My First Time: AK47 & Gold Bar Kush

I expected we would hit a point where this wouldn't be enough light. I've kept those lights there because they don't use much power and expected the trigger to add light might be either slowed growth or choosing to go to flower. They have been 12" to 15" above the plants for weeks but the plants were much smaller. There are several choices I have for adding light. I can add more cobs in multiples of one or three or four (either the new ones or additional flood lights). I can also hang one of the mars lights that Sue sent me. I repaired the small one last weekend. I'm not satisfied with the four replacement leds but it can be used.

The clone is shaded some by the other plants. I'll move her up higher.

I hope she isn't an auto. She was supposed to be a fem photo. She is right at 8 weeks old today.

I think I'll go ahead and lower the lights and wait for recommendations on lighting changes.

I couldn't help myself. After lowering the flood lights I decided to temporarily hang the first new set of four cobs to see how much they heat up without the fans running. They are way brighter than the flood lights and make the areas under the flood lights look dark like shadows. The reflectors/lenses keep the light directed in too narrow of a path for being that close to the plants. They are getting pretty warm so I'll probably need to monitor them and maybe hook up the fans. I'll unplug them before going to bed tonight.

Be careful with those new lights and distance - each light is a little different in effect .

Don't you dare step aside on advice SweetSue :) You get free lights all the time and have MUCH more experience!

There are 2 main strategies for growing:

Crop grows that flip the light cycle and grow one batch of plants at a time. Either planting new seeds every grow, or (optionally) use a separate mother area that is constantly in veg.

Perennial grows where seeds and clones flow into veg areas then flow into flower areas - either as individual plants of in batches of plants.

I think it is valuable to have a separate veg and flower area - is that in your plans? If so, divide your lights between veg and flower - SweetSue can help :)

It will be impossible to use clones without a dedicated veg area.

I noticed that the other cutting from AK that I have in the cloner is flowering also. I really wonder if Sue is correct about it being an auto so I contacted the supplier to have them double check. Everything I see says it is a fem photo. I'm sure it will be a day before they answer.

The plan was to have separate veg and flower areas, plus an extra tent that could be used as needed with enough lights for all areas to run at the same time. I intended to take multiple clones of every seed planted to grow out and feed the flower tent.

I can have a tent assembled with lights hanging in an hour or so if needed.

I ended up letting the additional lights run today and AK grew about an inch. GBK does not look upset about the added light but didn't grow much. Temp is 77 degrees and 76% humidity.

I don't know what to do except maybe change the 60 degree reflectors to 90 degree and wait. What else can be done to help it go back into veg if it is a photo?

In my opinion, if it's a photo that shouldn't have happened. Not to the extent we're seeing in your pictures. They look like autos to me.

In a bizarre twist of fate, your AK47 is behaving like an AK47 Auto. I'd ask the supplier to send you replacement AK47 seeds.

I can understand the clone going into flower, but the adult going into flower makes no sense. It's nothing you did.

The best you can do is continue to grow in a way that makes Gold Bar Kush happy. Maybe set her up with your future veg lights.

GBK will benefit from more time in Veg. AK47 will do what she is going to do. The AK47 clones are now mini science experiments.

As a flowering girl, AK47 will be happier with stronger lights. She is growing fast because she is in the stretch. In your shoes I'd be tempted to set up your flower room in the next few days, put AK47 on one side, and get used to growing with 2 tents. The stronger flower lights will really help get her frosty. Put her on the 2nd week of flower nutes schedule. You can even put her on a SWICK and start watering every 2-3 days.

If you do that, you can clone GBK and/or start new seedling(s) to veg in the AK47 veg space. GBK will be ready to join AK47 in the flower tent before she is done.

A bizarre situation. Nothing you did.

I've been sitting here feeling depressed most of the evening thinking I didn't do something right and not knowing how to correct it. If I caused it then I want to learn what I did wrong. If she is an auto then everything is cool and I have no complaints because it was a free seed.

I've been moving things around in the closet just now trying to decide if I should put up the 32 x 32 x 64 or the 36 x 36 x 72 tent. The bigger tent will fit if I can find a place to put two tote bins that are in the way.

I also got out the lighting parts and looked at how to align and drill for the cobs and reflectors but couldn't motivate myself to get started.

20170410_203306.jpg

Now I need to get motivated and set up a tent so I can cater to their needs.

I've also been trying to decide what seed or seeds to drop since there won't be any AK clones to veg into large plants. Here is what I have to choose from:

KC Brains Northern Lights Special
KC Brains Sweet Dreams
KC Brains Brains Choice
DinaFem OG Kush Fem
GYO AK47 (maybe auto)
Bomb Seeds Big Bomb
GYO Critical Carmel Fem Auto
Spliff Gold Bar Kush Fem
Nirvana White Castle
Spliff Haze No. 1
KC Brains KC42
Bomb Seeds Hash Bomb
Nirvana AK48
World of Seeds Columbia Gold
KC Brains Cristal Paradise
Spliff Afghan
World of Seeds Afghan Kush
GYO Cinderella 99 Fem

All seeds are reg photo except for the couple that are noted as fem or auto.

I've been debating between Hash Bomb or Columbia Gold but can't seem to make a decision. Any suggestions are welcomed.

That pile of parts is intimidating.

Between Hash Bomb or Columbia Gold I would go Hash Bomb - a true Columbian Gold would give you a similar indica heavy smoke as Gold Bar Kush but might be a bit odd looking to raise - so you might want to wait until you have 3-4 grows under your belt.

Out of the list I would consider Cristal Paradise it has Big Bud for big buds, Skunk #1 for the overall familiar growing habits and effect, and a lot of Brazilian Sativa to give it some of the happy, energetic high found in an AK47.

Cinderella 99 is supposed to be a strong hitting, easy to grow sativa if you want the real Sativa high. There are several versions out there - people must love it :)

These both should offer a contrasting option to your kush.

Don't push yourself to get the new tent up and lit. Flowering early, AK47 is not going to be the big yielder like we expected. She will be a better smoke raised fully in your flower area, but if you were planning to take 3 weeks to put your tent together, take the 3 weeks. She will still be good smoke if you get the flower lights on her 2 or 3 weeks from now.

So sorry this happened - but we all get plants that disappoint us. AK47 will still be fun to watch and grow, she just won't be mother to many generations of baby AK47s.

Thanks Rad. I'm feeling a lot better today except for all of this congestion from the pollen outside. I didn't realize how much I was expecting this grow to as planned. I'll adjust and just have more variety now. I wouldn't have dropped that seed if I knew it was going to be an auto. Oh, they emailed back today and confirmed that it was supposed to be a photo. I won't argue with them since it was a freebie.

I picked up a new spring loaded center punch today since the old one turned up missing. I can imagine that one of my kids enjoyed playing with the old one. I might start prepping the heat sinks in a few minutes.....or I might take a nap first. Lol

You make some good points to consider on which seeds to pick. I'll probably give it a couple days before I drop any. The Columbia Gold was listed as 75% Sativa though. I wonder if the difference is because of the breeder it came from. It had a good description. "This baby produces a potent, sativa-heavy high that comes with a side-order of giggles. fantastic, cerebral and heady high with amazing psychedelic qualities."

I mostly put up the 36" tent and didn't like how it fit in this closet so I took it down and put up the 32". I won't be able to fit two of these swick pans in the smaller tent but I'm sure I will find something when I go to the store. I'm tempted to go ahead and move AK into the tent and put her on 12/12. I'll keep the clone in veg to see what happens. Her second clone should have roots soon too. I need to check the GBK clone tonight and see if the roots are big enough for her to go into some soil. I should probably start another clone soon.

About the Columbian Gold, your Breeder was right and I was ... spaced ... about my comments. What I wrote said an indica high and alluded to Sativa growth habits - thats just ludicrous. The descriptions sounds just like the high of my AK47 (without the psychedlic properties.) If you were smoking that Columbian Gold you wouldn't be napping :) Sounds like a great choice.

Re GBK clone. If you put AK47 into a flower tent, GBK could join her in a month. Your GBK Clone could follow in 2 months, leaving 2 slots still open as soon as AK47 harvests. So assuming 4 plants in a flower tent, you should start 2 more. Maybe 2 new strains so you have clones of 4 strains in flower all the time. Once you find all clones in your flower tent, if you find your flower room less than full, you can add another 2 strains.

You can afford to start with only 4 strains. With 4 strains growing, you won't run out of cannabis :)

After my "nap" turned into 8 hours I woke up and tried to decide what seeds to drop. I had a hard time deciding and still want to try all of them. These are the next to join the party.....for now.

It probably was not an auto, auto's go from seed to harvest in 60 days usually 75 for the bigger ones. If I could figure out how to post a pic I could show you one at 30 days.

If it is not an auto then I'd love to learn what I've done wrong.

I think there's a guide for posting pics at the top of this forum. I'll see if I can find it for you.

I had 2 fifths of Goldschlager last year. I like sipping it at night.

So how'd you know the family went to a drag show last Friday? :hmmmm: It had a wild women, 'bachelorette party in a bar' vibe.
There was one group of 7 women there; 4 generations of family :)

I knew you would enjoy seeing that glass again. I got it at Kennedy Space Center 25 years ago.

The Goldschlager glass is a few years older. It was a free gift along with several shots at a bar one night. A couple of chesty hot blonde chicks with barely any shirts on came in promoting it that night with free shots and glasses. There weren't many people at the bar that night so they gave me lots of attention. I never could just sip it. I can't remember what town I was in or how I got home but had a great time.

I had no idea about the drag show. It sounds like a blast. There's usually lots of fun in that.

Are you sure they were women?

I lived in San Francisco. There are drag queen family members (not recently.) Yeah - I can tell 99 times out of 100 :)

The funny thing I realized at the show, this was the first time I had seen drag queens perform. All my previous drag encounters were at office jobs, on the street, or TV and movies - so I can check that off my bucket list!

You can't check it off the list until you've performed.

I thought I typed out a post but it seems to have disappeared. Let me try this again.

I moved AK47 into the 32" tent along with 4 cobs running at 28 watts each for a total of 112 watts. I also changed two of the 60 degree reflectors for 90 degree reflectors to see which ones I like better.

GBK is looking good in the veg area still. The first AK clone and the leaf experiment are in there with her. I potted the leaf a couple days ago since it had a root showing. The two seeds I planted will join them later tonight since they both have a tap root showing.
