Medical Grow

You're an inspiration Doc! I was wondering if you'll be making any simpson oil at all and what strain you might use for it if you do? I'm just learning about it and wanted to give it a try when I do my grow.

I have no plans for making oil yet. Perhaps in the future. Once I get my grow room dialed in I'll give that sort of thing some attention. I need to figure out which "house" strains I'll be growing and make a 12/12 from seed run or two to figure out the optimal plant density. I've got too many plants on this grow....they'll still turn out well, but not as good if I had about 6 fewer plants.

12/12 from seed and I might be able to grow a few more....the clones just spread out too much.

I am very happy with the grow so far......the OC+ has proven itself once again, and while the organic soil blend is growing some really frosty, delicious looking buds, I've had to supplement it as the leaves were beginning to change color too soon.

In a week or two, I'll go ahead and let the fall colors begin!

At this point, all my attention is focused on the soil blends and how to get it so I can use the well water.

My next soil will probably be Power Flower on the bottom, Roots Organic on top, with half a charge of OC+ on top of the Power Flower and some sulfur mixed in to lower pH.

The soil will be amended with Gypsum, perlite, Epsom salt and a pinch of Borax.

I "think" that will be a winner, as it's a combination of the two soils I'm using right now....minus the coco blend, which I don't like.

Simply Lovely Doc,

Once again you have brought tears of envy, joy, and enthusiasm to my eyes. I only HOPE to get half as dialed in to growing as you are. Keep up the exceptional work bruh! Oh quick question: In the 8th pic from the top, i noticed u have what looks like a blanket wrapped around the base of 2 pots. What is it and why are you using it? Just wanted to know because i am trying to emulate you as much as possible.

those are fabric pots. They are supposed to air prune the roots. I am neutral towards them....

One of my mini hempys ( just my luck it's the one with the plants doing the best) has 2 plants in it. I accidently dropped another seed in it. I thought i caught it and took it out. Turns out it was a prill of the oc+. grrrrrrrrr..being that the two best looking plants are 1. bagseed & 2. in the same mini hempy. I'm just going to let them ride out together. they are only 3" tall at the moment and 16 days old with nice lush growth. Any suggestions?

Oh ok...thanks. Doc, i read in another journal (cna't remember who's) but you had some alterantives for the hygrozyme. Do you mind re-naming the products? i'm sure one of them was Pond-zyme or some similar to that. Thanks in advance!!

I'll save Doc some work because I cut and pasted that info. I'm sorry I don't recall who the OP was.

"Instead of the Hygrozyme, save even more money and use one of the enzyme products marketed towards pond hobbyists. Also sold hardware stores, pet stores and online.

Some common ones are Pond-Zyme plus, Nice n' Easy Pond & Lake restoration, Fountain Cleaner."

As an aside I was at a Petsmart the other day, they have these.

Preciat4echa BlueDawg! Thanks bruh!!! I knew i shudda copied and pasted it when i saw it as i usually do. Think i clicked another link and *poof* gone! lol.

I often want to comment on your thread but I am at a loss for words. Garden looks great but "DUH!", you know your sh*t! Great to see that your hypotheses for growing are holding up in practice.

Thanks for your advice in the past an I hope I can leverage your help in the future. +rep man! EDIT: as soon as the site will let me. Gotta spread it around.

Thanks Munki!
I feel exactly the same way about you....

Here's my secret to growing success:

1.)temperatures 75-82 with lights on........65-70 with lights off
2.)RH 50-60%
3.)Sensible nutrients. Run away from silly cannabis nutrients...or, if you must use them, don't get carried away
4.)Good quality water....tap water is often best.
5.)soil or perlite.

Anyone who stays within those boundaries will have a nice looking grow.

I've used less than 32.50 worth of nutes this grow.....and that only because I had to buy some Botanicare Cal/mag to add to the RO.....the well water was just too alkaline.

If I was able to use the well water, I would have spent zero on nutes. I've still got more than half a jar of OC+ left over from my last grow. Should last until summer.

Well, that IS a co-incidence! Do you happen to know how that Lucky Queen was grown? Mine got really nice after a cure....it's truly a top shelf strain, but having 1 plant out of 23 make it just isn't worth it.

I believe it was grown in soil with Osmocote+.

but yeah, based on your experience and subsequent communications with that seed bank, I don't blame you.

I've still got some Santa Maria beans that I'm going to try....keeping my fingers crossed. If it turns out as good as the Lucky Queen, I'll have some special smoke.

Maybe those will be fresher and more viable seeds.

Encore? Well, how I about I get this grow dialed in first. I've switched to RO water with cal/mag added. The well water is just getting completely obtuse.....just not usable, so I got the plants back online by making it raid. I kicked up the humidity to 80 for a couple hours....then put 50 gallons of RO through 25 gallons of soil.....washed out all the bicarbonates and the plants smiled and are very happy!

50 gal of RO? so you have a dedicated RO system?

We're gonna set up a rainwater collection system and pray that with the rains the well water gets better.

I think that's the best option in the long run for both smaller and larger grows, where feasible.

Next grow will top this one, for sure.

that would be consistent with your history ;)

Well I'll be darned! You got some Lucky Queen grown in Osmocote +?

Taste was smooth even without a flush I'll bet. Mine certainly was.

Yes, we have a designated RO unit now and my new AC makes about a gallon a day too.

So, nowadays, when I water I simulate a monsoon rain. I kick up the humidity for a few hours, then flood the plant....like doing a flush. Then we drop the humidity back down till next time.

The plants respond to this VERY well. You can see the leaves improve in a couple hours.

I really want to do this with actual rainwater!

Damn! Growing is so much fun!

Yep, go figure, OC+ gets around ;).

It's very smooth smoke with very good flavor, so I would have to agree that flushing isn't at all necessary with this method.

Oh man, I bet they will just perk up and start singing if you do that with rainwater ;).

Mine love to be foliar sprayed with it.

Tonite I watered tall group as follows:

30 gallons of RO Comes to about 2 gallons per plant
30tsp molasses
1 quart of compost tea
240 ml Botanicare Cal/mag
1/2 tsp of my weekly micro mix. (put in the pots, not the water.)

I friggin hate using the Cal/Mag! I want to bad to use tap water, but this well is way off the charts. I'm sure the city would condemn it if they knew. I sure hope it gets better with the rains.

Tomorrow, I'll foliar spray them with compost tea.

I really love watering this way, because it flushes them each time you water, and with the tea and the molasses the micro herd gets built right back up.

Considering we're at day 29 of flower, I'm very happy with the bud development.

The OG's and Jack's tend to go about 70 days.
The ATF and Blackberry's tend to go about 60 days

So, I'm right about the halfway point for the early ones. They should pack on weight in the next 2 weeks!

I'll start the Snowstorm next watering.

Can't wait to see how all this turns out! I've been following closely

I wish i could send you some of our tap water to use! :p Foliar feeding seems like a great way to give them some water, I was doing it to my plants when they were growing up but I was worried to do it now that they're flowering. I take it it is still ok to water them this way then? I'm about a week and a half behind you on flowering

Thanks for everything Doc! :thumb:

Hey bro! Thanks for stopping by.

Foliar feeding isn't really watering.....it's feeding. The less you do it, the better, due to the possibility of getting powdery mildew, etc.

Compost teas actually inhibit PM and other leaf maladies, so they are very different than spraying water on the plant.

I follow a foliar feeding with a good spray of Serenade the next day.

Hey Doc,
I'm climbing back in the saddle with a new grow. I haven't grown since the spring. I want to try your hempy bucket method with osmocote but have never done it before. I purchased 10 Northern Lights seeds and the order came with 5 free 'mystery' seeds. I'm germing the NL seeds in rockwool for hydro and the 5 mystery seeds in soil, all popped and are showing the first set of leaves (proud papa).

What should I do next to prepare the soil crop for hempy? Do you have any good resources to which you can refer me?

Thanks,
