Mars-Hydro LED Grow Light Discussion

High ThaiLEDGrower, the chip of the light is 5watt now, but the coverage is still only 2.2'x2.2' at 24inches hight, so one 48x5w might be a little not enough for your veg space. Right now, we still don't have 48x5w in most warehouse, so please order two of the 48x3w lights,:high-five: Will be enough.
Sounds good so the reflector will be the choice for my veg tent.

I was thinking about 2x 48x3W for a 0,8mx0,8m tent but since they will be stronger only 1x 48x5W might be enough? I want to keep up to 3 bonsai mothers and grow not more than 6 clones or seedlings in there at the same time.

If I'd get 2x 48x3W, 1 light would be on 18/6 all time for the mothers and the other one would be added only when seedlings or clones are grown. Would that be enough light?

I know about the veg/bloom switch but can they also be customized to be only veg spectrum, no bloom spectrum and if yes should I do that? Or would full spectrum be better for mothers anyway?
We cannot customize the reflector light at the moment, please understand, :Namaste:

High Realcitygsc, better use 4 1600w lights there, especially you are using these lights mostly for bloom. :thumb: Email me when you need these lights. :high-five:
Hello. I have been reading up on the Mars 2 1600 LED's. I have a 8x9 area and was wondering if 3 1600's or 4 1200's would be better? Currently using 4 1000 watt hps hoods. This room is strictly used for bloom. Any suggestions?

Cree chips are much brighter than Epistars, so we don't think the 5watt one is neccessary :circle-of-love: You will be amazed when you see these lights, lol :thumb:

Nice, but do 5w ones please, maybe i would try 10w ones.....just for test, we have a prototype of 10w LED light here, but nobody able to finish connections .-))))

Hmm... DrVoo, I don't think it will be workable in a short time. You know the chips are expensive, and when we cannot meet their MOQ, the chips can be more expensive. But who knows how it will turn out in the future. :volcano-smiley: Maybe we will delevop 5watt ones in the future if there are enough demands. :cheesygrinsmiley:
But I would recommend everyone try our 3watt ones first, lol, Only see the real lights in action do we know if they are good enough or not. lol :circle-of-love:

High Celt, it depends on which light you will customize and also where you live. :cheesygrinsmiley:
Good morning Sara

Just curious, the Mars II can be customized. How much extra is it to customized the lights?

I received my Mars II 900w two days ago. So far I'm very impressed! I'd like to share a mini review..

PACKAGING
Mars Hydro uses a heavy cardboard box for shipping, certainly a requirement. Very nice to see thick cardboard corner protectors in use. These things are tough, very hard to bend or crush them without tools. As you can see from pic, box corners saw abuse during shipping; the corner protectors help in an awesome way.. keep using these Mars Hydro!

Box was sealed with three strips of thin shipping tape. Thin shipping tape is easily snapped at the points shown during shipping, which allows the box top (or bottom) to "flap" away from the box. The center strip was still in tact down the flap which kept it closed, but heavier tape would keep the flaps secured to the box at the points shown.

FIT & FINISH
The unit is nicely finished in a powder coat enamel, a very durable and elegant finish. Anchors are heavy duty. Thick metal and Plexiglas are used. An aluminium heatsink spans the entire panel, note the tall heatsink fins. Their "rippled" surface area and height increase overall surface area. The fans then force air across that surface area, and warm air is exhausted out the sides. Nicely done Mars Hydro:

The unit is solid and heavy, a good thing. The anchor points are heavy brass and seem to handle the load quite well. Worth noting, the screws that hold the top and bottom together are also load bearing, they hold the unit together pretty much. If those screws suddenly disappeared while unit was suspended, the bottom portion with light panel panel would come crashing down. In short, use of quality screws here is important. Mars Hydro has it covered. I suggest insuring all screws are tight prior to hanging.

SUGGESTED DESIGN CHANGE
The anchor points are oddly configured. As a result, the unit hangs in a diamond pattern instead of a square pattern:

It's certainly possible to square the unit using weight of power cord or by other means; but moving the anchor points to the corners would remedy this issue. Unit would be better supported and easier to hang and "square" if anchor points were moved to corners:

Mars Hydro supplies four nice wire hangers, and one cheap aluminium D-Ring. The wire hangers are great.. they'll support the product for life. They skimped on the D-Ring though. I spent a few dollars and grabbed a steel D-Ring. While the supplied D-Ring may work, I feel better having a more solid D-Ring in place. I suggest Mars Hydro supply a better quality D-Ring. Light aluminium on left, steel on right:

I can't comment on performance as of yet, most of you seem impressed. Okay gotta run!

Sara... "Sixs'" review reminded me of something I always wondered about myself.. That is, Where the hangers on the unit are mounted? Was that a definite design, engineering decision? Cause otherwise, I agree with Six... I'd like them at the corners!

Personally Six , I use a light chain from a hanger to a hangar and then use my light hangars to the center of the chain. Mars hangars I also have attached as a safety... But I want all the adjustability, headroom I can get and also being able to change light ANGLE... sometimes I tilt it to shine more light into a corner, etc..

Apeshot, Trust me... It is EZ Peazy! Few screws, cover comes off, fans are entirely accessible.. Very, very good chance something is just touching the blades that needs to be moved. Even if you have to replace a fan.. It is toooo EZ, anyone could do it. Much faster than any other way of having anything serviced...

Sara is giving you good info...

P.S. I had a little paper store tag from the chains I was using to hang mine go into one of the fan vents and cause a racket... Luckily I just had to pull it out. I'm also using the Mars 1200 (reflector 96*3 in veg)

Agree 100%. All you need is a Philips head screwdriver. :peace:

16-18 ga Jack chain for the win! I've done the same thing, then I can pick which link I loop thru to angle it if wanted.....

SERIOUS ISSUES NEED ADDRESSED ASAP PLEASE.

I Purchased (2) 144x5 Reflector Series Lights and they both have issues.

I made a video, but to sum it up. The panels are drooping from both of my lights and on one of my light fixtures the hanger is broken.

I went back to the Fox Farms instead of the Humboldt County line (except for the Snow Storm Ultra :) ) I feel like Fox Farms did as good or better and it was easier. Making up a gal at a time of the Humboldt I feel like a mad scientist. 2.5 ml of this 5ml of that 30ml of something else. If I noticed a huge difference, no big deal. I didn't.

The FF is just easier. :peace:
After reading all the instructions I still haven't used it and you stated exactly why....:circle-of-love:
We actually have the bar leds, we don't sell them on our website, but we have them, for growing some vegetables. You can email Lucy for more information. :Namaste:
I would love to know more too... Can't you post up the info on this thread... I bet there's quite a few folks that would be interested....:circle-of-love:
For anyone interested I have started a new journal. Supergroomer Goes Big. Feel free to come and visit. :peace:
I'm in....:circle-of-love:

Was planning on doing same thing!! CRAZY! But I'm doing it to my 144x5's so I can hang light closer to roof of tent. Will upload pics when that time comes....

I haven't opened my two up yet, but I'm guessing the mount just has a loose nut?

Both of my fixtures had the same issue with the reflectors, they were even missing some of the little plastic studs. We'll have to see what they come up with as a solution......

Sara/Mars, I keep hearing about great customer service, let's see it!
