Maine 4-Season Greenhouse Grow

There is a cool book called 1491, basically documenting American History before the Europeans really made a mess of it. The Native Americans used fire to keep the forest in check...Europeans said they could drive coaches through them...they also preserved the trees with mast (oak, chestnut, beech, etc) for food...we have old lithographs from 1790 of where I currently live...for miles around all the trees were cut down...it was in vogue..."civilized"...most of America now is shitty secondary forest growth.../end rant/

shite like this fascinates me, i dont know why. I am going to read more. : -)

I agree, once they’re cut the forest never really comes back the way it was.
There is a very cool park in Maine called Baxter State Park..."the Park for the people Maine"......named after a wealthy industrialist who was Maine's governor in the 1920's, he was an pioneering conservationist...100,000 acres of heavily timbered woods was burned and for sale cheap...he bought it and over the next 30 years he bought almost 210,000 acres total...made it a park...people thought he was mad...he said "in 100 years it will be healthy and growing for future generations"...it also happens to include Katahdin, highest peak in Maine and the end of the Adirondack Trail...75% of the Park is in managed forestry and scientific wilderness work...they have "10 Rules" from the day it opened..."wilderness first, recreation second", respect nature, respect others, be safe, be responsible for yourself, etc...common sense from an age not that long ago...no rev's, no paved roads (forever), lights out @ 9pm with rangers walking around telling people to keep it down...as you can tell, I love the place but also the spirit of it...if you want a true Maine experience check it out.

That book is worth reading...it basically says a lot of the Native American "history" taught to all of us was wrong...they have since uncovered new evidence that there were upwards of 30M+ people in both N and S America...war, famine, and disease wiped out 95%+ of them before the Europeans even arrived...and then Europeans went to work...

Been so busy haven't had a chance to regularly visit, Blew... loving all the pics. One day I hope to grow plants half that size. Keeps me inspired.
Hey @MrSauga ...I just caught up on your journal (I accidentally "unsubscribed" from all threads...maybe not a bad thing :)) so I see you are in the 4x4 tent...thought you were doing outdoor...any particular reason you are inside for the summer?...

Canada doesn't go legal until October... I tried several different ways to keep the girls hidden from view but they wanted to keep poking their heads out. So, I had to make a quick investment in some equipment and go inside. It takes a lot of pressure off me worrying about the nosey neighbors. I'm not so sure the girls are happy inside though. They seem to be picking up some brown spots. I left some pics in my journal but not sure if they are that visible.

So as much as I wanted to grow the trees, I probably have to wait til next summer. Gives me some experience inside and out and may do both next year.

Don't worry about spots or small things like that just yet...you just swapped them from one environment to another so rightly they are a little shocked...better also that you don't have to worry either.

GH Update:

Mainly looking at the up and coming plants today since I am in the process of training and trimming the big girls...they look the same as a few days ago...BIG.

Looks like both the Stankberries are females and they are finally realizing they are in big pots so they have decided to take off. The one in her 30-gallon has grown about 8" in a week...she just got topped as well.

The Stankberry in the 45-gallon had a rough transplanting so she is catching up slowly (I am not concerned in the least with 6 weeks of veg ahead of her!)

Onto the autos which are in flower and getting BIG...I wanted to see if it was worth putting autos in 10-gallon pots...so far the answer is yes, because they have lots of height...they will likely bush out in the next 6 weeks...

Cheese XXL auto...she has a tomato cage and is already over it...meaning 40"+ high! They recommended "support" for fat buds, so I figured...tomato cage...for an auto..

Sweet Coffee...she's almost doubled in a week (or so it seems)....

GSC and OG Rolex in the corner (and I was too lazy to crawl in there for close ups...)

And lastly the notorious Dark Devil Auto.

And for those that like BIG trunks....

Thanks for going with the 10 gal bags for the autos'. I've wondered and gone from 3 gal to 5 gal with good response. Your 10's look enormous and I'll bet when your done the bags are filled with roots.

I've learned that 3-gallon soil grows just don't support the autos for the whole run...they putter out in the end which is frustrating. 7-gallon is my new minimum (I don't have any 5's) and I wanted to experiment with 10's...think that is as big as they need ....for now!

I'm going up from the 5's with auto's for sure. I think 7 to 10 . I have some blueberry auto going

Some blueberry auto's I have going now would have been huge had I not topped them. They're already starting to peter out half way through in 5's. I just want to let them express themselves to the best of their abilities. Bigger Pots For Me. and bigger buds

Garden looking Good Blew , I just got back from checking mine and noticed that my autos are in smaller pots than the photos , maybe 3 gals. i am not sure it don't say and if so the photos are in 5s now i will have to find out for sure (don't want to small of ones ) from what ya'll are saying . No pics. but that one bitchin siberian Haze just don't want to take off, the nova flora should be here tomorrow and will be about the right time for feeding . My worms should be at the PO now and going in a few to get em LOL can't wait never seen 500 at one time !! also got a PH meter coming soon , getting my shit together a little at a time ! ;)

Isn't it frustrating to see them just decline in vitality? Bigger pots give them that little extra fuel in the tank...

I have some 8s that I really like. Think I am going to buy more. I used an 8 gallon for my main lined white widow

More roots, bigger shoots!!

I heard rumors of that but even now the weather says high of 75...I think this front (which is bringing an inch of lovely rain to us) is pushing it away from me...even if it was 90F I would leave the GH as is...the air moves and the plants breath and they are fine...I would make sure they weren't overly thirsty, but they routinely hit 100F (at peak on sunny days) and are fine. The ones up there now have spent their entire life in a temp range of 50-95F...and they seem to love it. I've seen lot of talk here about optimum temps...I think all plants expect a range since that is what happens in nature, thus part of their DNA...

But remember to hydrate and stay in the shade if you are getting hit with that wave...

Good information thanks. Ill become a plant this weekend - ill sit in a big pot, people can pour water on me and feed me.
