Munki's 2 x 4 Bubba Kush ScrOG Bondage

What is your strategy for determining how much space to leave between the hydroton and the screen? I had always thought more space would be better - maybe 12 or 14 inches. You did 9 on your last grow and now you'd like to do even less. You obviously know what you're doing and I'd love it if you could share a bit of wisdom regarding how to determine optimum screen height.

Thanks so much!

Two things to consider. One is what the plant's height would normally be without the screen and two is just having enough room to pull down shoots that have grown up into the screen and tucking them back under and outward. Need some space to move your hands around down there. So, one condition is set by the strain and the other is grower's preference.

I am going to add some cross supports on the down poles in order to reduce sway. The T joints I add to the down poles will increase the overall height by several inches. That additional space will be welcomed as I lost some space when I added the board that the blue buckets now sit on. Before I had the blue buckets sit directly on the secured orange buckets so the overall height was probably 2 inches lower.

Here is where the plants are as the complete week 3. Growth is quite vigorous at this point. It is easy to see growth on a daily basis.

Hey Munki, I just made a 4' octagon scrog to go along with my super sunsoaker and I used what looked like concrete reinforcement wire. it has openings like 1.5" x 3". Not sure if that is too big of an opening but it seems to work pretty well to be able to move the taller branches around with out damage. Looking at it, it could possibly be some type of fencing with 14 or 12ga wire. Are you using the same type of screen that you used before and is that what you are using to make larger openings in the fabric of the screen. I am hooked on this journal and your precise reports on your grows. Excellent info!

I think I may know of the wire you peak of and it should work fine. I could find something like that but it was fencing. Minimum length was 50 foot roll so I didn't buy it. I'll post what I tried to do yesterday that I think will not work.

I want to see some pics of your setup Ray Gunn. Sounds pretty sweet!

i am not aware of a current vert op on this site, can you post pics??? (in your own journal):yummy:

Hmm, I'm not doing a vertical ScrOG. Not in this journal at least though I may in the future as I have heard good things about them. I don't think setup of a vertical ScrOG is simple though and simplicity is my current mantra for my present grows.

Here is how the hardware cloth that I cut to make 2" x 2" square holes. It looks like barb wire and feels like it too. I think it could be used but would first need to be dipped in Plasi Dip.

I will be redoing this. Man, it took a lot of snips to make this too. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Well if I used that screen it would definitely be classified as an S & M type of bondage for sure! It is just wicked. Removed it for the sake of my sanity and skin. Went with a relatively easy method. I had some netting for gardens that is made out of plastic. I was able to attach it securely and tight to the frame with electrical tape. I also added cross beams for structural integrity and rigidity. Check it out. Sorry that some of the pics are dim. I wanted to show the whole tent and it was kind of dark. You can make out most of the components in the pics. Note that I added ducting lines through the hood now. Air goes through the carbon scrubber, then the inline fan, hood, and out of the tent via about 20 feet of flexible duct. I have the exhaust blowing directly onto the ballast to help cool the housing.

Nice score on the netting. That is a great idea! The only reason i used that fencing was my bro was scrapping metal and he left me a piece of it. I thought it was crazy to buy a giant roll of fencing too. I appologise for not getting pics of my set up, its just my camera was ripped off and my cell phone takes crappy photos. I hope Santa brings my camera this Christmas.....lol.

the weed that would grow through that screen should have thorns and kill you if you smoke too much

lol
Lol a scrOG with teeth. Could possibly work as security if you had room mates that was trying to snag a bud lmao.

sorry munki, i was talking to ray bun here, and i was blazed so i thought he built a 4' octagon aero setup, like a coliseum. my bad sorry for the confusion.:rasta:

Heh! No problem. So you thought he was going to have plants fight to the death in a MMA style fight? Sativa vs Indica to the death!

LLeeettttss get ready to rumble ! ! ! That was funny. No I just built an octagon scrOG the size of my hood and trying this scrOG set up too. It kind of looks like a MMA arena.

Looking good! From your pics it appears the distance between hydroton and screen is 9 or 10 inches? I'm wondering if you decided that was the best height or if that was as low as you could go given Bertha's size? Also wondering why you prefer a 2" mesh over a smaller or larger size.

Sorry for all the questions - I'm here to learn!
