I forgot about auto's. Oops, Hope you picked this up Dutchess. I will probably remember auto's better after I grow one, one of these days. Sorry I forgot that, Giving advice is still new to me for this subject.

At long last the pistils are pulling back on Casey!

Here's a picture from the 7th.

And here is yesterday.

You should harvest Casey in 5 days to a week. That gives DCSSH a few more days to get bigger.

After that it will be 3-4 weeks until another plant will need to move into flower (assuming that Minnie will also take 14 weeks.)

The Truthband is supposed to be a 10-11 week strain and the and Amnesia 9-10 so they should get harvested at roughly the same time two weeks after Minnie.

If you're going to pop beans you should think about doing something on the indica/ daytime side of things since all of the first five plants are sativa dominant.

See? Your perpetual is doing just fine.

Sounds like a plan to me! Minnie went into flower with in days of putting her in the tent (just so you know, she is curling up her pistols already. I was just looking at Minnie and thinking she's another strain because she's taller and much quicker. I'll post a newer pic of her later if I can get a halfway decent one.

Thanks Dude for the help again, I just don't know my strains of weed.

Per the websites, Aurora Indica is usually an 'in the couch' heavy stone indica with an occasional balanced phenotype.
Typically a low grower with a high yield and all the potency you want out of an indica .

Most of the seeds on this list look like balanced indica/sativa.

Aurora Indica seems like a top candidate to me :)

Blue Mystic is listed as mostly Indica with a Stoney effect and a low grower as well. Just throwing that one in there too. :)

Blue Mystic is listed as mostly Indica with a Stoney effect and a low grower as well. Just throwing that one in there too. :)

I had looked Nirvana Blue Mystic up on seedfinder and it had listed a single, sativa-like phenotype - so I assumed that was how they bred.
I just skimmed the comments on the Nirvana site and found 1 where they have a tall, sativa-like phenotype but most of the growers reported a blue, low, indica-type plant.

My faith in seedfinder as an information source is slipping.

Thanks for catching that and correcting me.

No correction intended my friend. There were different reports online, I had to dig a bit myself. LOL
I'm pretty sure I ordered some of that strain myself from Nirvana on my last seed order because I counted on it being Indica dominant. I sure hope that's correct! ;-)

:circle-of-love:

Aurora Indica would be my choice for a true indica. It's been around for a while and I've seen it grown a bunch. Well known strain for pain and sleep.

Sounds great, I'll pop 2 seeds as soon as I can. Thanks to all you guys for the discussion on which is the best. I really appreciate it!
