Landrace Genetics 101

REL: tucking and top colas vs side colas vs low down cola.

There's a thing plants do called translocation. They move nutrients around (chlorophyll is part of that process) with the vascular system similar to your vascular system. When plants start scenescence (yellowing leaves late in season) there's a sorta valve in the plants petiole (leaf stem) that turn off and lets the nutrients (green part) in the leaf go back to the plant and diverted that energy to the flowers to make seeds.

So cutting off fans is counter productive. Tucking meh... not sure what you would want to accomplish. The more energy the plant has from the those big fan leaves the more energy she has to produce flowers and fend off disease and pests.

Getting to the end of the run, those fans give back all the stored energy to the plant to grow big flowers. Then they fall off. Landrace Sativa will go thru this process of large fans falling off and she will grow new ones to replace those that fell off on the plants that run say longer than 90 days. I've seen them go thru several rounds of large fans. At the end of the run, then the flowers g

Those long running Sativa will also be prone to hermie at any sort of stress. So after 90 days you gotta keep an eye out or that. IF herm, chop time or your room will be pollinated.

RE: Snowhigh... he's got some 20 week strains and he won't be around forever. Last I herd he has been having health issues. His deal was/is to get those genetics he spent his life traveling around the world collecting.

Wow that's very sad to hear. How old is he? I've been eyeing his stuff. Blueberry Blast, Panty Dropper and something else. They all sounded pretty cool :)

Sativas really enjoy correct lighting.. no good blasting a 20 week strain with January/August (northern hem) lights all way through flowering.. 'hempy' has some great info on this, if you can find it... 19ounce from a 2lt, he has me sold

I'll ask again...Is Seeds of Africa a reputable source for african genetics? I'm trying to find seedbanks for african genetics since USG/RSC/ACE/Cannbiogen has the other landraces pretty much covered from my observation (if i'm wrong please let me know since i have no idea what to buy lol)

Thanks for any input that helps :thumb:

Over heard they are reputable. I've personally never ran any. From what I've seen and heard though, they are no longer active, so grab them if you see them.

Have you been happy with what you've grown Penny?
@Morglie I tried to grow their malawi/swazi gold but i had to cut the grow short because i almost got caught by my landlord :/ Oh really they have discontinued? I went onto their website and it doesn't seem like have stopped?

To answer your question @Pennywise I'm interested in everything and anything. The first pages of this thread mention a few african landraces and i want them all, to see what i like since i wasn't alive during the period of the landrace golden times. I've read a lot of great things about landraces (especially on here) and watched a few noobtube videos (mostly greenhouse seeds strain hunters) that has peaked my interest more than once. Reading about the old hippie trails, amazing hash that people dream of, pin sized joints that would rock your socks like you wouldn't believe...that sought of stuff gets me excited and makes me want to experience what my dad and all the other oldies experienced back in the day.

Sorry for the long answer

So far I’ve been very happy with Ace, their PCK x Erdpurt is one of my favorites right now. I’ve done their Malawi as did Arctic Bowl and Sweet Sue, it is an old school Sativa high. Mine wasn’t the “Killer” Malawi so there wasn’t anxiety or racey effects just a very nice up high. Very clear with virtually no body effects. My next Sativa from Ace I’ll grow out will be Golden Tiger, Thai x Malawi. This GT is supposed to lean more Thai so pretty excited about this one.

Ace seems very reputable. I just thought i'd ask about Seeds of Africa because their seeds are much cheaper and i thought how they would compare with others like ace/etc. If i remember correctly graytail or someone else grew GT, he was very happy with it from what i recall. It's hard to know (as a noob landrace buyer/grower) what companies have the best/most original since i have no idea what the original was like  I'll continue to browse the selections from the mentioned seedbanks and i'm sure what ever i get should make for an interesting experience :thumb:
