Mechanic's Log: WW, AK-47, FFof Soil, Screw-In LEDs

So.....

If you’ve noticed, I never post the temps or humidity of my tents.... but I like when others do. Even if it’s the mostly same all the time. Haha.

One reason I think I decided not to post it is because I don’t make any attempt control humidity other than increasing my exhaust fan speed if the humidity gets too high in flower.

And this is why... since I don’t vent to the outside world, id have to raise or lower my whole house humidity to make any significant change to my tent. I know there are ways to increase humidity very easily and some of them even free but I figured it’s not worth the headache. And lowering is humidity not so easy so like I said I just increase my exhaust fan speed if it ever does climb up.

My temps are usually the same. 75f to 79f lights on temp and usually between 35% and 50% humidity with lights on.

Anyway, I think I’m going to start posting it just because. I have my gauge in there now so I’ll just keep it up from now on. Unless it gets in the way again. Haha

Sometimes leaves will tend to cup or curl down due to root problems, , but sometimes the curl upwards too, like the poor plant below (this was caused by poor drainage and plant was overwatered, leading to a pretty severe case of root problems):

Thank you... that’s interesting, that baby does look pretty unhappy. I doubt mine will get that bad but I could be shooting myself in the foot right now. Haha.

This same type of leaf curl has happened at some point during my last 2 grows tho so hopefully I can just keep calling it light stress. Haha.

Highya Mechanic,

When my leaves start curling like that (not that bad), I put epsoms salt for the magnesium. Seems to make the curl go away. Had to do it twice this summer. May be a different cause and affect. Cheers

Thank you @Bode

I should have thought about that... I neglected these ladies while I was focused on my flowering plants and I only gave them a couple doses of cal mag the entire time they were in solo cups. I’ve been meaning to buy Epsom salts for awhile now, if I had some id would definitely try that. When I water next I will make sure to use cal mag, I usually do every watering but I guess I got lazy. And I will pick some of those salts up if I can ever remember when I at the store.

Is there a specific type you like to use... or anyone else here for that matter.? Dosing suggestions also please.?

Anyway I’m still hoping it’s light stress but I need all my bases covered. I should not jump to conclusions too quickly. Haha. I’ll monitor the problem and maybe raise the lights to see if the problem can resolve itself before my next watering, where I will use at least cal mag if I don’t pick up any Epsom salts.

Thanks again.

So I got to thinking...

I should say after @Backlipslide and @Bode got me thinking... I came to a few conclusions.

These babies just plain weren’t ready for more light yet. Haha. Duh. I should have upped the wattage a bit slower, Aka # of bulbs.

After being in solo cups for so long, void of the necessary building blocks to actually photosynthesize the extra amount of light I gave them, and while they are rooting all over again (basically). It’s no reason they are pissed.

I automatically thought I was using the proper amount of light with 14 bulbs at first because honestly, that’s how much they should be able to handle at that size, but duh I still have a solo cup root ball trying to grow roots and I neglected to feed much during their stay away from the tents. Haha. They need less light till they get more food, the roots develop a bit, and the plant starts to grow again.

I have to slow down and think sometimes... thanks for your help guys.

Here’s some pics. I went down to 6 bulbs for now and re arranged the ladies. We will see how they react.

It’ll bounce back after a good couple feedings. Smoke a bowl brother! :thumb: :bong:

When ever I transplant I always like to give a good shot of water till I see run off, to help pull those roots down, giving the root ball a better chance to release from the ball and expand out.

They will be fine bro!

Thank you... I did the same thing I think. I saturate the entire pot when transplanting, idk if that’s what your suppose to do or not, I just figure that bagged soil needs fresh water after being in bag for who knows how long.

And I also thought the ppms of the soil would be crazy high if it wasn’t “charged” with fresh water. Idk how any of that works. Haha.

I would think planting into soil that’s halfway dry already would help the roots go searching for water and ultimately grow the root ball faster. I’ve done too much rambling tonight. I usually don’t have time for this. Haha.

I hear that some peeps out there gently break up the root ball some whenever transplanting. I have yet to try that one.

Hello community...

It’s day 4 after transplant to 1 gallon pots.
I’m just going to say..... WW#1 round 2 and whatever day after transplant it is from now on.

Let’s try this....

WW#1-Round 2 Day #4.

The tent temp is at 75f and humidity at 33%.
Lights are on 18/6 schedule.
Plants are neglected White Widow clones I rooted over 10 weeks ago.
:thumb:

So I went down to 6 bulbs again since I’m home from work now. (screwed 2 bulbs back in last night before bed)

I just want to see what the Widows do. Haha. I cant really say they look better than yesterday... super slightly if anything. Haha.

So there’s not much to report but I do have some solo pics of each plant.

Hey Mechanic, congrats on your harvests! The clones are coming along well too. I'm with you on the up potting question. I believe in bringing them up incrementally for the big organized :cheesygrinsmiley: root development.

Thank you @stoneotter

Im extremely grateful I was able to get thru it all without any problems. I know some peeps have had a bit of bad luck this year.

I have the dry weight of the AK from the led tent and the WW#2 also. :cheesygrinsmiley: (Dried a little fast the WW#2 did, don’t worry tho.)
I will put the numbers up later. I still need to take some decent pics and what not.

The clones should take off soon. I can’t wait to water them “old ladies”.

And, like most things, it’s to each their own with up potting right, some people make it work going straight into a big pot.

Personally I just love having control over my roots in the way that @Emilya describes in her watering post.

WW#1-Round 2 Day #5.

Forecast.... it’s about 77 degrees and not too sunny today, only 8 out of 22 on the SIL index. Humidity is hovering around 36 moisture units.

So enough of that jargon, haha, the Widows are looking slightly better today. Their pots are getting lighter, so by tomorrow or Friday they will get a drink.... I would think. :p

Here’s some pics.

Ok I feel like I have been Mis understood here.

If you look at my grows, you will clearly see I start in a small container, something similar to a solo cup.

Then transplant to a bigger container.

Then into my 5 gal pots.

Like I said before, I’m all for gradually up potting.

But in your circumstance, of having a plant in a solo cup for 10+ weeks. Lol 30” tall plants in a pot the width no wider then a paint can

In my opinion, those plants are, far ready for a 5 gal pot. Regardless of wanting to control your root system.

They would have thanked you is all I was saying.

But like you said, to each their own! :thumb:
