Mono's 600 Watt HPS Soil Grow 2013

I'm getting a delivery from ASDA tomorrow, so will have a look and get something to be delivered with the rest of the stuff. I'm sure they will have a similar product. I think I will also place a layer of sand over the top as an extra precaution.

ya bro, I've been told the sand works, It's incompatable with my current methods as practically all my amendments are worked into the top of the soil. They may have quit making the sns 204, I know that's what I originally used, but no one is getting any references from the boys at sns. In any case I've had a few battles with those little bastards and my weeds still standing...LOL.

Okay so the only thing I could find on my virtual walk through the store was Hydrogen Peroxide. It will be delivered tomorrow, so will be able to apply it after work.

Hopefully it will be able to slow them down until I go into town at the weekend and get something proper. Just need to do a bit of research now on how much of it to use.

EDIT- After a bit of research I think h202 may ruin the good bacteria in my soil also, sort of sterilizing it. Is it worth using Hydrogen Peroxide when growing in soil?

I would only use it under emergency conditions......maybe just me. Your plants look great...keep doin what you're doin...+reps

Mono. I like you. So I will help you grow clones that never fail. I ordered some iced Grapes from Feminised and googled grows and found yours and liked it.

2 things first.

1st . grow in bigger pots. I like 30 litres of soil. go for 20 if you want more plants.

2nd. Lean on them more with ferts. If the makers say 4-5 ml/l. give it to em 5ml. not 2.5ml. they love it.

and 3rd. top your plants. You want 3 sets of branches then take the head off for clone. and let them veg it out for a month. (if starting from seeds. this gives you four massive branches to bend out like a greek cross and two spare branches to cut off for two more clones. then you'll have 3 clones per plant before they flower. you can clone when they are in flower too. as you know a few weeks makes a huge difference in branches to choose from.

keep them warm at night. 18'c is ok.

Now for your clones to take everytime listen up good. 3 things you need.. beginning with H. the three H's are.. Humidity , Heat and Hormone. Infact Hormone is tertiary to heat and humidity. Hydro is a dead cert to root clones as it delivers the heat and humidity automatically. But I would use soil. Pat pellets ,whatever. U have the dome. but do you have the heat? if you turn off the lights in the veg room they freeze. go 24/24 in there while rooting up. BUT the real gem of wisdom is this....

don't cut from a plant while the lights are on.. let them chill in the dark for 30 minutes. this slows the juices down. when you cut them put them into a glass of water imediatley.. do it in under 2 seconds.. this is the big tip. let them sit for a few minutes there is no rush at this point. as long as they are submerged. I noticed you used gaping holes to slot them in.. pack that medium down nice and snug.. dare I say... make it fairly compacted against the stem. before you put them in the peat though.. heed me when I say these words,, cut the stem with a razor at 45 degrees and with that same sharp edge make for very shallow slits at 45 degrees , slanting downwards within a centimetre of the bottom cut of the stem. very shallow nicks that don't go in far but just make a slight crack sound as the brittle skin breaks on the edge of the razor. these slits will trap the rooting gel you will stand the in for a minutes or two . its so easy to gt perfect clones in soil.. but you must catch them sleeping.. not weeping.. dunk them into the gel and you'll see how the gell clings to the grooves ypou cut. then bury them and seal that gap good.

last but most important of all Mono. the trickest tip of all.. I shall share with you now. when the clones are in their new homes and their leaves trimmed back to slow their evaporation.. you must water in the stems with a 10 splash of rooting gel and water.. use mineral water or tap water.. its all good.. never mind balancing it... just get a tea spoon of the gel.. and a shotglass of water.. and stir well.. then lightly drench the clones around the base of the stem.. this creates a seal as the soil is drawn against the stem ..then you must leave them in constanst warmth and light to promote humidity. 24/24. and I mean low light man.. 30 cm from a 20 watt cfl is perfect.. but bake them and they will freeze forever.. spray them and the dome that keeps them once to twice a days with regular water from a wee pump spray and you will rootem everytime within two weeks.

Okay so they h202 arrived, but after a think while at work today I have decided I am going to try some more organic methods of controlling the problem first.

I have ordered 100 liters of Perlite to be delivered, along with some sticky traps so hopefully I will be able to break their life cycle by covering all the plant pots in the house with a 1/2 inch of perlite and use the sticky traps to catch the adults.

If they don't work, I will get some mosquito dunks and use them with water as a drench.

If those don't work I will try SNS-203, however delivery to Scotland costs 150.02 USD. :o

Fingers Crossed the above remedies will have a good effect

It's coming to the end of day 17 of 12/12 and despite the pesky gnats, things in the flowering tent seem to be coming along well. :high-five:

Would you guys say the bud development on the plants is about right for day 17 of 12/12? Can take a few close ups if need be.

Thanks again for all your help and support! :thanks:

That would be perfect, If I had a steamer lol. Just got a regular iron in the house...

Edit - The wife said the iron can blast out steam, shows how much I know haha. Going to have a go at killing as many of them that way as possible before putting perlite over the top of the pots.

Thanks again for the link :high-five:

:peace:

Easiest and quickest way to get rid of gnats (for me anyways). 4:1 [water:hydrogen peroxide] for watering, it kills the larva instantly. About 85% of the time, the adults disappear also. If they don't, pop some cinnamon on top of the soil after watering, I've also done that and it works BUT be careful on the amount. I just put a light dusting to cover the soil, never had any problems. Best of luck mate!

howd it go with the iron?

Seems to have killed most of them mate, great link. I am still waiting on perlite and sticky traps being delivered so when they come I think I will have another go with the iron then put perlite over the pots and sticky traps up.

Also going to have a mad clean out of the grow room for any mess or standing soil.

:peace:

So the two clones are coming along nicely, gave them another trim and a tie down today. Next time I give them a trim it's going to be big enough to hopefully take some clones from them, or that's the plan anyway.

Fungus gnats don't seem to be having a bad effect on the plants. Ladies in the flowering tent were fed the strongest yet at 7ml per liter plus 1.5 ml of pk 13/14 per liter. They seem to be loving the extra nutes. Everything is exploding into life, Buds are really starting to put on weight, can notice the difference on a daily basis now.

Starting to get a little bit stinky in the grow room now. :)

Seem to be unable to upload pics for now, will try again tomorrow :)
