Morglie's Perpetual: New Space & New Strains

I've backed off quite a bit from what I was doing as well. I do the ACE strains at 1-1.5 ml/gallon of soil. So far that's been doing well. I don't spray nearly as much as I should be either. I haven't been getting the rusty edges if at all until the very end.
I've cut back to ,5 per gallon on most of my strains in the hopes it may help. I was going 1.5-2 per gallon before. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the amount of foliars I use because of hitting them with leaf wash every time they get watered. They don't start showing until later flower and I stop the leaf wash once they start getting their cats, so they aren't even getting it at that point. I'm stumped.

Isn't it Mg deficiency?

Yeah it's a frustrating problem for sure. I notice I'll see it start to show up if I leave a plant in a 1 to long too. So far I don't see it anything right now but I do get the occasional rust spot on an edge leaf, I just figured it was overspray. So your new growth is showing the same rusty edges after applying roots!?
I'm only seeing the issue crop up around the 4th to 6th week in flower and it seems to be more pronounced on the sativas. Its past the stretch phase, so the only new growth is in the flowers and sugar leaves.

I get the low growth dying before I up pot, but that's normal and it recovers just fine.

On another note, have you taken brix readings from the petioles? When I remove leaves I get juice on the end of the leaf stem a lot of the time and have been taking brix readings. They are way off of where the plants should be. I'm seeing 40-60 normally on it. I even had one the other day that was white all the way up to 100. I've tried the crushing the leaves, but I can't get any juice out.

I was hitting my plants with way ahead x10 every other week, which adds magnesium. That's when I first started seeing it. I stopped that practice and only hit my plants once with it this cycle which is what they actually should be getting if they need extra. They are still looking the same. I'm not seeing any leaf curl either, which I thought was one of the main symptoms of magnesium deficiency.

Honestly I don't know where my refractometer even is right now. I used to take readings until I kinda developed an eye for it. I don't think petiole juice will give you an accurate reading. I would just take my test leaf and ball it up and keep crushing it until I could squeeze some juice. Try using some vice grips with something in between the jaws like quarters or something to squish the leaf with.

Thanks. I was trying to do it with just the vice grips and couldn't get anything. I'm seeing fluctuations with the petiole juice that reflect the health. Its just way higher than I expected.

Hey @neiko and Morglie, is there a particular brand of refractomer that you would recommend? Not the most expensive, but something that works and doesn’t cost the moon?
:Namaste:
I don't remember what brand mine is. It comes with its own little case and I maybe paid $20 for it. You don't need anything fancy, just Google refractometer. Several inexpensive ones should show up.
You'll be right mate, I have faith in your growing skills :high-five:
Thanks. I felt like it was time to try one of these wild ones. I'm starting to feel comfortable with the normal plants now and wanted to push my boundaries. :)

Just grow plants that are too big like me if you want to push your boundaries  I get you though, these Malawi I have are the most landracey plant I've grown to date and from what I've been told things will get out of hand fast. Makes for more exciting/stressful growing
That's the idea. I want the challenge to keep things interesting.
I was growing bigger plants in 17 gallon totes, but they were just getting unwieldy. They were turning into messes of buds flopping everywhere.

I agree, it's boring enough watching them grow sometimes, gotta do something to help keep it fun :)
Goisus no wonder they were getting so messy, that's 64.3L per pot  Probably not go that big again aye hahaha
Looking forward to your next update mate!

Its not so much the size as the fact that they are unwieldy in my room when I get several totes packed in there. The 5 gallon buckets are easier to move around when I need to get to the back plants.

I was going to cut my Malawi in the morning, but she earned a reprieve for another week. She's been showing amber on a few sugar leaves early this week. It hasn't progressed anymore so I'm going to let her go until next weekend.

The plant I've got going into her space is good for another week. She doesn't stretch much and its going to be my last run of this cut of Early Bubba Hash, so I decided I'd let her get good sized and build up a bit more of her stash. I love the smoke, but it's limited use, so I'm getting a build up. It wasn't a special plant. Just a special strain. I've got more beans to pop when I need it again.

The Panama is throwing out random fox tails. I'm hoping she goes another 4 weeks. I'm starting to have my doubts though. In another week, if she hasn't had an explosion of new pistols she'll be wrapping up and about to finish. She's got a lovely bouquet of lime on top of a pungent stink, almost like compost.
As a counterpoint, the Kerala that went into my flower room on the same day isn't quite as far along. I'm thinking she's going to go at least 20 weeks. Not even halfway there yet. Spirals of buds....
The spike on the Malawi x PCK is starting to swell. She should have another 4-6 weeks to go. I adjusted my fan so that it was blowing on the top. Its going to get fat. She still has the blueberry muffin smell. :yummy:
Volunteer Purple Dawg that started flowering the same day as the Malawi x PCK. She should have 2-3 weeks left.
My Zam x Pan. Same day in as the Kerala and Panama. She'll take a couple of weeks longer than the Panama. I'm not seeing more than another 4 though. She's lost almost all her fans at this point. She's one that has suffered from the copper leaf edges.
I've got a high CBD nil THC cut of Cannatonic that I'm holding onto, but haven't been planning on flowering out again for a while. She's been cut back severely multiple times and still had transitioned from a half gallon to a 1 gallon in that time. I trimmed her back again today, then repotted her with fresh 1st run soil. Hopefully I didn't shock her to badly. I bonsaied her. :)

Peace

Damn that Kerala is just going and going ain't it? I looked up the rusted leaf edges and i think it might be either severe nute burn, copper def or root problems. I would put my bets on nute burn but I don't know for sure.
Hopefully you can sought it out before the Kerala has next to no leaves left :thumb:
What does your malawi smell like? The MalawixPCK sounds delicious, blueberry muffins? Sign me up haha

The lower foliage is looking ok on the Kerala. She looks to have the steam to go that long. It's just some of the skinny leaves in the buds that are dropping up. I don't think it's nute burn. I've been giving her half the drench as I normally do, and I've been going two plain waters in between each drench. The copper leaf edges is an issue I'm having with several plants. Its not been to bad though.

The Malawi has a very sweet smell that can vary between a berry smell, to root beer, to grape.

I'm excited to try the Malawi x PCK. I've got a Blueberry in flower, but this is the one that smells like it. It's been one of the most vigorous plants I've ever grown.

Hmmm well what ever it is if it's not that bad it's not that much of an issue right now you're right :)

Damn that sounds mighty tasty, I love all those flavors so sounds great to me :thumb: I forgot to ask how the Kerala is smelling if she is producing any smell that you can pinpoint at this point in time?

I still remember the Blueberry crosses I grew out a few years back. That blueberry taste is just so sweet and delicious, makes you think you're actually eating the real thing haha!

Man seeing all these flowers just makes me want mine to grow faster. Enjoy mate :D

Thanks for the kind words. The Kerala still isn't putting out any noticable smell. Hopefully that changes. She's still fairly early, but I was expecting something by now.

That's so weird, maybe because the other plants are so pungent you can't really get a clear smell of her? I'm hoping the same as you mate, gotta be some smell in those flowers somewhere...:passitleft:
