Landrace Genetics 101

a 420 sponsor but I have no idea how to find the sponsors section anymore.

Apparently, there's an obvious "Sponsors" link at the very top of every page here that appears... with some browsers / computers / OS / users / moon phases / spells / rituals. For everyone else, just bookmark this link:

WhaT landraces are Swami selling?

I just glanced at their website and it looks to me like everything they sell is a cross, no pure landrace strains. Some of the crosses are described as having one or more landrace parents, but if you're looking for "single-genetic line landrace" strains, you'll probably be disappointed.

Might still be decent strains, though.

EDIT: Oops, I posted before reading further into the thread. I see now that this has been discussed. And that, apparently, we can email a request for a landrace strain, lol? I'm as trusting as the next (reasonable) person, I suppose - but I'm not at all sure I'd trust that business model.

"Here's what we got."
(Customer) "Oh, fiddlesticks. You mean you don't have Congolese Firestick(*)?"
"Oh... Yeah, sure, we got that, too. Want to buy some?"

(*)I made that strain name up.

That's my point mate... Not a place to advise to get landraces...

Loving the structure of the first and 4th photo plants. You sure do have some gems in your hands for sure :thumb:
Those are two of my favorite plants. I have 9 total. 8 with red point dads and one that is not related

I posted a little while back about my Columbian red point crosses. I borrowed the wife's phone this morning. Day 54 12/12 from seed.

Are those 16-ounce BodyArmor bottles, lol? I'd normally advise people that, if their plant takes up n amount of area, that they ought to size their container to match. But...

You might have to raise the ceiling if you did ;) .

BtW, does growing such (relatively) tall plants - but keeping the lower growth intact - cause that lower growth to be lacking light? Or do you have lights at multiple heights, or...?

It was never my intention to steer anyone in the wrong direction. My apologies.

I have a good eye then :high-five: I've been looking into getting into landrace strains for a couple years now. Still haven't pulled the trigger but i'm getting close. Keep up the good work mate :thumb:

They are 32oz, probably hold the equivalent of 20-24 oz of medium. I never thought they would get this big. Lol

These are landrace hybrids, I wish I had something pure, but this is what the weed gods bestowed upon me, perhaps to learn, and smoke of course:ganjamon:

I don't take anything alive off of my plants. I am, when I joke with my wife, an aggressive tucker. I tuck every big fan that I can. I have low rh so keeping the leaves seems to help with overall health. Also I love popcorn bud, makes the best butter

I'm not even entirely convinced that's necessary. Those are the plant's "solar panels" - its energy source. In tucking them out of the way in order to allow the buds more light... Well, is that really helping the colas that those leaves are (were) supplying with energy?

On the other hand, female flowers require male pollen (for species survival). Therefore, evolution might have caused plants to expend more energy on those flowers that are actually on top, or otherwise in the open, than those that would be covered by leaves and, thus, unable to easily be pollinated.

So I'll go on tucking where feasible, too ;) .

I just cannot personally justify performing an experiment in which I took whatever steps proved necessary to cover every single bud with leaves (in effect, "tucking" the buds instead of the flowers). That'd get me the data, lol, but it might do bad things to yield figures.

Interesting. I am not sure there's a correlation betwixt the two; it's the leaves that have the stomata, and those are what transpire moisture out of plants.

Not the top colas? ;)

The tucked fans seem healthy as do their corresponding nodes. Mostly it makes me feel like I am doing something in the garden.

My first couple runs indoors I fancied the idea of defoliation. I fancied it so much that my plants were tortured. The only correlation between my high temp low rh environment and leaves is stress. I had herms from stable and unstable genetics alike. Nothing could produce good yields. I stopped plucking and these are the healthiest plants I've ever grown.

I wish I could afford to throw an ounce of top bud in a pound of butter, but the wife and I sure do love to smoke the good stuff.

Landrace hybrids :passitleft: That's the best, man :high-five::rofl::passitleft: brilliant
Some beautiful girls you got going :high-five:

SCROG. It's all "top bud."

Its a little late for scrogging this run, I am considering it for my next
. My idea was an sog but they sure got away from me. My original plan was 21 plants, 9 is not 21, and I am out of room. Kept telling the wife, "don't worry, they won't get that big" and things like "see honey their not stretching anymore" all the while I was running out of ceiling.

We grew Red Point back in the late 70’s and 16’ footers we’re fairly common.
I'm pheno picking right now. Can you tell me what kind of odor I could expect from a plant leaning strongly toward red point. I have one that is displaying the growth characteristics I recognized from photos. I'm looking for the right odor. I have lemons, ripe mangos, or pine to choose from. Lol, can't wait for harvest.
I just found some dried male tops and hope they contain a bit of viable pollen
