MK-Ultra Hempy - C02 - 1000 Watts

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

.) I've been using filtered tap water. Plenty of calcium.
2.) I've been feeding fairly aggressively, the highest PPM was about 1450. I'm using the FF trio with the addition of

8ml hygrozyme
5ml Canna boost or 6ml Atami Bloombastic or 1 1/2 tsp Hammerhead....never all 3.
Botanicare sweet.

There's lots of P,K, Mg in those products, which led me to believe that perhaps I locked out calcium...of maybe just burned them a bit. They were growing so damn fast with no trouble.

Hey Doc,
Be careful about the presumption of calcium in tap water. TDS or hardness is measured in Calcium Carbonate Equivalent. You may have minerals in tap water that are not necessarily calcium but still make the water hard or are measured as calcium when they aren't. You can do a google search on that or check water data resources: AWWA, Montana Water, CSU Sacramento Office of Water Programs.

What are your suggestions, hydronewbie?

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

Doc,
I don't have diagnostic skills so I don't have a recommendation per se. I do know something about tap water in general. If you want to get a snapshot of your tap water quality, you can probably find an annual water quality report (or consumer confidence report) from your water purveyor online or call and ask them to mail you one. This data will include federal and state water quality standards and the chemical constituents in your tap water. For example, where I live, the tap water resource is ground water from wells which has a high mineral content and naturally occurring salts (it's hard as hell actually and tastes lousy) so I use distilled water for crop growth. Given your goal to grow the most exquisite medicine you can, I thought it might benefit you to know what's in your tap water; esp. with respect to calcium. If you are interested, here is a link to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power water quality report for 2008

Best,

I looked at my tap water a couple months ago, which is why I decided to use it. Until recently, the plants have been spectacularly healthy.

I think I just fed them a bit much, so I'll back off, watch and wait. they aren't gonna die...and they are budding up, getting frosty, etc.

I am a perfectionist, sort of, and I want to grow my plants without problems. I'm learning.....they're growing. :peace:

After doing some more reading today, I speculate that I may have overfed them with K.

Too much K is antagonistic to: N,Ca, Mg.

Elements in Excess----------------Nutrients Usually Affected

Nitrogen:--------------------------Potassium, Calcium
Potassium:------------------------Nitrogen, Calcium, Magnesium
Phosphorus:-----------------------Zinc, Iron, Copper
Calcium:---------------------------Boron, Magnesium, Phosphorus
Magnesium:------------------------Calcium, Potassium

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

that looks like classic nute burn to me! not sure it was specifically any particular element but maybe a minute general excess... if you're bouncing around the boundary it gets pretty finicky esp. with temp and pH fluctuations.

yep. That's the same conclusion I've come to as well. I was using a product called Hammerhead, from AN. It is really high in K, moderate in P. I think they got just a bit too much.....

On the other hand, they're growing! Two of them have filled in top colas, 12-14 inches long. Pics tomorrow.

Thanks for visiting, everyone!

I know I probably sound like a preacher but hydrogen peroxide 35% food grade will take chlorine and pretty well any other contaminents in the water and destroy them a tablespoon per gallon and watch the profuse bubbling as the peroxide cleans and oxygenates the water try it I USE IT IN MY GROWS NO MOULS PESTS CRITTERS just healthy plants I alo use a very mild solution to spray my plants down once a week for spraying use a ratio of 100 parts water to 1 part peroxide 1tlsp to pint or quart water

I've used it quite a bit on this grow. I've never foliar fed it, however. I'll have to try that sometime.

Day 29 Flower

Things are good. The burning of leaves has stopped, new growth continues. The Casey Jones are now budding....I'll get pics of those next time.

Below is the one with the burnt leaves. This cola is 14 inches, and there's lots of secondary buds as well. This plant is going to yield well!

So much great advise on what could be the problem. Sounds and look like you picked the correct solution. Great job, plants look awesome...

yes....I like how it worked out too.

Keeping a journal is, in my opinion, the most important thing a new grower like me can do. For example, I don't write here what I feed them each and every time, but I do keep a record. So, I can go back and look which tells me how the plants got the where they are.

I knew PH wasn't a problem
I knew they weren't under fed
I knew that if I over did it on one partucular nutrient it would have been potassium.....

And it turns out that excess K antagonizes uptake of Mg, Ca and N. My plant seemed to be exhibiting a Ca deficiency in addition to mild burn.....sooo....I lowered the PPM and the K and the Ph. A few days of patience and it looks like the problem is resolving.

I couldn't have done that without a journal, because I would have been in the dark about what I was feeding and i would not have had all the advice and extra eyes on the subject. All of that helps tremendously.

So, if any new growers are out there, you should do a journal. :peace:

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

They're popular with some of the folks I know....and these guys grow on a much larger scale than anyone here on this forum.

What I like so much about the Bato's is that they're all interchangable. Just undo the top drip, pick up the bucket, move it anywhere, or plug another one in in its place. All you need is a PVC rail with a hole drilled in it for drainage.

Using the perlite medium saves on water. The system only needs to cycle on once or twice a day max....could go as little as every 3 days. Can't over water and the square footprint of everything makes good use of the lights. Having the plants up on tables makes pruning, spraying and LST quite easy as well.

How cool would it be to have 4 or 5 tables, each under a 1k light. Start a table, 12 days later start another...then another....pretty soon you're harvesting twice a month....perpetual.

The operation I saw had 3 Jack Herer mothers and 4 OG Kush mothers. He took 4 clones from each, every 12 days...vegged for 12 days and then flowered. 5 tables.

The perlite made for massive growth. No pests from soil. Hand watering is easy if there's a power outage.....and the plants can go a couple days without water unless it's really big.

I think you can tell I was impressed....:peace:

Hey Doc, I'm curious to hear what you know about the reservoirs used in these successful bato bucket grows you have seen. How large a res? One per table? Was the res located beneath the table? Was a water chiller used, etc.?

The tables I saw were 4x4 and had a 25 gallon res below the table, sitting on concrete. It didn't need a chiller in this particular set up. All it did was top feed. I'm not sure of the schedule.....but the buckets have an internal reservoir as well, so you could probably get by watering once a day until the plants are really big.
