Mars-Hydro LED Grow Light Discussion

You more than welcome to check out my journal and all my weights are documented and which light they were grown under. I honestly have no idea to the answer but I have 48x3w... 96x3w.... and Mars II 400 and every harvest has the light it was under listed and the amount harvested so you can go figure gram/watt on several harvest if it matters to ya that much. I love the smoke my Top Leds have grown. They are gooey and do exactly what they are supposed to do. Other than that I don't know what to tell ya... I'm sure Sara would like the off topic stuff to go to an off topic journal but do as you see fit.... Just sayin'.........:circle-of-love:

The only way that handy is going to get a real answer to his question is by setting up his new lights and comparing how they do to the HID lights he has been using in HIS conditions. Lots of people have done this. Almost all of them have been very pleased. Many of them are growers with years of experience growing top quality produce. If he decides he doesn't like them he will put them up for sale. He is a little nervous now, but he shouldn't be. These lights work well. Once he shakes off the jitters and gets going he will be more relaxed and hopefully share his observations with us.

Handy, if you look at the bottom of one of Denise' posts there is text in green letters in a bigger font. Those are links to her journals. Just click on one and it will take you right there. The same works for other people who have green text under their posts like that. You can go look and see who is responding to you.

Hey mate just out of curiosity what are the sizes of your rooms that have your LED's in and the size of your room with the HID? Also what kind of A/C are you using? Stand alone units, wallbuilt units or commercial?

No it is very simple grams per a watt is the best way to compare. fans and air conditioning are very small factors. the only heat you save is from the ballast. If you use 1000 watts of power your going to put off a min of 3750 btu's. If did a little research you would know this. I have 2200 watts of leds in one room and 2400 watts of hps both rooms use same model ac unit and the same size. The truth is the hps room is 3 degrees cooler. I don't have my ballast in the room with the lights. par, lumens who cares lol. The only thing you need to worry about is weight per gram and quality. if you can get a gram a watt then only thing holding you back on quality is the strain. Not the performance of your light if you get a gram a watt. If the spectrum or par is better than hps than it should be easier to reach the gram a watt. Most LED sale people like to say you only need 2/3 the wattage of a hid to room the same weight and quality.just common sense guys. doesn't anyone care about the money shelled out verse product amount.
Now lets talk about this whole led last 50,000 hours thing. I will agree that leds last a very long time! What for it. lol But you do loose your spectrum of light as you use them. now if either of you have a lumen or a par meter take a reading now and check it in a year then two then three and report back if we are around. For some reason this never gets talked about. probably because led are still new and people are still learning about them. Again you can learn this with a little research.
So if top led has a good spectrum for growing and you know the basics it should be hard to get a gram a watt. Let me ask you guy another question. Why do people stuck on wanting the biggest light like the 1200 marsII. If you look at the light close you will motice that on the larger watt lights the led bulbs are placed closer together. so all that extra light doesn't get spread out like if you had more smaller light. I you read the bible he tells you this. example 3 600watt light will produce more than two 1000 watt lights. Simply because your spreading the light more even over your plants. This is just my take on it.

LET ME FINISH WITH ALL I WANT TO KNOW IS WHAT IS YOUR GRAMS PER A WATT. AND IF YOU CAN'T ANSWER THE QUESTION AT HAND THEN THERE IS NO NEED TO COMMENT ON MY QUESTION. NOW IF YOU ANSWER THE GRAMS PER A WATT QUESTION AND WANT TO ADD TO IT BE MY GUEST. BUT IF YOUR NOT GOING TO ANSWER MY QUESTION THERE IS NO NEED TO ADD COMMENTS IT DOESN'T MAKE YOU LOOK SMARTER TRUST ME.

think of it this way: A guy ask what is the gas mileage do you get if you have a focus? Then people reply: there other factors like what kind of tires was driving up hill or down hill? was the road rough? What octane gas does he use? and never report there mile per gallon of gas. Would you think they are trying to be helpful or just feed there egos. Because if they had a focus they would know that everything they stated won't effect the gas mileage but a mile or two a gallon at most. And all the guy wan to know how many mile a gallon people was getting.

I thought that was it for this place? Hmm. Why not just stick around? There are some really wonderful people and growers here. Many actually know what they are talking about.

I believe you had the great karma to find most of those people in this journal for Top LED Grow Light.

I've learned more from these people about growing pot than everything I've ever learned anywhere else. That says quite a bit.

If you do a search on the individuals journal at the top for "harvest" it should bring up all of the harvest amounts both wet and then after being dried and cured...or maybe not cured, but definitely dry weights are given in all Dennise's grows. Either way you cut it, after you pay off your lights and growing media stuff, the price per gram is going to exponentially lower than if you were to go buy it by the ounce or gram, for that matter. It will take time to recoup the upfront costs, while at the same time will be much lower once that pays itself off.

In the longrun, LEDs are going to cost less per gram to grow simply based on my eyes in seeing what people are producing under LED.

Stick around, join in. Really, handy...hang out. Relax

Thanks king I have 100 x 3 and a 700 marsII myself just at week two. I was just hoping for simple answers from the best they got from led. thanks again for the help. I took a look, WOW I guess her end results are in the 1000s of post. I will never know I don't have that kind of free time. I have a job and life.

I honestly don't think you mean to come across as such a dick but you do. I'm thrilled you have a life and contrary to what you may think so do I but 420 is a very good part of that and so are a lot of the people here so if you don't mind please don't belittle that. My time spent here has been very productive and beneficial as my 300 + page journals conclude.....Have a nice life Sir.....:circle-of-love:

From mine and other growers I follow on 420 some where btw .5 and .7 grams a watt is what I have seen. Please... let this answer your question and go live your life.........:circle-of-love:

Jeez, I am starting to feel anything I say will be taken wrong by somebody and I will be the subject of attack. I'm sorry but my PTSD makes it difficult to watch what is going on in some of these threads on 420 and it makes me want to stay away and not read any posts just so it keeps my emotions in check. So if you would, have mercy on me as a newbie and one that only wants to meet people that have the same interest in growing God's medicine and enjoy their online company. Not to mention what I have learned here and what I hope to learn. I have many interests in other things and would like to stay on 420, but it is easy to "scare" me away mainly due to PTSD. If you don't have it, just be thankful. I always make mistakes. I always say strange things. That's pretty much due to my strokes. I have to write down to eat lunch because of the stroke I never feel hungry, another reason for my medicine. I need an alarm to take my handful of pills four times a day. I have a notebook that I write things in just to get through a day with my short-term memory issues. Being 64 doesn't help either. But the seriousness some people display here makes me extremely uncomfortable. I have not done a journal in my two grows since joining 420 because of the seemingly confrontational attitude many people have that I have noticed. As I said, I say things wrong all the time. Friends and family just laugh when strange things come out of my mouth. Here, I don't think I will have that luxury. So in advance of my many errors to come, I beg your pardon and ask for your understanding and forgiveness.

Hey all, looks like some someone farted in the room, I thought I could clear the air an the whole top-self thing for all you who don't understand it. It is a huge "faux pas" if used loosely, because it is simply a dishonesty.

Top-shelf is a industry term for the best of the best, which was a adopted from the liquor marketers that feature the very best quality items on the top-shelf of display cases. As you can imagine bottom-shelf is also a term for the low-grade yet usable items.

The letter scale (A B C) is product binning, the categorizing of finished products based on their over all quality. All growers produce varying grades of bud with in every single harvest. A grade is reserved for the top of the top colas which accounts for no more the 15-20% of any harvest. B grade are the nugs that are still from the main colas but aren't from the tops and lack the superior crowning (and yes it matters). C grade is all other marketable buds (what you would find in most dispensaries mark as A). All the rest is called larf and is either used for hash or edibles and sometimes pre-rolled.

The fact of the matter is most people don't have A+ Top shelf buds. New growers are not going to magically be able to grow A+ top shelf buds. The same is true with any craft, it will be years and dozens of grows before you see anything close to Top shelf.

The above being said, it sure gives you something to reach for in your endeavors, what ever thy may be....

:peacetwo:
I had to reply. I totally agree sort of. If I grow some that I feel is better than I have ever had, I can consider it "my" top shelf. Naturally, as you said, all buds on a plant are not "equal". What I am trying to say "top shelf" is a personal determination and I would only apply that title to one of my grown plants, not one from a dispensary or recreational shop. I'm pretty much a newbie and know hardly anything about my girl. But I am learning and like you said, "it will be years" before I get it right.

Oh you dear sweetheart. Stick around. It seems to be a little testy the last few days. Maybe the heat of summer in the N. Americas, or amping up to vacation time...etc. I have PTSD diagnosed 22 years ago. Dennise has it, also. I'm pretty sure there are several Vietnam veterans here who have it and some from current combat around the globe.

When I first came here I was very skiddish myself. Afraid to say much, to whom, etc. The I settled into a group of about 15 people, a few I've become friends with in personal messages or just here and there. I think we can all pretty mirror what you just said about pretty much everything. Pick your friends, get to know a few people and you will be stronger in this capacity. Stick around. We'll protect you! Try anyway. I'm a brat sometimes, buyer beware! :)

Just me 10 pence, but PAR is the one you should care about. Lumen is an inaccurate way to gauge LED vs HID. LED produced far less lumens than HID, but a lot of those lumens are wasted. It's the PAR value that is important to the plants so this is the one you need to consider when it comes to LED.

When it comes to LED grow lights, forget LUMENS | Dorm Grow Blog

I hope you all have a great day!

And i am still learning about leds so i cant thank you enough for correcting me. sorry for the miss information about lumens. what i ment was that the light life from the leds is longer them the hps from what i have gathered. will be able to know myself once this mars 2 1600 breaks her 50-100k hour life span

I&i

and with previous expierience i know a hps doesnt last more then 2 grow cycles. we toss them after 6 months

One thing all forums have in common. Very few people know how to answer the question but they are glad to ramble on about everything else under the sun. You get one or two people out of 20 or 30 who answer your questions and the rest is a waste.

i feel this is dirrected towards me and im sorry you feel i answered everything around the sun but your question. i spend many hours a day studying and researching im sorry i have lacked in the field you are asking about with that said i shouldnt have responded to your post but i did. with this said

study long, study wrong.

I&i

Edit : i may not look smart but at least i dont look like im trying to come up with a theory off of one factor of many.

i been also want to know the watt per gram. No one here has confirm that top led can produce close to one gram per watt. Its funny how every time someone ask about it we get different answer lol. For some people gram per watt is important. If top led can't produce enough med to last me until the next harvest then i will have to spent also of extra money to buy from the cannabis club. I totally understand where u coming from handyman.

There are so many variables that can effect the grams p/watt count.
Lights in one aspect of them.
Ive been growing on and off for about 18 to 20 years..Not that Im an expert or anything, cause most of my crops varied greatly.
Granted it was all using bag seeds. My First crop was the best one I've ever grown. I eff'd it up really well.
When the first crop hit veg from seedling I switched my nutes to general strength for GH flora series and in that day it was recommended to be 1 tsp per gallon for general strength.
Again...first crop..so I watched my plants they they barely moved for about 2 weeks.
Called my mentor and he said that sounds too strong. So I flushed with just water, and the plants shot up over a foot, foot and a half in 2 days. Eventually That crop finished..and I had to have easily 40 oz's or close to 3 pounds in a 3' by 4' X 6' closet. With my 400 Watt HPS.
I crammed 3/4 of crop into 6 empty chowmain noodle cans. Packed with all my weight pressing the buds into the cans.
That crop lasted over a year. Each crop since has not come close to that weight. The Point of this rambling (besides bragging about my best crop ever), is to say that there are way too many variables in a grow that may or may not increase or decrease the final weight.
One thing I do know is that my plants with the TOPLED has a much smaller internodal length than Ive ever seen. The leaves of at least one is so much thicker and robust than most plants I've grown, granted that may be genetics. Dont know yet.
As my grow continues Ill journal about its looks etc...with pics.

Your safe here. I found so much kindness on this site but there is always the one guy that just has to be "that" guy but as you have obviously noticed they don't usually hang around to long. I knew nothing when I came to this site and the wonderfully kind people from 420 have taught me how to grow some of the best smoke I have ever had and I have been smoking for over 40 years. So that does make it worth putting up with "that" guy ever so often..... Welcome to 420 and happy to have ya around....:circle-of-love:
