MK-Ultra Hempy - C02 - 1000 Watts

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

Thanks Doc. I'm going to set up hempy buckets with a reservoir beneath the table, a pump on a timer to drip them on a schedule and a return to the res for the overflow. I guess these changes would turn the hempies into batos.

How many plants you going to grow?

The reason I ask is because hand watering is way easier and uses less water and nutes than a reservoir. The reservoir would only be helpful, IMO, if you had 12 or more plants. I'm hand watering 8 presently....takes about 20 minutes to mix, PH, and water.

If I mix 5 gallons, I get about 1/2 gallon in runoff. Watering twice a week right now=10 gallons per week.

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

Well, let's say my routine for 10 plants took me over two hours on the last feeding.

Using a fine spray is the biggest time suck, but that's how I like to do it. I can hear the O2 bubbles making snap, crackle and pop noises on their way down through the soil, and I like that ;).

Takes way too long though.

I'm thinking of setting my Hempy buckets up with a 2" layer of Perlite at the bottom, and layering every 2" with Hydroton alternating with Perlite, kinda like a canna-parfait ;).

My reasoning is that the layers of hydroton will provide more airspace and oxygenation, and the Hydroton will also retain more water than pure Perlite, as I won't be using any vermiculite for water retention.

On a regular watering/feeding with soil, I'm going for 1/2 gallon runoff on each pot, and that takes a long-assed time when you spray it in. Plants love it, but I'd rather just water until I get a small amount of runoff ala Hempy.

Wow.

Why not get a pump and a wand and a homer bucket? You get oxygenated water fast that way. That's what I use when I water more than 2 at a time.

I'm beginning to think that using hydroton is a really good idea, not only for the reasons you mentioned, but also for more support for large plants. Good idea.

I think a person with your skills could really get a lot from a hempy. I look forward to watching you do it!

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

Well, it's not as bad as it sounds, I got some tunes playing and I enjoy indulging my plants, but life's too short.

I had a large capacity electric garden sprayer and wand on my shopping list, but I won't need it with Hempys.

The main reason I want to switch to them has nothing to do with convenience. I just think they grow plants better and faster than soil.

I hear ya on the better faster part. My clone is green and frosty....but it's hardly grown at all. It's in 50/50 FFOF and perlite, with time released Osmocote nutes. Bro, those nutes work. that plant is superbly healthy. It just isn't growing, but putting all its energy into flowering.

I might just get a joint's worth of yield from it.

On the other hand, the hempy's are going crazy:
Casey Jones, starting to bud.

Here's my watering setup

The tap is directly above the bucket. I mix up 5 gallons when I feed em all, and run the pump while I put the nutes in, etc. The trimeter is just above the bucket. Like I said, 20 minutes, and the water is well aerated from the pump and wand.

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

I'm growing on a 4x4 foot table so 12 plants for now. However, I would like to get the system automated so I can add more tables and keep the water and feed time down. I have been watering the same way you do, with a pump in a bucket.

12 plants on a 4x4 will be pretty crowded with any kind of veg time, but it can be done with a bit of pruning. I'm still learning the pruning methods.

Just like you, I'll go automated in the near future.

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

I'm looking at one - two weeks maximum veg cycle. I will have to prune a little.

I also plan to experiment a bit with a sog of 12/12 from seed if I can find the right strain. It has to be a hybrid with minimum side branching and big central colas like Chronic, short flowering time and good smoke.

I just had this exact conversation with someone not 10 minutes ago!

He grows Jack Herer and OG Kush from clones. He vegges for 1-3 weeks, and mixes and matches to get canopy heights matched up, then flowers.

His "secret" is to veg under HPS, not MH. He claims that when the plants stretch, as they will under HPS, the side branching is minimized....not eliminated, but minimized. Then, he trims the lower branches. He only gets 1.5 oz per plant.....but grows the plants very densely, SOG style.

From seed, you can right into 12/12.

I can't wait to try it!

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

Yep that is what I am shooting for; anything upwards of an ounce per plant will do for that kind of grow.

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

aye thats how I do to. an oz per plant puts me above a lb per 600w so I'm pushin .6 already and I'm sure i'll get an oz per plant in my situation. with the ones I harvested already I averaged 3/4 oz per plant or so but upcoming are bigger. I have more than 12 plants on a 3x3 and you can peep what I'm working with just click the train. Flood and drain would go extremely well with hempy.

Well, it technically wouldn't be hempy if it was flood and drain....but that don't matter. The important thing is to grow the plants!

Hempy's main strengths are:

1.)cheap
2.)simple
3.)effective

The main weakness is "simple." Sure, it's simple to water a hempy....but watering 40 of 'em is dumb. Why not do a flood and drain?

Exactly.

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

Nice Cola Doc,
You could hang a flag off that huge pole!! I am stoked things are going good for you, and to read about all your ideas for bigger and better grows. I also am always pushing towards making things as automated as possible.
Taker Easy.

Thanks! How's that Blue Dream smoking?

Hey brother grower....came over to see how things are....and you got it growin on :thumb:

:thanks:
I love growing! So much fun. Your grow is also looking superb....as usual.

:peace:
