Munki's Ebb n Flow 3 x 3 SCROG 400W HPS Grow

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I poked my head in there before the lights went out and there are budsites at probably 40% of the holes of the screen where the canopy exists. It is pretty neat.

nice going :) nice reflector as well !

Thanks. It isn't anything special. Just a Hydrofarm unit that houses the ballast inside the reflector. I wouldn't have gotten this unit new as it is too heavy to suspend with retractable cords and may be challenging to use with a light mover. Hey, for $75 with a pretty new lamp installed, I thought it was a bargain. I will get what I want eventually. For the hood, I want this.

Sunlight Supply Super Sun 2 reflector

I have read of some testing that has shown greater efficiency with this hood and it is easy to clean. Tests haven't been done on all reflectors out there, (I so wish!), but this one has stayed on top for years now.

Stully,

PM for you.

just curious, what is the reason you would never buy feminized?

There are several methods for creating "feminized" seed. Who is to say which one a given breeder uses? Some have been known to cause hermaphrodism or less-then stellar genetic issues.

Not to mention that breeders that focus on "feminized" stock have in so doing discounted a good portion of the genetic pool (that brought by the males).

Do those tests list the light pattern and spread at various heights? From the different reflector shapes/sizes and the placement of the bulb (high next to the reflector or low close to the glass) I would think that there would be a wide range. I'd be interested in seeing such data.

You have been PM'ed my friend. (twice)

How are those buds developing? I was wondering if u feel like u trimmed too much?

No, I didn't trim too much. In fact, it is already getting a bit too crowded under the screen again! I have had the lamp pretty low (in height above the canopy), so the light intensity was at the upper useful end for the plants. I'm guessing that really bumped up the growth. Anyways, I'm about to post a set of pics I took just before the lights went out this morning.

OK, more pics from about 1 hour ago. I did once again raise my lamp another chain link last night to further allow the light to spread out to the entire canopy. That means I have raised it by about 4 1/2 inches from its lowest point. Here are the pics.

looks good munki-So tell me what you think you'll pullout or hoping to pull out.

Minimum acceptable would be 1 ounce per square foot. I don't know how much real estate I'll get covered in the end, but I expect a minimum yield of 4 ounces and expect more. First grow for me, so these estimates are from what I've read about ScrOG. Experience will allow me to be a better guesser next time.

they look good, i got the same size cabinet that i havent used in a while. i think i may scrog it myself after checkin your and 420fieds scrog for the last couple days, we'll see though.well with the exception i'll be using 15 ladies. i was going to s.o.g but hey why not have some fun with em.

Outstanding set-up and grow Munki... cannot wait to see what she does next.

looking great munk, its really filling out for you.

just an experienced eyeball estimate of your canopy, I would guess that you will get about a half pound. I would guess more if you light was stronger and you had more room for root mass.

once you start letting them run up, i would guess you'll get 4-5 gram buds, and you prob have 40-50 sites.

man, for your first grow, you sure are going to be pleased when your done.

Cool. I do expect more than a QP and a half pound would be great.

In about a week, I think I can let the budsites just run up through the screen. Other than daily checks on the rez, I won't anticipate any work until harvest. :rasta:

4 ounces off 2 plants isnt too shabby. id hope for 8. 4 per plant. idk how much the ScrOG effects yeild though. my buddy just gor 3 oz off his purple haze plant. that he cropped early too.

ScrOG and other grow methods will not directly affect yeild; the amount of light is the primary factor there. Individual methods can yield more than others depending on other factors. ScrOG was invented to deal with the issue of the low light penetration and spread out light source that florescent tubes have. It also works well to get the highest percentage of budsites into the smaller growing zones of lower powered HIDs like HPS at 400 watts and below.

Who knows what your buddy would have got if he harvested on time. I plan on running this grow for how ever long it takes.

Sounds like it would be pretty tight to me. It would be difficult to get a plant to not fill 2 square feet of screen. I know there are factors like veg time and height of screen, but apparently "back in the day", 4 sq. feet per plant was done regularly. Less plants, Lower maintenance. Oh, and when designing the dimensions of your screen, take into account that you need to be able to reach your arm underneath the canopy and screen to every branch just under the screen. By way of example, mine is too big since I can only realistically access it from the front. 420fied could have his screen size because he had access all around the edges. Just something to consider.

Munki, I could just sit here all day looking at the SCROG you have got going. It is a work of art and the time and effort you are putting in is going to be well rewarded. I am going to put my guess in for your total yield at 5 oz dry.

Have to agree with Wheelo about your lighting. Is there anyway you can get a 600 or 1000 in there? You would easily get the pound then!!! I have bumped up to 1000 in my grow room and the impact it has made is nothing short of outrageously spectacular!!!

Might as well have everyone post up what y'all think the dried yield will be. Probably a bit early to guess as I'm only into the third week of 12/12.

More lighting will equal more bud as long as the other environmental factors can be kept in check. I have one 15 Amp circuit that tests to 118 volts AC. I have to share that circuit with a bedroom. So, I figure 80% max load would be acceptable on the line, so 12 Amps total for both rooms. I'll allocate 3 Amps to the bedroom, leaving me with 9 Amps. 9 x 118 = 1062 VA or Watts if the power factor was 100. I lose a little so I have a shade over 1 KW TOTAL for EVERYTHING. The 400 Watt lamp draws closer to 500 watts to the ballast. The fans use around 200 to 250 watts. On my Kill-A-Watt meter, I have seen momentary use levels hit 700 watts. So, I could go to a 600 watter but that would push it to the limit. What if I want to put in a veg room? If I do, the 400 watter in the flower room will be my limit.

I think a lot of people see the prices on the 400, 600, and 1000 and say "Hey, that 1k isn't much more." and they buy it, find out they can't cool it, then try to sell it off secondhand. I see 1000 watt ballasts sold second hand all the time! If you have the room and cooling to handle it, go for it. I do not.

Oh, God forbid if a hair dryer gets run in that bedroom while I'm consuming full power! It is a great reason to run the room from 8 PM to 8 AM.
