Magnus8's Coco Coir Big Bud & Pineapple Express, First Grow Ever! Grow Journal

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

I was worried about the rootball falling apart when transplanting, what with the loose coco and perlite mix, but it definitely wasn't an issue! Not sure how much of that is credited to the rapidstart but it doesn't appear to hurt!

I would think that a lot of it could be credited to your rapid start. MY roots never looked like that. Mind you, I transplanted them at first sign of roots, after about 1.5 weeks.

Subbed :) my next grow will be almost the same as yours - coco and perlite and hopefully LED (expensive as hell in South Africa) or a 600w hps :) looking forward to seeing your results :)

I'm debating on the exact same light question. But I can't find a deffinitive answer to which is actually better. Running cost aside! Which is it

Mh/hps will always out perform LEDs watt for watt in my opinion, unless you're talking a complete commercial setup, then some LED panels can rival but at many times the cost of hps/mh. The main benefit of quality leds is longevity of the light, spectrum control, temperature, and power consumption for home use.

Leds can pull great yields though under the right circumstances. I would use mh/hps in my 2x4 tent but the temps won't drop below 90 degrees and I don't want to run AC so LED was my better option

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

If one uses an air cooled hood or cool tube then the heat shouldn't be so bad right? At the moment I got a 250 hps (no air cooling) and about 200w cfl (20 watt bulbs) and my lights on temp is about 28 degrees (about 18cm above the tops of my plants). Air going into the box is just over 22 degrees Celsius.

So if I have a bigger box, with a 600w hps but in a cool tube or air cooled hood, my temps shouldn't be any higher than what they currently are hey? What you guys think?

Biggest considerations are heat. I don't want to go any higher than 28/29 degrees. LED is awesome but at the moment spending so much doesn't seem worth it, especially when HPS can be sourced locally and quite cheap too..

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

Air cooled hood or cool tube will help but ultimately the temps will still remain high if the area of the growing room is small and if no AC is used.

You can purchase a double ended gavita hps system which is top of the line but still requires AC to cook the room as it runs at 30-35 degrees Celsius.

If you have an air cooled hood blowing the air outside (not into the bedroom or wherever it is, then maybe you will be ok. I started with a 600w mh/hps system in a 4x5 space and could not keep the temps below 35 degrees.

Update with pics!

My Demented Little Girls are doing just great this evening. Growing growing growing. Finally, they seem to be catching up to what they should have been about 2 weeks ago. I'm very bummed that they are so stunted, but that's nothing that a few extra weeks in veg cannot fix, I suppose. i know it had to do with the temperature in that room in the beginning. I had no idea it was so cool in there. And as soon as i fixed that problem, it seemed, they began to grow properly. I only wish that someone had been able to point out to me that they were growing very very slowly for their age, even back then, but how could anyone have known? I certainly didn't know, that's for sure. Whatever, they seem to be making up for lost time now. Even my stunted DLG is growing well now, despite her experience with light burn. I've noticed that she has the same number of leaves on her as the others do, but they are growing very close together on her stalk because she's so short. Funny, that.

Regardless, here's the pics I took this evening when I watered them:

These first two are of my damaged DLG. Try to notice how close her leaves grow to each other on her stalk. That's what I was mentioning.

And this is my other BB. She's doing fine after topping her the other night, eh?

And this is the smaller of my two PE. Again, doing just fine after being topped, right?

And this is the biggest of my girls. Just look at her go crazy wild after her topping. Again, a PE:

And this is a fun little pic. These are all the tops of my 3 girls that I've topped so far. I stuck them in rooting gel -- smeared the shit all over their bottoms -- and stuck the into Rapid Rooters. They aren't just surviving. They are actually growing bigger! I cannot believe it! I can't believe how much growth they've given me since the toppings! I think they're actually going to grow roots. They are just doing fine. The two which are side by side are the Pineapple Express tops and the one by itself is the Big Bud. Not bad, eh? Maybe I should throw out the plants I've been trying to grow and keep these instead? Just kidding... Maybe, just maybe... I'll have extra plants to my name without even thinking about doing so. It was meant to be just an experiment. Something fun to do. And look at them! Take a look at the previous pic of them from the other day and you'll see what I mean by they are growing like mad.

I think I'm gonna top my damaged little girl tomorrow. I would have done it tonight, except I'm not feeling that well. I feel sick from the meds I've been taking. had to take too much medication yesterday and feel really sick with drugs all day today. Can't wait to get off this Fentanyl and these T4s. I'm hoping to cut my Ativan down by at least 1/2 to 1/3 if I can find a good strain for my anxiety. That would be sooooo fucking great. I hate these days when I feel too drugged, and yesterday was one of them. Really can't wait.

But hey, how about that new growth, eh?

Looking really nice! What kind of rooting gel are you using?

Something called "Olivia's Cloning Gel." Found it, like everything else, on Amazon. Have no idea how good it is.

The wife-bot picked up all she needs today to make me a flood and drain system for my coast and my tent!!! I'll have a flood and drain system set up in my closet before the next feeding is due!!!

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

Thanks, Rideouts! I appreciate it. Yes. I'm excited as well. It'll save my back from bending and lifting the plants out of there twice a day and let me tell you, that's really hard on my back. I've been having a real hard time of it ever since repotting my demented little girls, that's for sure. This'll surely help.

On another note, I've begun writing a non fiction book on how to make creams and lotions using cannabis as a primary ingredient. In another life I used to make a meagre living out of producing and selling handmade soaps, creams and lotions at farmers markets, specialty markets and trade shows. So the fact that I'm working on designing a cream and a lotion using cannabinoids to help my own back seems to necessitate the writing of a book to go along with it. I mean, wouldn't everyone do the same? He laughs maniacally!

Good luck with the book Magnus. Could come in handy for many folks.

Can someone please answer me this question: What is the deal with our girls not being exposed to even the slightest amount of light during their dark hours. I know it is important that they not have any light touch them during their dark hours but I just don't understand why.
