GF, nodes to me are the points your leaf stems from and the same point that you would get bud supporting growth! Taking the top set basically leves the nodes alone but stunts vertical growth so staks node points up for better budding. Its a do it by eye thing really as you don't want to do it non stop
Skunny, yep top open set are gone. Then with side foliage that points towards the next big colas site; I as a rule try to leave one fan per node at first. I then work the next colas site in the opposing patern and work your way round. This gives the best light average per site.
Then with the leaf sets that point into center and out away from plant. These are a judgment call. I probs take far more of the ineer pointing ones and leave most outer poited fans!
