Munki's 2 x 4 Bubba Kush ScrOG Bondage

Looking good! From your pics it appears the distance between hydroton and screen is 9 or 10 inches? I'm wondering if you decided that was the best height or if that was as low as you could go given Bertha's size? Also wondering why you prefer a 2" mesh over a smaller or larger size.

Sorry for all the questions - I'm here to learn!

I think it is 9 1/2 inches so excellent call there usul! Why that height? Honestly it was near the minimum of extra height I could add to the existing design of just straight down poles. I added two T joints into each section with 4 small pieces from the last scrog frame in total to make the connection points for the cross beams. I had 9 inches of clearance in my last grow and it worked out pretty good for me. It also clears the current plant height and I still have enough room to raise the hood up several inches still once we get the forest growing. :;):

I think we are ready to :theband:

That bucket set up is really sweet. I'm still trippin how the water drains from the top. Very smart munki.

Oh the bucket idea is not my own original idea. Got it from this killer reference site. It isn't a forum so it is not a competitor to our forum here but a great distillation of knowledge. Check it out.

CannaStats Home Page

Here is the specific page for the bucket. I started with a Phototron so a Google search of phototron and ebb got me here.

The mistake they make in the photos is the feed/siphon line's hole in the bucket is placed below the overfill line's hole. If the siphon line's hole is above the ovefill's, you don't need to make the siphon's bucket hole water tight as it will always be above the water line. Chance for a catastrophic flood is slim to none with this setup. If somehow a line failed on the ebb and grow system, I could see it pumping all the 55 gallons of reservoir out as the control float valve would never get set off. I don't know if that has happened before, but that would be a real mess.

Hi munki

Ya never know until you try. Bet you cut yourself up making the S&M set up.

New ones fine. Thanks for the detailed explanations. :peace:

I didn't cut myself much, just a couple of scratches. Thousands of snips that were a waste though.

Heck maybe you could use that for your verticle scrOG if you are going there sometime. Yea I save everything and try to use it where ever and whenever I can. I know I used a lot of stuff around the garage making my grow room electrical controls. We have been having a cold spell and I had to make an automatic heater with a portable space heater, a 24v transformer, a tstat and electrical cord. Works like a charm. We hit 19F the other night and my room in the garage was at a comfortable 67F when the garage itself was in the low 30's. Very nice not having to worry about temps in the winter. Sorry about the interception in the post. I am getting ready to take clones from my room here pretty quick and I am looking to get a digital camera so I should get my first journal going pretty soon.

Looking forward to it "MacGyver" :;):

Thanks for the laugh. My cats are sitting here looking at me laughing like like i'm cracked and it makes me laugh harder.

I imagine that they look like your avatar pic!

Ok this is my 50th post and hopefully I will be able to vote on grows now. Am I right? not sure...so HAPPY 50th on Munkis thread!!!! YEE HAA!!

No that is my cat Boris who passed away 6.4.07 which is my bday. I will get pics of my 2 girls Betty and Bubkis in my next journal...youll see but that avitar is my way of memorializing my buddy of 16 years. He loved to yawn first thing in the morning and I used to wait for him to start and that one was the best one. Still cracks me up.

Ok on to the grow, Which pumps are you using to flood your buckets? I've been reading and rereading these journals and I am getting goofy looking. Are there differences in the hydroton media you are using, like quality of media? I just dont want to get any inferior materials before I get started.

For hydroton, I have bought 2 10 liter bags of it and each was from a different manufacturer I think. I believe the clay is still sourced from the same place so I think you will be fine with any hydroton. For pumps, I got two different makers of pumps in there. The ones that go for like $12 at the hydro store. Off the top of my head, I think they were rated like at 160 GPH. Just make sure the pump has enough head height to get to the height of the top of your flood bucket or tray. It takes probably around 7 - 8 minutes for a pump to flood a bucket in my system presently.

Wow, munik, looks like you must of spent a lot of time snipping all those squares. I think the net was a good call. I would hate too see that bondage scrog do damage to those lovely plants. Great job....

Using the metal screen would have been a disaster unless I could have gotten a thick coat of Plasti Dip on it. I did not have that stuff, so the netting was my next option. Glad I went with it so far.

one big bananna for munki, great job. huge stems on those gals already and lots of branches.

actually just cought the pics of the screen, i feel ya on the labors of snipping, yeah it cut up some fan leaves, but its not too bad. it would have worked fine, but the net is def less stressful. all that work for naught. lol, tough.

I think I got the idea from your ScrOG net. I was desperate to get a screen with a decent hole size like 2 inch square or larger. The Depot did not have a net like that unless I bought 50 feet so I tried to improvise like you did. The netting should be an easier method and currently think it has a lot of potential.

Plants are looking very healthy! Nice thick stems.

The main trunk on Bertha is impressive. I think it could hold firm in a category 3 hurricane at this point (main trunk and stems at least)!

BTW, as I moved the buckets to their positions out more so they each feed their own 2 x 2 section. Currently, each plant centers in that 2 x 2 area but I am considering moving them more towards the edges as they grow out as a method of training the foliage. We shall see if that works out here in the next few weeks.
