Magnus8's Canna Cream, Body Butter & Canna Lotion Study Hall

Hey Dynamo!

Nice to see you here and yes, I do speak very highly of pumpkin seed oil as a carrier oil to carry your essential oils and cannabis oils into the body past the skin barrier. You will love this oil. It sinks in so beautifully without a trace. Try this. Take a dime sized pool of oil on your arms and hands then rub it in until it disappears. Doesn't take long does it? And that's not evaporation, either. It is sinking into your skin. It truly is a beautiful oil. I hope you love it as much as I do.

Everything else looks really good here. Why the emu oil? Just curious. I've never used it before but I've definitely heard about its beautiful qualities.

If this concoction is for pain relief then my answer is always the same as to which essential oils to use in it. Try Peppermint Oil combined with Tea Tree Oil. These two oils, even when used without cannabis to augment the pain control, will go a long ways toward relieving pain symptoms in joints, bones, limbs and deep pain that seems to emanate from deep within.

Hope this helps some.

And I'm so very sorry to all for not being so active on here lately. My computer difficulties combined with the tremendous amount of work time it is taking to get my novel, Finding Max, ready for publication, combined with my outdoor grow happening in the back yard is all taking up so much damned time that I don't have much of it to myself anymore. But let it suffice that the plans for the book tour are coming along, we just need to raise some more money for the trip. All the other marketing plans are coming along nicely too, but all these plans require money.

I've decided to put together a kickstarter.Com campaign to raise money for the marketing campaign, so I'll be sure to let you know more about that as that progresses!

Best,
Magnus.

Hey Sandjack,

Welcome aboard! Hope you find some of what you need here.

Just so that you know, making a salve is different from making a lotion or butter for topical application. Whereas a lotion will have about 70% to 85% water based ingredients, a salve will have only about 15% to 20% of water based ingredients in it. That is why a salve goes on so greasy -- because it is almost all oils!

If you really want to be making a salve, then I'd suggest looking on YouTube for videos on how to produce a salve rather than a lotion or butter. I'm sure the procedure is simple enough, I would just think that for it to work out properly and the water based ingredients to mix in properly, then you'd have to follow a very specific procedure for incorporating them (oils and water) together.

Let me know if I can be of any help to you in this. I might be able to find you a simple salve recipe that you could augment or clarify. I'll help in any way I can, given that this new tablet keeps on working.

It was working long enough for me to post an entry in the Plant of the month contest this month. You should check her out. She is one of my monsters that I grew this summer out back of where I live. She is over six feet tall and at least that around her girth. Truly a beautiful specimen.

Here's a link to take a look at all the plants this month. 420 Magazine's Plant of the Month - September 2017

Please, this is NOT me asking for an endorsement or an attempt at getting any of you to vote for me. Rather, I've been getting more into voting in the contests as of late and this is my way of promoting ALL THE CONTESTS, and not just the one I'm entered into this month.

Anyway, I do hope you take a look at my plant. I'm very proud of her!

Best,
Magnus.

Hey DeVille,

Felonious was correct. I have, indeed, been having serious computer problems. Seems like any piece of technology that I touch lately just blows up in my grubby little hands!

Combine that with all the work I've been doing on my novel, Finding Max, the editing with my editor, the planning of the marketing program, trying to raise money for the marketing plan, etc is all taking copious amounts of time - much more than I really have at my disposal. Combine all that with looking after 20 plants in an outside grow... and let me tell you, I've been busy!

I've decided to raise money for the marketing initiatives through Kickstarter.com, as much as I can make, at least. I will need approximately $25,000 in funding to make this marketing plan and it's initiatives work.

In the marketing plan, I've got planned to set up a Quiz maker - create your own quiz, poll, survey, and more ツ quiz that will ask of users, What does what you read say about you? A directed quiz like this will separate users into categories of readers, readers of romances, thrillers, suspense, mysteries, westerns, police procedural novels, etc. These will be self identified categories, in that people will choose their favourite kind of book to read and the program will communicate that info to me.

Then, once we've collected a good number of email addresses we then have a self defined group of people to market Finding Max to, all those who selected thriller, mystery or suspense novels as being their favourite genre of book to read.

These email addresses are like gold to us. Think about it. These people have just told us that their favourite kind of book to read is the exact kind of book I want to sell them. And I can pass off the extra emails - those who like westerns, biographies, comedies, etc - to my publisher who certainly would have use for them. But this gives me a solid foundation of email addresses to market Finding Max to. People who have already admitted that this type of book is their favourite to read.

So that's how one aspect of the marketing plan will progress. There are lots of inns and outs in this plan, a lot to consider, a lot to do. But I'm confident that, if we can raise the money, then it will all run smoothly. It had better, cuz right now I'm on pins and needles as I consider all the aspects I still have yet to do to get everything rolling. It is just mindboggling, actually.

Until later, then.
Magnus.

Hello everyone.

I'm planning on making my second batch of cream next week when I'm vacation as I'm running low on my last batch. I'm really hoping my new batch will be easier to make than the first time I tried it. It took me the better part of a week to get it good enough. It wasn't perfect (it has hard, tiny balls of wax in it) but it works and that's the most important thing.

This time, I know to weigh my ingredients instead of going by volume. And, this time, I have beeswax beads, shea butter, peppermint essential oil, tea tree essential oil and lavender essential oil. I don't know if I'll add the lavender and peppermint together in the cream. I'll have to try mixing the 2 prior to making the cream.

Mmmmm if u had cocoa butter it would be fantastic..
All those will be a great oil...

Use about 20-30 drops of each of the oils...my 1st try I didn't use enough

Good luck

I had to add more to get the consistency I wanted. Start with that then add more as needed

Hey Scorpio, just wanted to jump back in with my results and to say thanks! I started with 20 grams of beeswax, added 5 more, then 5 more, and then 3 more for a total of 33 grams of pure beeswax in 6 ounces of oil.

Since this is a study hall I guess I should post the whole shebang so here it is in a nutshell.

• 51 grams decarbed bud (cleaned of botrytis per this method), roughly 10% THC per the breeder
• 12 ounces fractionated coconut oil
• 4 hours on low in a small crock pot, 8 hours cooling, 3 more hours on low, cooled over night
• Strained through a double layer of cheese cloth and squeezed in a ricer (thanks SweetSue) to get out as much as I could
• Ended up with 8 ounces, so 4 ounces of oil remains in the plant material which went back in the freezer for another day
• Added 4 ounces of grapeseed oil to dilute the concentration of THC to ~9.6mg/ml
• Split the now 12 ounces into 6 and 6, and left one of those alone for massage oil
• Melted varying amounts of beeswax and stirred it into a jar with the 6 ounces of warm oil, stirring with a whisk (thanks again SweetSue!) while it cooled to see if I liked the consistency
• After mixing 33 grams of beeswax into the 6 ounces of oil, I got this, which doesn't pour when you tip it but is still nice and smooth:

20170920_082228.jpg

It smells like toasted dope but the smell goes away rather quickly after it's applied, so I may not add anything to it. It also seems to absorb pretty well without leaving a greasy feeling. And definitely not waxy. The massage oil may get modified with some essential oil if I think something can overpower the dope smell without becoming overpowering itself (some strong scents trigger my migraines).

That's my story. I'll let the experts tell me if this is a salve, cream, ointment, butter, or balm. Feel free to ask questions, and thanks again to Scorpio for all the help!

How does it work??

Any noticable relief

How does it work?? Any noticable relief

Haven't had anything to try it on yet except a few mosquito bites, and it stopped the itching on those at least as fast if not faster than benadryl spray. I'm waiting for my wife's hip or knees to act up for the pain relief test. A friend has eczema and I'll give her some to try on that as well. Early days but I'll update as I learn.

Thanks!

Thanks! Could not have done it without an inordinate amount of research and great responses from the folks on the 420mag journals

:Namaste:
:woohoo::woohoo: Looks good, I've procrastinated long enough on my salve, you have finished what I have not, and you :thanks:have spurred my motivation. I have moved my salve up the priority to do list, right behind the next batch of wine, the grapes are picked and waiting.:thumb::Namaste:

Yeah, I didn't know if they would work together. I've used rosemary and lavender scented shampoo and conditioner before and liked them together.

I've never used anything with a floral scent before as I'm really sensitive to those kinds of scents but I visited a lavender farm and despite my misgivings, lavender didn't bother me at all. I might make different batches of the cream just in case my skin is irritated by the lavender. I don't typically wear scented products because my skin breaks out in hives usually.

I also have some clove essential oil because a friend found a recipe for making your own mosquito repellent and clove essential oil was a key ingredient. Of course, it doesn't make much sense to make bug repellent now since fall is almost here.

Were you thinking the scents wouldn't work together? Lavender and mint combinations are one of my favorites.

Thank you, Scorpio. I used cocoa butter last batch so this time I wanted to try the shea butter for a change of pace.

Good day.

I'm currently making new canna pain cream and I'm hoping I have the measurements correct right off the bat. This time I know to weigh my measurements and not look at volume only so here's what I have:

  • I started with 274 grams of sweet almond oil of which 173.6g of it has been infused with 10 grams of Hash Plant.
  • I added 11 grams of beeswax pastilles, which is 4% of the 274 grams of oil.
  • I also added 5.5 grams of shea butter, which is 2% of the 274 grams of oil.

Is that the whole recipe? I'm letting the mixture cool currently to check the consistency. I also have peppermint, lavender and tea tree essential oil to add at some point.

Magnus' initial ratios said to start with 4% beeswax and go up to 8% if needed. Will I need to add anymore shea butter, do you think?

:helpsmilie:

Just want confirmation that I'm going at this the right way this time. I'm down to less than half a small jar of my previous batch and really need to get this right sooner rather than later. I'm on holidays this week so it's a good week to do it.

Magnus' initial ratios said to start with 4% beeswax and go up to 8% if needed. Will I need to add anymore shea butter, do you think?

Shea butter is an oil therefore would probably be better for the skin over beeswax, which is just for consistency. I only used beeswax to stiffen up my oil and I ended up with 33 grams beeswax in 6 ounces of oil, but I started with 20 and worked my way up until I got a consistency I liked (letting it cool down after each blend).

If you can get it to the right texture with shea I would use more of that, as the beeswax actually ends up inhibiting absorption.

You're on the right track there, HG. Start your beeswax at 4% and add more until reaching up to 8%. I wouldn't go higher than that for reasons already stated - absorption problems.

Keep your Shea Butter at 2% until you've added as much beeswax as you're going to and then, if it is still too thin, mix in another 2% of the Shea butter.

Shea Butter can get pretty greasy pretty quickly so you might not want to add more than a total of 4% of your total mixture. If you've got 8% beeswax and 4% Shea Butter and it is still thin, apart from adding cocoa butter, I'd say be happy with what you've concocted from your own two hands.

For future reference, you might want to think of melting all your oils together first and then infusing all those oils with your booty.

Just sayin'.

Best,
Magnus.

Hope it goes well for you. I'll be checking in to follow your progress and if you need immediate help, wee, FP knows how to reach me. I'll be away in Edmonton for my monthly back appointment tomorrow, but ill check in by early evening.
