Nice start this is going to be good. :thumb:
Thanks Keith. I need to do some more spraying in the Vivosun Auto Oasis before I put this little girl in there. Hoping to get her in her 4" pot today or tomorrow.

Spectacular grow and harvest LKA! Got me fully rethinking autos and what they are capable of, those bushes grew some ridiculous buds!
Thanks RSR. I've read all the same things about autos, they're small and weak and poor genetics and don't even waste your time. I think a lot of that is from new growers, combined with the fact that the genetics have come a long ways in the past couple of years.
These autos are proving to me that I could supply personal use with 2 plants in a 2x4 tent with 200W on 20/4, getting 6+oz every 40-50 days. And I've enjoyed all of the bud from the autos. My first auto (Herbies Seeds Fruit Punch Auto) is still my favorite daytime smoke. Right now, the Gelato Auto has been curing for a little over 6 weeks and is quickly becoming a house favorite. I just wish you could clone autos.

Julie has had an eventful week. On Friday, Daisy left the tent. On Saturday, I decided to clean up Julie's bottom. I've seen some spider mite damage and it'll be harder to treat her with so much in the middle. The night after harvesting Daisy was the perfect time to do it. I was ready to get rid of some larf!

I started by removing the grafting tape from her split main. It looks like it's healed well. The wire support will stay on until harvest. That branch is still doing well, and you can actually see it now ;) Julie finally came off her riser, and she has both @VIVOSUN AeroLights to herself.

On Sunday, I cleaned the grow room really well. I cleaned up and swept the floor. Then I sprinkled DE on the floor and swept it around. I turned off the dehumidifier while I did this, because it blows right across the middle of the room. Of course, I forgot to turn it back on :( Monday morning when I woke I had a Vivosun alarm and realized what happened. I turned the dehumidifier back on, and everything went back to normal. She did drink less that day, though.
Julie Tracker 20230726.png
I also started releasing ladybugs in the tent Sunday night. I got them from the 'zon, and most of them looked alive and well. I'm keeping them in my fridge, and releasing a couple of dozen in each tent every other night.
20230723_124948.jpg

20230723_124955.jpg
I ran out of time on Monday to do anything. Yesterday (Tuesday), I took Julie out of the tent and sprayed her really well with SNS-217c. I started with the underside of the leaves, working my way around her and trying to get the middle as well.

Then I cleaned the tent, spraying H2O2 around and then wiping it down really well. I wiped down the fans and cleaned everything else in the tent too.

Finally I put Julie back in the tent and sprayed her again from the top, getting the tops of the leaves. I felt it was pretty thorough. I took some before pictures of her buds, showing one had partially browned already (I think from a previous spraying).

Today, I can see that all her stigmas have burned a bit, or at least they've turned color. I'm hoping she works through it, but it's probably still better than web-covered buds. I'm still planning on hitting her at least once more with the SNS-217c in a couple of days, probably twice more. We'll see how it affects her budding.

I think Julie is just about done with her stretch. At 29" tall, she's more than doubled since she started flowering. She gets a new neighbor today, they'll all share the tent with the ladybugs!

Violet (Herbies Seeds Grandaddy Purple Auto)
Date: 7/27/23 Day# 4
Medium: 4" Pot with FFHF soil and Dynomyco
Nutrients: None

Violet stayed upstairs near the air garden for her first couple of days while I finished cleaning up the Vivosun Auto Oasis. She was watered with a medicine dropper, 5ml at a time.

Yesterday she got her own 4" pot. She had some pretty good lateral roots coming out of the plug.

I filled the bottom of the pot with soil mixed with about 1tsp Dynomyco. Then I sprinkled more @DYNOMYCO all over the plug before putting it in the pot and filling it with enough dirt to hold it in place.

I put a perlite moat around the outside to make it easier to water.

Then I top with more soil, mounding around the stem.

Then I work my way around the pot and push down, making sure the soil level is well beneath the rim of the pot. This helps keep it from overflowing.

Then I water her thoroughly. I start by spraying until the top is wet then move on to a 30ml dropper. I water 30ml at a time until I get runoff, then weigh her to get her 'wet weight' for my spreadsheet.

Then I put her right where Julie started off, on top of a bucket in the shadow of her tent mate. She's getting about 14 DLI, perfect for her first week.

Today she's getting her second node. She looks like she's settling right in to the Vivosun Auto Oasis, along with a fresh batch of ladybugs from last night.

Thanks Keith.
Beautiful roots for such a tiny plant.
Omg those roots!

🌱💚🌱💚🌱💚
How to get great lateral rooting: Burn the main tap root  She sprouted on Sunday. I checked the plug on Tuesday and realized that the heat mat was still on, and the main tap root was brown (too warm/dry). I turned the heat mat off on Tuesday and potted on Wednesday, and you see the lateral roots created. Sometimes I'll take the inner tray out and let the bottom of the tap root hit air, effectively doing the same thing. If the sides are moist and the bottom is not hospitable to roots, you get good lateral rooting. Does it help or is it just prettier???

Voilet is cruising along in her new 4" pot. She's only losing around 20ml of water/day to both drinking and evaporation combined. She's been in her 4" pot for 5 days, and she's had one drink so far: 28ml yesterday around the edge of the pot.
Violet Tracker 20230731.png
I stopped using the yellow stickies because I found a ladybug on one. I'm counting on the ladybugs to help with the spider mites, hopefully they can help with the fungus gnats as well.

Violet is cruising right along and growing well. She is already starting on her third node with very tight internodal spacing. It's surprising since she's only around 14 DLI. Of course, that's the measure when the tent is open and is probably slightly more when the door is shut. She's looking good, though, so she'll stay on her bucket for another week.

Good morning Cool Hand Luke!

😍😍😍

Omg that sticky stuff!

I’d legit rather spidermites. I’m still tramatised by the lizard I had to euthanise. I saved one, then a few months later had to kill one. I just couldn’t get her off the sticky. So SO awful!

Saved!

Murdered!

The struggle is real!

Lol

I am
Violet (Herbies Seeds Grandaddy Purple Auto)
Date: 7/24/23 Day# 1
Medium: EZ-Gro plug in Vivosun starter tray
Nutrients: N/A

On Thursday (7/20) I planted a new seed, a Herbies Grandaddy Purple Auto (next to some new lettuce).

Here's what @Herbies Seeds says about this strain:

Grandaddy Purple Auto Strain Info
The history of this West Coast classic starts in San Francisco in 2003. From there, Grandaddy Purple went on to conquer the world thanks to her outstanding flavors of grapes, pine, and spice, as well as her relaxing effects. We created Grandaddy Purple Auto as a tribute to the original but with the added bonus of automatic flowering.

Genetics
The genetic lineage of this auto goes back to such diverse hybrids and landraces as Mendo Purps, Skunk, and Afghani. The resulting purple plant was then crossed with a Ruderalis phenotype to get a cultivar that flowers automatically but doesn’t lose on the original’s outstanding quality.

Flowering Time
Grandaddy Purple Auto’s flowering time doesn’t exceed 63-73 days from seed regardless of light schedules or the duration of days and nights outdoors.

Yields
Indoor-grown plants usually yield 1-1.1 oz/ft² (300-350 g/m²), while outdoors, each plant will produce about 2.5-3.2 oz (70-90 g).

Effects
GDP Auto produces a balanced high that manifests in two distinct phases. First, you’ll feel an immediate surge of euphoria that’ll leave you mentally relaxed yet focused. In a short while, the relaxation will sink deep into your body, filling it with a beautiful buzz and sedating you to the point of sleepiness.

Medical Properties
The balanced all-round action of this smoke makes it the perfect medicine for any mental or physical condition. Some people use it to treat stress, fatigue, nausea, or insomnia, while others report that it helps with aching muscles and joints.

THC and CBD Levels
The THC content in these buds can reach 22%, while CBD levels are negligible.

Smell and Taste
The one-of-a-kind terpene profile of Grandaddy Purple Auto is something you won’t easily forget, as it offers a unique blend of notes – grapes, other berries, spicy pepper, and fresh pine forest.

Grow Tips
A medium-tall variety, GDP Auto usually stays within 3-4 ft (90-120 cm) even if grown outdoors and left untrained. Thanks to her strong Indica dominance, this strain forms compact bushes with medium branching and the perfectly symmetrical structure of a Christmas tree.

- Keep the canopy flat with ScrOG if you want bigger yields.
- Use hydroponics to increase production by up to 20%.
- Lower the day and night temps at the end of the life cycle to bring out the purple hue.

Then yesterday, after three days in the plug, she emerged. Say hello to Violet!

Here she is this morning, her first full day under the light.

#VIVOSUN #SmartGrowSystem #LoveWhatYouGrow
I am a big GDP fan, can't wait to see her in the hands of a master!

Yuck. My ladybug was probably not as dramatic.

When I first set up my grow room in the basement, I put glue traps all over. I got a lot of bugs, and one or two skinks (little lizards). Luckily now that the room is dehumidified there are a lot less bugs, and no skinks.

So no more stickies in the Vivosun Auto Oasis. It looks like this lady is taking care of business anyways.

Pests: Fungus Gnats, Spider Mites

Julie just finished a water break. For the last three days, she's had 5.5L water with BTI (for the fungus gnats) and SNS-209. This morning I mixed up a fresh batch of Remo for her and filled her res back up.
Julie Tracker 20230801.png
Julie looks to have recovered well from her first spider mite spraying. Some of the stigmas are still brown on the tips, and some have gone back to all white. That's good, because another spraying is coming soon. I've already started removing a few leaves from the middle to make sure I can spray everything well. I'm still releasing ladybugs every couple of days, but I'm not relying on them alone to keep the mites in check.

I'm seeing a bit of tip burn, with the tips of her leaves browning and curling up. At the same time, some of her upper leaves are a little lighter colored than I would like. I'm hoping the 3 day water 'flush' will help clear some old salts out of the soil. For now I'm keeping her on the Remo blend.

She's building well despite all the obstacles. For now, she gets both AeroLights for 200W of power. Finishing up her fourth week of flower, it's time for her to really start bulking up.

I am a big GDP fan, can't wait to see her in the hands of a master!
Thanks 024, I've never had GDP before so I'm excited to try it. I may be able to grow a big auto but I'm far from a master grower. I haven't even been growing for two years (next month). Right now I'm just trying to get one of these big autos to finish healthy. I'm having fun with them, though, and getting a lot of great bud in the process :)

Amen LKA, I am in the process of F'ing up my first auto and she still has monster cola's and a larger harvest than any photo I've grown. While I've got a photo coming next, I am definitely going to order a fresh supply of auto beans in the near future.

Daisy (Barneys Farm Dos Si Dos Auto) - Final Update

Date: 8/2/23 - Day# 12 of Drying
Strain - NASC - Barneys Farm Dos Si Dos Auto (Daisy)
Drying Space - 28SqFT closet with central A/C
Other Equipment: Air purifier circulating air, humidifier with distilled water
Temperatures
There were a few days where it was 98f outside, and my A/C is over 20 years old. The closet got a little warm at times, but thanks to the humidifier the RH stayed in the right range for drying.

Daisy has been in the drying closet for 12 days now. I'm getting ready for another harvest, so today I bucked and bagged her buds.

She was on 6 hangers altogether, with one only 1/4 full. I started with the first three hangers, which mostly contained smaller inside nugs and larf. Not the most dense nugs, but still very sticky and trichy. I have plenty of friends and family that would love to have some of this bud. I got 62g of bud after it was all bucked.

The fourth hanger was more substantial than the first three, but still had smaller buds and some of the longer inner branches. It ended up with 44g of middling buds.

On the fifth hanger we have some of the outside buds. These are a more dense still, and a bit longer as well. This hanger had 84g of bud.

The final hanger was the best branches. Some of these branches were over 20g by themselves. Most of this was dense, sticky premium buds. This hanger had 134g!

So all together, Daisy ended up with 324g, or about 11.4 oz of bud. That beats my largest auto harvest by over 3oz :) She's in a 1 pound Grove bag now, with a Govee hygrometer.

I'll monitor the bag over the next week. If the RH gets > 64%, I'll dump the buds out into my @VIVOSUN trim tray and let them sit for 20-30 minutes before putting them back in the bag. I'll also tumble the bag daily, just to make sure the buds aren't clumping together. In my previous experience with Grove bags, though, as long as you get the bud in the bag < 65% RH the bag takes care of the cure. I took the Govee out of Gina's (Gelato Auto) bag. You can see how steady the bags keep the RH.

I'll wait at least a day to see where the RH settles. As soon as I know it's < 64%, I'll squish some up and see how she tastes. Until then, I'll be trying out the scissor hash and kief collected.
