McLoadie's Third Grow Journal

Yes right inside the bucket.

Drainage holes will allow air to get to the bottom. A subair-pot.

Very flexible. You can add an elbow and extension to the bottom and use it as an adjustable height reservoir. You might need to add an overflow air hole. You cut a tube just short of the top of the colander. As you bend the elbow, you can adjust how much water you want to sit in the bucket, or all the way down to drain.

That's how I used the HD buckets, but minus the colander. I just had that brain storm after I stopped using them.
I would keep it in the up position and the water with very little runoff, let it set 15-30mins and turn them down to drain what didn't get soaked up.
I have posted this several times, but I think it's worth passing on again.

Once again excuse me for buttin in Mcloadie

I am so stumped by this grow, it just didn't grow like it usually does. I have pretty high temps....and rH, but it never hurt before I even had meters to know the difference. I have some ideas what happened, I used the sns 604a during veg, which is a root stimulant, i'm wondering if the roots grew to the outside of the pots in such quantity that with the air pruning it's giving a negative affect. I was taught that we always try to avoid air pruning, with these smart pots there's no way to avoid it. I like the idea of nursery pots, even if the roots do fill the pot they wouldn't necessarily be dying all the time like they do in my smart pots. With the smart pots I can't water the perimeter of the pots like I am trained, if I do the water runs out the fabric.
Its funny you say that bro I was just wondering the same thing with my girls, can they still get root bound if they're really big plants in 6-7 gallon air pots?I can hardly stick my finger into the promix.I think I ll be switching to nursery pots myself next round. Reps for the beautiful afgan brother looks delicious:)

A vigorous plant will go root bound no matter size of pot. Root bound can work in your favor come flower time , low stress makes them trip easier.

Oh no hash hound, you are welcome on my journal, and we always benefit from your experience and expertise as well as jon and all the members. This is a free speech journal, and I appreciate everyones honesty! Good ideas!, Yeah, I'm just trippin on the air pruning, and the way an air pot works it's absolutely unnatural the way it dries out, I would rather be watering around the perimeter in a root bound situation than a bunch of roots with the ends burned off, I am always just hoping water gets to the perimeter simply by osmosis...then I'm just encouraging growth where it's goin to die anyhow!

Not a very good photo, this is afghan kush, I figured I better take it, it was turning quickly and it has 10-15% amber. This is the most amber plant I've ever harvested, I usually try to take em at the first sign of amber.....just me. Now, curso, bid....thank you sooooo much for the advice on rinsing the buds, I did employ my okie skills.....I just washed it off under room temp water....in the sink, under the faucet. What a difference, I got a chance to pick hair off it, which became more visible when the bud is wet. Oh, it looks cleaner, better color...........but the smell changed INCREDIBLY! There was a 100% change in the smell! This plant only produced what will be a little over an ounce dry, but this is 100% top shelf product, it's very exotic smelling, and the only thing trimmed off was the material that wasn't completely covered with trichs. I am completely satisfied with this plant.............extreme quality, this is my personal smoke and only family will get the finished product. Thanks everyone, we'll get through the negative aspects of this grow and do better next time, I'm gonna be lucky to get 6 oz. from this run, but it's all excellent with the exception of the b10 mexikush which is simply a poor pheno.

That's my trash tin in the pic, all that goes to the desert, there's a cardboard box on the table that all the good trim goes on, it will be dried and frozen for later use.

good weed Mc and Young Miss Loadie!:circle-of-love:
Nice Harvest too!

Looking good MC, nice harvest.

In spite of trying new methods which counter your natural style, how do you think the heavy defol affected your harvest (bud count/ size/ density/ potency) this time around?

And congratulations on a successful harvest!

I think it promotes density, I had such mixed results with plant health this run it's really hard to say! Thank you!

Congrats Mcloadie! This is the plant that i've always admired cause she's just soooo frosty.:yummy:
Rinsing buds sounds interesting- going to try that on mine. Looking forward to hearing a smoke report from her.:thumb::peace:

MC explain the bud rinse. I went back a ways and couldn't find it.

quick question bro, I bought dolomitic lime which is granular, small little pepples, the supesoil recipe Im using calls for powdered dolomite lime, I think they are the same thing just ones granular and ones powdered right? I attempted to grind the dolomitic lime up in my magic bullet but the motor burn out halway through so its half granular and half powder, will it work?
