LMAO Cloning For Dummies

Right-o. I blame you, Imhigh85, cause i have a serious obsession with growing weed upside down now. I have a tree with branches just begging to be hung with lots of pots of upside down weed. The problem? Can't figure out how to stop the grow medium falling out of the hole where the stem has to come through. High (or anyone), any ideas?

Ordered a digital ph meter and tds meter...doubt their the best but maybe will work for now...not sure what the ppm means besides parts per million but not sure what it means or trying to tell me but both was in the pack so why not
Ppm in this scenario means for example if you're using ro water ( because it's TDs is 0 so it's easier to explain) means anything added to this ro water will increase its total dissolved solids. So for example. If you add ferts to your water it will raise your tds. This way you know exactly how much fert you are putting in and then how much the plant is using. So now let's go with this seniero. You test your tap water or whatever your using for your plants. Test that with your tds meter so you know where you are starting. Then when you add your ferts to the water test it again and subtract the number of your plain water before ferts and you will know exactly how many ppm of ferts you are using. In my opinion a TDs meter is much more important for running hydroponics. That way you can tell how much ferts your plants are using in a given day and you know exactly how much ferts to add to your mix so you always know when to add more ferts. With ppm you can dial in your ferts better then just going with ( add a tablespoon per gallon of water. I hope I didn't confuse you with my explanation. You will need 2 different types of calibration liquids to get your tester working and it's also recommended to have a storage solution for when your not using them. Or they will not last long. If you let the probes dry out to much they will malfunction and not work right. I know it's a pain in the ass but that's the way it is. I found that out the hard way years ago. Some people use to water for storage. I can't verify this because when mine went bad years ago I just broke down and bought the real storage solution because I didn't want to take the chance of ruining another device.

I should of said that the 2 calibration solutions are either standard reference solution of pH 7.0 and pH 4.01 or some types need 6.86 and 4.01 depending on the pH pen you have.

I will have to reread that a couple times lol...I only bought both cause it was a package deal ...same price as just ph meter...I'm just seeing what works and what don't ....thank you

So if I don't measure the water PH or check the TDS or PPM my plants won't grow well and produce a quality product? Cause I'm wondering how they get along okay in nature. And yes, I am stirring the pot.

Well in about a week I'll be away for few days....should I water them a lil more the day I leave or just stick with what I'm doing and pick back up when I get back

Not at all, I grew for a few years and kept myself and my wife in smoke all year long. But when I dialed in my ph the same plants produced more, faster. For me the TDs meter is less important because I am growing in dirt not hydro. But every now and then I will test runoff when plain watering so I can see how much ppm is coming out. If it's life I will back off the ferts a little. No point in wasting ferts. Those cost mucho denerio. If I see not much comming out I will increase a little. Every plant has a sweet spot. The closer you can get to that sweet spot the better the plant does. So if you can get your plant to grow faster and produce more the better for you. jmo.

If the digital ph meter works then I can just measure out what I'm going to feed them and ph that instead of having to ph the whole mix....and using the ph drops tester is kinda pain in the a** honestly

I'm not sure I understand, the ferts may change the water pH and vise versa. I always tested the mixed ready to pour and then the run off. Because again the soil mix can change the pH of the water and or mix and vice versa.

I mix everything all together and then test and adjust the PH level to 6.5 (soil) I have yet to check the PH of any run-off, but would consider that option if I were having a problem with my plants.

Well if I used the whole gallon I mix every time I fed I'd do that but I give like 8oz a day so figured just be easier to ph 8oz everyday and not the whole gallon

If the 8 ounces you're going to be feeding to the plant comes out of the whole gallon what difference does it make which you measure? Measure it all and pour the 8 ounces into whatever container you will use to feed the plant. Or, pour the 8 ounces into the other container then measure the PH. Same difference I think.

Well got em all transplanted ...figure veg for couple months ...take some cuttings here and there...damn gonna have to build another room for clones lol
