MK-Ultra Hempy - C02 - 1000 Watts

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

Yeah I didn't read where it was close enough, I initial thought it was on top after that so said manganese, but if it is on bottom it probably isn't that. Potassium is a maybe guess, but that would be coming from some kind of lockout condition...

See I am stoned and a newbie. :ganjamon:

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

Hey Doc, what size perlite do you recommend? I have Mother Earth #4 Perlite available locally but some folks think its too coarse (1/2" - 1" chunks). What size(s) do you think works best.

1/2 to 1" chunks sounds pretty large. I used "Coarse Agricultural perlite." They are about the size of peas and lentils, or pea gravel.

If you were going to use large pots, I don't see a problem with larger sized perlite, but I'd mix it 3:1 with vermiculite.

I have 2 plants growing in straight perlite and 3 in 4:1 Perl/verm. I think the addition of the vermiculite is beneficial, especially in the early stages. It wicks moisture a little better than straight perlite.

For a newbie, you're pretty stoned......er....for being stoned you're pretty smart....umm.....hmmmmmm.

I just got done talking to my growing mentor and he imparted some words of wisdom:

"See how the discoloration makes an upside down "V?"

When that happens on new leaves it's usually due to phosphorus lockout, which can happen for a number of reasons, including too much amoniacal nitrogen, cold temps, too much K, etc. The excess phosphorus also inhibits calcium and magnesium.

I caught my situation early and here's the fix I'm using:

Low PPM flush with balanced nutes, about 440 ppm.
Foliar feed magnesium.

I've been using Hammerhead, from AN, which has a huge amount of K and a modest amount of P. I'm going to discontinue that for a while and go with straight FF until things settle down.
Everything else is going great.

Things should be fine....but this plant is giving me trouble!

Do you use a B1 source to help with sick and shocked plants? Thrive alive or Superthrive? Just wondering how useful it was for sick plants, heard it is very useful to help plants get back on their feet. And the bottle advertizes it for fixing sick plants. Wonder if a drop is enough or if you should move it up to the 1/4 teaspoon they recommend. Or if it is useful at all.

Curious like a monkey.

:peace: from the mountains.

I do indeed use superthrive, as well as Vitaboost Pro.

However, when the problem is due to over feeding, you've got to flush out the salts first. I'll probably give them another weak feeding next time and include some ST.

I am currently foliar feeding calmag and Vitaboost. I'll take a peek tonite and see what's up.

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

The plant with the mild issues looks like mild overnute to me.

Looks like there's some leaf tip burn in addition to the other changes.

Does that plant have vermiculite in the mix?

It may be interesting to check the runoff pH of the Perlite/vermiculite pots versus the straight Perlite.

Thanks for chiming in, SS. I agree that this is mild overnute, so I semi-flushed as noted, and foliar fed to try to fix the leaves. It's not getting any worse.

This plant is in pure perlite. The other plant in pure perlite is doing great, as are the ones in P/V.

I'm going to back off a bit on the nutes for a while.

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

Things are coming along. I've got a mild overnute situation on one plant...nothing to worry about, and a mild lockout situation on another. Everything else is healthy.

The lockout occurred in the plant that had the most damaged roots when it was a baby....the overnute problem occurred on the other plant that had damaged roots. Nothing resembling a curled leaf, browned tip or anything else exists on the other plants.

What does this tell me? Healthy plants happen during the first week or two of life. Damage the roots then, and you'll have trouble later, when it counts.

I fed them a 400ppm nute solution for 2 feedings and problems seem to be corrected.

The 2 Casey Jones have greened up and gotten nice and healthy. I'm looking forward to their produce!

Having said that, here are pics:

Clones should not go into 12/12 until they have roots. This thing is in flower and it's 5 inches tall! I'll be lucky to get a joint from it.

Below is the plant that had mild lockout. The leaves that were showing the problem are healing due to foliar feeding with B1, CalMag and Dutch Master Saturator (same as penetrator)

Look at how different this plant is! They are all supposed to be the same strain.....I have my doubts. Anyone reading this:
Don't buy seeds from Dr.Chronic! They sent regular when I paid for fem. They don't respond to email. I'm pretty sure that this plant is another strain! They suck!
IMG_04432.JPG

Below is the plant with the mild nute burn. It's not a big problem....but for this grow and future grows I'm looking at growing perfect plants as a goal. I want to evolve into a grower that is known for producing absolutely exquisite product. I've got a long way to go, but that's where I'm headed.

Just for perspective....my hands are on the large side. I just foliar fed this plant, so those spots are moisture.

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

Sound like you are going to get that issue under control with the flush. Otherwise plants look very nice and I will take note for sure on that seed company and will not consider them when purchasing seeds in the future. Thanks for the heads up....

I think they'll be OK! Thanks for stopping by.

I agree, Dr. Chronic sucks.

Your plants, however, are looking great!

Man you get some fast growth with that big light and the Hempys!

and your excellent care, of course ;)

I'm tellin' ya, once you try this you won't go back. It's just too easy AND it works.

In a grow or two I'm going to graduate to a Bato-bucket type of grow. It's basically the same as a hempy, with an internal reservoir, but automated. I'm working up my skills.

My vision is to add another 1000 watts as soon as I sell the BCNL Producer and grow on 2 4x4 spots with 1000 watts over each. Ideally I'll grow 30 plants 12/12 from seed in each spot.

I saw a fantastic grow op the other day with 5 1k lights over 5 4x4 spots with these Bato's. He harvests a pound and a half every 12 days.....all grown in perlite.

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

A pound and a half every 12 days?? Thats insane!! Do you know where I can find an example of bato buckets? :peace:

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

Lookin good Doc,
I love how much detail you discuss about what you're up too. So many people simply put, "had issues, so I flushed". You break it down, and discuss all the issues you're seeing. I feel like I am over your shoulder looking at the plants lol. If it makes you feel better, I am still waiting on back ordered seeds from an order placed in December.... Other than that, I am excited to see the banto buckets in action.
Take care

I'm sure you could google it. They're also called Dutch pots.

This is merely the first listing on google:
Bato Bucket No Elbows [1556] - $6.95 : Pacific Coast Hydroponics, Premium Indoor Gardening Equipment

The basic idea is that these fit together nice and tight. You plumb drip to each one. At the bottom of the pot is a ledge and on that ledge is a hole. You fit an elbow through that hole so that when you water, it fills up the reservoir and the runoff goes through the elbow into a PVC pipe channel.

It's just a hempy bucket that is automated and is watered via a central reservoir.

They're all the rage in Europe.

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

Yep, I've been checking out Bato buckets for a while.

Bato buckets gave me an idea for an even simpler active hydro system, and really cheap too.

18 gallon tub with recessed lid (like most have)

drill 1" hole in center of lid.

set four 1-gallon regular pots (maybe treated to contain the roots) on each corner of the lid.

pump in bottom of tub with 4-way manifold and drip lines coming up through the 1" hole to each pot.

runoff drains back into tub through the same 1" hole.

additional oxygenation with air pump and stones

:thanks: You pretty much showed us all how the Ebb n Grow thing works....

Did you also order from Dr. Chronic?

Oh yeah, 1 more thing.
A collective up in here in the Bay Area I went to yesterday had about 25 different types of seeds. Short drive and no mailing issues, plus its a family run collective with good people. If you want the name, send me a PM.

Yes I would like that info! I have a good source as well, but only about 10 or so strains.

That sounds like it would work perfectly. Very, very simple.

You tend to run a spotless operation, so you wouldn't have too much trouble, but with such a system you would need to be careful having the nutrient solution drain back to the reservoir and bringing dead leaves and such with it. You want to keep that solution in the dark as much as possible.

On the other hand, you could build it for less than 100 bucks.

Best of all, with the system you describe, if you ran into trouble you could easily hand water the whole thing temporarily.

So many ways to grow, so little time! Damn!!! I love doing this! :smokin:

That's a very good point about keeping trash out of the tub and keeping the solution in the dark. Probably would get all kinds of algae and crap.

Fortunately, I think I could fix those shortcomings with some screen and a simple shade for the runoff. I hadn't even thought of those issues. Thanks doc!

I think your plan is sound.

If I was gonna go bigger, I'd go with a bato bucket system too. I'm surprised they're not more popular here in the US.
