Magnus8's Canna Cream, Body Butter & Canna Lotion Study Hall

I keep hoping to get a jeweler's scale for fine-tuning, but then I spend the funds on something for the garden. :laughtwo: My last batch of cream was too runny. It was still effective as a healing cream, but I was hoping for something less sloppy. I'll pull it out of the fridge and work in a little more beeswax this weekend.

Travel safely and comfortably Magnus. :hugs:

Actually, the process of making cream this time was much easier than my first time making it. But, the essential oils I ordered that I thought had arrived haven't (tea tree oil and lavender oil) so I'm holding off on finishing it until they arrive, which is supposed to be next week.

My first canna cream recipe ended up with:

  • 52 grams of grated beeswax
  • 98 grams cocoa butter
  • 10 grams decarbed Hash Plant
  • 18 oz. sweet almond oil
  • 3 to 6 drops of Wild Orange essential oil

While this recipe came together with just the following:

  • 22 grams of beeswax
  • 11 grams of shea butter
  • 10 grams of decarbed Hash Plant
  • 274 grams of sweet almond oil with 174 grams infused with cannabis
  • and, still to be added - tea tree oil, peppermint oil and maybe lavender oil

I'll post a photo when it's where I want it to be done.

Well, HG,

Sounds like it is coming out a winner for you. I'm so happy for you.

Honestly, though, I don't see a need for any lavender essential oil. I knowill it smells nice, but in this concoction I'm not sure it will help do what it is supposed to do, and that is to relax your muscles. It might work, but I think the smell would be attrocious with the other oils mixed in. But I'll see what happens and take clues from you, actually. It's just not a combination I would gravitate toward.

Anyway, best of luck with what you decide and please keep us posted!

Besties,
Magnus.

Thank you for that Hash Girl. :hugs: I have everything I'd need on hand, and I'll be making a new batch sometime soon. :battingeyelashes:

I think the combination of lavender and peppermint would be a decent blend, but the tea tree gave me pause. On its own maybe, but definately not with the lavender.

How greasy is it, at this stage?

Mmmmmm cocoa....

Now I did my oil with the following
Cocoa butter
Tea tree
Lavender
Peppermint
Vitamin E

Smelled fantastic, I added about 30 drops of each oil and it smelled like a peppermint patty

Peppermint and cocoa out smell any and all of the other oils so don't think tea tree or lavender will keep up they won't...lol

Re: Magnus8's Canna Cream - Body Butter - & Canna Lotion Study Hall

Also SuperSue, mine started to runny, so just added more wax, let cool, took 2x and got a nice consistent cream

Mine was never oily, didn't use Shea but mine was just like HB 1st batch

I wondered about the lavender oil, too but SweetSue convinced me it would all work together (however, I just noticed that she no longer thinks that :)) so now I think I will just leave it out or maybe put a small amount of the cream in a separate container and add lavender and maybe peppermint just to that one.

Hi Sue.

I hadn't actually tried it yet so I went to the kitchen to get some to put on my knee and was very impressed. It absorbed nicely with little if any greasiness. It feels really good and way less greasy than my last batch.

And, BONUS, there aren't any hard little beads of wax in it.

I was wondering if someone can tell me the best uses for the oil/salve, and coconut cubes I have made? The oil and salve are made from buds and diluted to approximately 10mg THC/ml oil. The cubes (which have much more beeswax) are made mostly from fan (non-sugar) leaves, stems, and roots, but also the remaining bud (and the oil left in it) from the first batch.

What's the THC salve good for vs. what's the low-THC high-plant material cube good for? Are there any definitive answers?

For what it is worth, I'd drop the Lavender oil and use a combination at ion of tea tree oil and peppermint oil.

Lavender oil smells pretty, especially on its own before being combined with other essential oils. But it has absolutely NO pain relief for the user. This is supposed to be a butter for relieving pain. Both tea tree oil and peppermint oil work brilliantly to relieve pain, especially when combined. Adding lavender oil won't help at all and may just make your formulation stink because you are adding it to another essential oil with which it is not compatable.

My 4 cents. Take it or leave it.

Best,
Magnus.

Good afternoon.

My essential oils finally came this week so I finished up my canna cream this morning. Here is the final recipe plus some photos:

  • 22 grams of beeswax
  • 11 grams of shea butter
  • 10 grams of decarbed Hash Plant
  • 274 grams of sweet almond oil with 174 grams infused with cannabis
  • 15 drops tea tree essential oil
  • 15 drops peppermint essential oil

I picked up the little bowls with lids from the dollar store. Each bowl is 8 ounces.

And, as I posted previously, it's smooth and creamy and not greasy at all. I haven't tried it yet as I still have a little left from the last batch that I made in March. I didn't get as much cream this time though so I don't think this stuff will last as long.

Added info: I posted a blog with the recipe, too. Here's the link if you're interested:

HashGirl's Canna Cream Recipe - Take 2

And, it smells very pleasantly of peppermint with a hint of something else, the tea tree oil I presume. The smell is very subtle and not overwhelming at all and in fact, I might add 20 drops of peppermint oil next time just to make the smell a little stronger.

Beautifully done HG! What a professional presentation :thumb: How's the smell with that blend?

I was confused by the mention of both "10 grams of decarbed Hash Plant" and the "274 grams of sweet almond oil with 174 grams infused with cannabis." Is that the same cannabis or is there 10 grams hash plant plus what you infused in the 174 grams almond oil, which you then diluted with an additional 100 grams of oil? I didn't follow that.

Thank you, InTheShed. I blogged the actual recipe and have now added the link to the blog in my post. The recipe should help unconfuse you but if it doesn't, let me know.

So for the sake of this thread's completeness, it's 10 grams of decarbed Hash Plant infused into 174 grams sweet almond oil.

Then that gets blended with the 100 grams sweet almond oil and beeswax blend. Yes?

Yes.

Beautiful, HashGirl! Looks like you've done splendidly -- again.

Congrats and hats off to you, my friend. You deserve it.

Please let us know how well it works for you. Soon enough I'll have enough product to finally make some of my own. I'm now two weeks off my chopping time, if the weather holds. I don't want to have to chop these ones down early like I had to do with the four others.

Just an aside, for anyone who is wondering, the book preparations for the release of Finding Max are coming along splendidly. We (my editor and i) are diligently working still on editing the book. I am also working hard at planning the marketing aspect of it. To raise money for the marketing, I may do a bid on Kickstarter.com. Crowdfunding, here we come, if I can pull it off.

The goal is to raise enough to drive all around the upper east coast of the US and Canada, then repeat on the west coast, going as far south as Los Angeles (primarily LA so that I can stop and spend some time at my publishing company getting to know them all better. They maybe don't know it yet, but I plan on this relationship lasting a long time!

I also want to raise some money for signage and the vehicle needed to do all that driving in but that also has camper room in it so that I can spend the nights in campgrounds. Sure would be cheaper than renting a vehicle and staying in hotels, right? Plus a helluva lot more relaxing and good for the soul. I can't see any better way to do this book tour than to travel by camper. And at the end of it all? I still own the camper!

I've put out a bid to all my friends recently, and I'do like to offer you all the same chance to direct the sales of Finding Max.

My publisher has asked me to gather a list of friends and acquaintances who would be willing to purchase the book when it first comes out, read it, then post an HONEST review of it on the Amazon platform. The review would need to be posted within the first two weeks after the book Co es out.

How does this help? Consider this. When a potential buyer of the book is looking at a first book by an author, they often peruse the reader reviews to see not only what people are saying, BUT HOW MANY REVIEWS ARE ACTUALLY POSTED. So, if there are either none or just a few reviews, the buyer usually passes that particular book by.

This info all comes from Amazon's marketing department itself.

So your review, even if you hated the book and say so in the review can still be good for the book because it increases the sheer number of reviews. We always make allowances for one or two poor reviews.

So if any of you are interested in helping out with the sales of Finding Max, and I would be so very grateful if you were willing to help out with the reviews, then please take a brief moment to pm me.

And for those few of you who know nothing about what I'm talking about here, Finding Max is a novel I wrote last summer and found a publisher for in November. Finding Max tells a harrowing tale.

Gary, eight, and his younger brother, Max, are playing in a playground on a hot summer day. Gary tune his back for a moment and Max disappears. Seventeen years later the two brothers meet serendipitously through Gary's work. As the two struggle, with the help of Gary's new girlfriend, Jean, to both trust and love one another, they must also evade the evil clutches of the nefarious Quinn who seeks to re-abduct Max for his own dastardly ends. Finding Max will keep you reading far into the night as you find yourself unable to put the book down. Don't you just love a great thriller?

So that's the plot behind my novel Finding Max. Please, if any of you are planning on reading the book anyway, then please help me out if you can with this simple request to write that short -- and honest -- review if you can.

I would be more grateful than you realize if you could help out in this way.

Anyway, so that's my long winded posting for the day. I do hope everyone is okay. Cannafan? Haven't heard anything from you for a while. You still slumming it in this study hall. Sure do hope so.

And the same goes out to all of you. I hope you are well and, if you're Canadian, then enjoying this Thanksgiving weekend which is now thrust upon us already.

Keep well, my friends.
Best,
Magnus.

Hi all - I've been following along for a while now. Building up to making some myself soon (I've already found some effectiveness just from a few experiments with the 36hr EVOO infusion I made for internal use - rubbed it into sore knee... gone!)

So thanks M8 for the thread and for all the great shares, from Mag and everyone!

Mag, I'm not sure about what you say there about lavender oil. It has massively good analgesic and anti inflammatory properties and has been a pain relieving go to for me for a long time. Plus it would have the added benefit of a calming /soothing effect on the mood state with it's aromatherapy in the mix. I'll have to read back over this thread to see what other oils you do recommend earlier. I forget some of the stuff I've read earlier, and I'm reading so many journals ect., both current and archived, it's hard to keep track! Now I know how to blog stuff and save it - I'll go back to your earlier recipes. No doubt you have more experience than I in making these creams and lotions! I've treated my own pain for years, using just Ess. oils added to base massage oil or in hot baths & lavender has always been one of my first choices for pain, rosemary too, great muscle relaxant. They're aromas combine well too.

Added info: I posted a blog with the recipe, too. Here's the link if you're interested:

Thanks HG! Now I know I can subscribe to blogs as well - I've subbed to it. Going to try it soon. Hope I can get it as smooth as yours looks!!

Am I right in thinking/remembering that CBD ratio is not so important for the topicals, and that it's good THC we're after?

.

Re: Magnus8's Canna Cream - Body Butter - & Canna Lotion Study Hall

I believe that CBD is good for topicals, too. THC targets the pain but CBD will target the inflammation just like if you ingested it. I'm not 100% sure about this. You might want to check with our Jedi Master, SweetSue. :laughtwo:
