MK-Ultra Hempy - C02 - 1000 Watts

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

 Just finished reading from page 1 to 20. My eyes feel fuzzy... :geek:

First time I encounter the hempy bucket concept and I really want to try it now. I really really liked the multi layered germination cup too, sweet idea there I want to give it a try next time I sprout some seeds. I'm sprouting a bunch of seeds right now (hopefully they sprout..) in dirt. I'm just keeping it simple and hoping I pull through. I've learned much from the Doc and the Sun here. :nicethread: :thanks:

You'll do fine! Keep it simple and let the seeds do what they do.

Thanks for visiting.

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

EWWW, who invited the sausage to the party??? Lame ass male plants trying to get in your girls "flowers".
I have total faith that you acted quick enough man, your dedication is documented well here. My growing mentor absolutely hates femmed seeds, he has had an almost identical situation. I honestly don't know much about starting from seed, but I do know you didn't "stress" anything. It truly sounds like you got regular seeds.

Thanks!

Your mentor sounds exactly like mine. Mine sprouts a dozen or so seeds per plant he wants to grow. He'll cull the males and then choose the healthiest female and grow her.

When he wants seeds---and you need lots of 'em when you grow like that---he chooses the best male and quarantine's it, then pollinates the best female with that. Interestingly, he actually smokes the males to find the one with the best "high" to help him decide.

He recommends against femmed seeds because you don't get what you pay for always. You pay for females, but you often get hermies.....and in my case flat out males. I still haven't heard back from the seed company.

If you have good germination techniques, you can get more than 50% females from regular seeds, making them a more economical choice than femmed seeds.

Femmed seeds gave me a false sense of security....and that was nearly fatal.

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

Well, lucky me!

I've got some replacement plants coming. I have two Casey Jones that have been 2 weeks in bloom that I should get on Friday.

It's a cross between TrainWreck, Thai and NYCD. It's in perlite/coco in a Bato bucket, which is similar to a hempy, in that it has an internal reservoir.

I'm just going to put them right in with the others.....the plants will be bug free, etc.

Everything else is going just fine, the plants continue to bloom and grow. :smokin:

Pics tonite or tomorrow.

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

Grats on the new stock.

Its interesting to hear about the seed experiences. I have always gotten much better than 50% from unfeminized seeds. From the last batches the results were 6/9 female; 3/4 female; 7/8 female. But I actually ordered fem Barney's this time because I wanted 100%. If I get less than that I'll be miffed. It better be 5/5.

One other aspect btw, having to do w/ the hermies. I have some AK that was hermie 3 generations ago. What happened was the grower before me had a light leak in a tent. He let that tent pollenate for seeds. I got seeds from those. I got 5/8 female. And amongst the 18oz they produced I found 4 seeds. 3/4 of those seeds were female and are the AK growing in my room right now. Although I have clones, I gotta think a little hermie thrown in the breed might not be a terrible thing if it tosses out a few seeds every crop without going crazy.

:peace:

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

I would have to disagree that you *often* get hermies with femmed seeds.

If that was the case, we'd be hearing a lot more complaints, and growers wouldn't keep buying femmed seeds as they have.

The great majority of fem seeds do turn out female or they would not be a viable product at the prices charged. I sure wouldn't be interested.

There are just *tons* of fem grows where every plant was female, so we may have to disagree on this one.

I got nothing against reg seeds, but I think you're making an important decision based on incomplete or anecdotal data.

I like reg seeds because then I can make my own F1 hybrids, but I sure liked having 10/10 females on my current grow versus not knowing.

The breeder and the guy who selects the seeds to send can make or break you.

Think of it this way:

If you order 10 regular VK and get 6 females....you're ahead as far as your investment when compared to femmed seeds.

However, if you order 10 femmed and:
1.)the guy packing your order gets confused and sends regular
2.)the fems have 1 or 2 go hermie

You're behind.

I've still got quite a few femmed seeds I can grow, but I've got many, many more regular. I got 103 seeds from a reputable breeder for less money than I paid for 5 femmed seeds from another reputable breeder.

It comes down to a personal choice. Me? I'm pretty miffed that I paid for 10 female seeds but only have 5.

I could have had 5 female seeds by spending half as much on 10 regular seeds.

Still no word from Dr. Chronic. Two emails, very politely written. No response. For my next order, I'm sticking to sponsors.

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

I suspected that was the vendor.

I had a negative experience with that vendor also.

I would be miffed also, but while I would never use that vendor again, I like to look at how things go down the majority of the time, and the great majority of the time, fem seeds turn out female.

But as you say, it's a matter of personal choice.

I may try a 12/12 from seed experiment with regular seeds and see how much longer it takes to finish when you have to reveg the girls after the males show.

You did too, huh? Well, DrChronic won't be getting my business again, unless they make this right.

Why would you re-veg after sexing if you go 12/12?

Looking good Doc....except for the males....nice back up strain Casey Jones!:slide:

Thanks bro! I love Trainwreck, I haven't had Thai since the early 80's and I don't understand the popularity of Diesel.....but everyone seems to like Casey Jones....so what the hell! I'll grow it.

I'm going to have to do some homework, however, These two plants are in Coco/perlite.

Does anyone know what ph I need, etc.?

yep, there's nothing like waiting for autos that don't auto, and then grow 3 times the size they're supposed to.

Why would you re-veg after sexing if you go 12/12?

To grow them bigger before flipping them again. You don't get much yield from a 12/12 grow unless you grow a good number of plants, so unless it was a 12/12 SOG with at least 10 plants, it would be better for me to reveg 3 or 4 females and grow them out a bit before flipping them.

I'm not familiar with casey jones, will check it out.

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

Day 16

My garden is temporarily sparse. I can't wait to get my two Casey Jones on Friday.

I've got a slight bit of light burn on one plant....it grew a little faster than expected overnight.

The clone is flowering, but is only 4 inches tall.....I'll be lucky to get 3 grams from her, but the dang thing is healthy!

this will just be like a 12/12 from seed man.. I almost laughed when you said 3 grams... they will continue to grow in size and bud up the whole time.. Just check out some 12/12 from seed grows and you will see what im talkin about

I hope you're right!
12/12 from clone is a little different than 12/12 from seed, but it's a great little experiment. I'm also using time released nutes only on this clone.
Thanks for stopping by.

You should check out my lilbit in my latest grow, I put her in 12/12 at 2 1/2 weeks from poking her head out of the soil from seed.

She is currently over 2' in one direction and 2' in the other as a top canopy, with over 10 solid top cola budding sites and she popped out Jan 22nd. I will be able to post an updated picture of her tonight maybe if the camera shows up today. The size they start out as isn't as important as how healthy they are growing at that size. It might the LSTing while she is stretching that helps fill them so fast versus just letting them grow.

I think it depends on how much of the "Weed" in them you let out, if you don't do anything to stunt them or pause their growth they will try and impress you with their growth rate...they are called weeds for a reason. :smokin:

I think it is magic how fast they grow sometimes....at least I do if I smoke alot.

:peace: brother.

Re: MK-Ultra Hempy, C02, 1000watts.

plants are looking great doc

I called our city water dept and asked, and they said that we have chloramine in our tap water, not chlorine.

chloramine is a *bitch* to remove. You need a fairly large carbon filter and the rate of flow has to be slow in order for it to work.

the "hose-end" filters won't remove it.

So, for soil grows, I'm going to have to stick to RO.

Now, how bout hempy? Do we want to encourage microbial growth in hempies or should they be treated like hydro in that regards?

If I could use tap water with hempies, that would be another nail in the coffin for soil.
