My First Time Growing

PeeJay, what do you mean when you said pistils are pulling back? thanks very much

Dutchess, Just so you know, PJ was talking to me in that post about the buds of one of my plants that is almost ready for harvest. Also, Until someone tells you different, personally I would keep the lights at 18 on and 6 off (A timer makes this the easiest way to do it) because putting them in 12 on 12 off sends them right into flower assuming they are old enough or big enough and not an Auto seed (automatically grows and flowers regardless of light schedule, never grew one myself yet, but I hear they don't produce a lot in the way of buds). Buds are where the medicine is at on these plants. Hopefully that explained what PJ was referring to. He was just responding back to me about something.

thanks smokeater, with everything Ive read, the plants double in size when they go into flower stage. I have a limited area to grow so I thought I would send 2 of the plants into the flowering stage and see what I get. just doing things on my own I have gotten a few tips on how to double the flowers and one of them was to pinch the tops off or partially off to produce more buds. That's what I did to them . Now the plants have multiple sets of leaves coming off each node, making them bushy so I was wondering if I could or should try to tie them down...theres a word for this I just cant remember, tie them down to side of planter so all the leaves at the nodes can get equal light to produce more buds. maybe Ill just hang back for a while until I get a camera. Thanks again.

PJ, I'm still under the weather (Just having some bad days this last week and now), but I had my helper give me a hand and take 1 pic of Casey while I had the chance to have him help me. I'm in no hurry to harvest, but here is a pic of the buds that was taken today: There are a lot of buds on Casey! :)

Yeah there are, Smoke! Buds-o-plenty. :high-five:

The pistils are the white hairs you see growing out of buds, Dutchess. As the flowers mature the white hairs turn brown or red and sort of shrivel up and "pull back." So long as your buds are making pistils the plant is still growing and not ready for harvest. The pistils pulling back is a sign that the plant is about ready to harvest.

Without seeing a photo of the actual plants in the space it's hard to say if now is a good time to change your light schedule. Yes they will double in height more or less after the light schedule changes. Those boxes are pretty small. I don't think Casey would fit in one of 'em so your plants can't be very big when they go into flower.

Thank you vey much Peejay for explaining what the pistils are. my space is not big, but just now I looked at the 2 plants in boxes on timers and in between the first set of nodes there are sets of leaves growing out of there, with stems of their own,,,so I figured I am in such a hurry that I should not start the flowering process...so I got hubby to put back to 18/6. I couldn't relate other older plants with mine until just a few minutes ago and I think I get it when I looked up your grow with the "grog" if that right is the right term, with the tomatoe cage wire thingy...I used the same things in my garden to hold up my tomatoes. I will go back to lurking for now but just to let you know I am not flowering them yet. I finally see where this could go so Ill wait a little longer.

I love it! Impressive looking buds, Smoke! :thumb:

I never liked those "good n plenty" things at the movie theaters much, but I could sure go for some "buds a plenty" to take to the movies with me! Awesome Smokey!

:woohoo:

Thanks Sis, I'm looking forward to the amount of bud it looks like Casey will provide when I harvest her! :)

Just so you all know, I have tried once already today to get new pics of the girls, but physically couldn't do it right away. I will try again later or just have to wait. I know it's no emergency, but I just feel bad, having not been on a lot lately because of my problems. But I'll do what I can to get some pic's for you guy's.

PJ, Sorry I've been scarce In the last week, I'm just having a bad week and am unable to do a lot physically. Anyways, I was able to get one (kind of crappy no matter how any I took) pic of a bud on Casey (and this pic is through a magnifying lens). I was just wondering if I should ask you or just do it since you said on 5/12 I should wait 5 days to a week to harvest her, But I'd rather be positive and show you how she looks and see what you think.

If you think it's time, It would give me something to do while I'm lying back and healing up. But I want the buds at their best, so if you think I should let it go longer, that's O.K. too! I'll check back later when I can. Thank you!

:jawdropper:.......

That's some crazy weed you have going there, Smoke. It looks like you can let it go for a bit more....

Have you been reading around the forum?

Nobody is really saying much about that plant...

It's very cool. Not sure you understand how unique that plant is....

I've been reading some of the threads I'm subscribed to, but not for the last couple days. I haven't heard anything about Casey. Is it just her taking so much time in flower that makes her stand out? I don't know how unique she is.

Oh. I meant have you been looking at lots of plant pictures. Wouldn't really expect for folks to talk about Casey in other journals. Nobody is saying much here...

Yeah, it has been in flower for like 15 weeks and is still all pistily. There are very few sugar leaves. Pretty cool.

Busy busy. All I can say is, those are some fat azzed buds and I would love to have those in every grow!!! Green with envy.

Per the websites, Aurora Indica is usually an 'in the couch' heavy stone indica with an occasional balanced phenotype.
Typically a low grower with a high yield and all the potency you want out of an indica .

Most of the seeds on this list look like balanced indica/sativa.

Aurora Indica seems like a top candidate to me :)

Hey Rad, ya with the AI...ya may as well just get Maple Leaf Indica, they are very similar but MLI is , well...better. Anyhow , just my 2 gang. cheers !:volcano-smiley:
Smokey, success...good to see, you must feel good about where things are at. Good job .

Hey guys, Just a quick update. My wife has been trying to talk me in o going to the hospital because my injury is still giving me a lot of problems, But I see my Doc on Fri and will just talk to him about it. Back to more interesting stuff, My 2 babies still haven't shown themselves yet and have been in soil now since 5/13 (Not that I think there is a problem with that time frame, but it made me think about the previous seeds I've tried germinating). I germinated them the exact way PJ told me too, I put them in a small dark cup of room temp water (Inside a closed closet), waited a couple hours, checked to make sure they sank (They had), I left them overnight and planted them in the morning (individual small cups for each seed). Any ideas? Right now, I'm running lower than 50% on my success rate at germinating seeds (just over the last 1-2 months). I have tried leaving them in the water until the tap root is growing and then plant them and I've tried the paper towels, But regardless, I can grow the plant, but alas, my thumb isn't very green when it comes to germinating seeds. Just something for you guys to ponder until I'm back to myself and participating normally on :420:,If anyone has a surefire way of germinating (If it exists) seeds, could you let me know please? It may be a week or so (don't know until I ask Doc) until I'm back to participating in my page and the pages I check in on. I would have included pic's, but I can hardly get out of my chair right now (It's fine, I'm used to it, just slows me way down) of all the girls, but will work on them as I'm able. Thanks all!
