Landrace Genetics 101

Thanks for the info. I found another link that described it different. So the named has been taken over by different people. 40 years of the same Oax? WoW! And it's plenty Early for my climate too. When I posted that info and read his descriptions I had expectations other that that review. Thought the blend would produce much differently. Sativas are Regal looking plants.

You are welcome gato!
These seeds have just been made available this past week $40.00 for twelve seeds. Not sure if against rules to post contact info here?

I don't think you can post the link, but you can say the vendor for sure.

OK! The Vender is Green Mountain Seeds new co. not even online, except on strainly So I guess you could google STRAINLY
Oaxaca79Skull x Baglung Nepali aka Purple Satellite.

12 for 40 sounds sort of cheap. Compared to what seed banks are charging for poorer genetics. Tempting, but my extra cash went to Herbies recently. Takes quite a while to consider another buy. Impressive plant though.

That's cool! and Thank you!
I spend money on other seed banks myself, HAHA
to try the hype, and shluff off another batch. Just ran 4 different strains this past season, only to say never again, LOL.
But tell you one thing I would stack these up against just about anything from big seed co's. As for being the earliest outdoor stable pure Sativa of this quality.
If I may what did you pull rom Herbies?

Strainly looks cool, I'm checking it out now :)

Since we're kinda on the subject: anyone grown anything from worldofseeds' pure origin collection? I bought some of their afghan kush seeds a while back and wasn't impressed. I'll admit to making quite a few mistakes but the few seeds that did germinate were mutants... Maybe just a bad batch? Or I guess thats what I get for wanting landrace seeds for half the price xD

I prefer the pure landraces as well, but grow space limitations eliminate things. Due to tiny space and having tiny money...I had to go cheap and got the 3 Bubblegums Auto and freebies were 2 regular Nicole KushxMorrocan regular seed and one Fem Moneybush. 6 seeds for 30 dollars. Thinking maybe the Moneybush may yield well. Don't expect much from the Bubblegum though, but I'm also ignorant person too.

And I have no doubt your's is much superior to any seed company version.
:)

Hey bud!
That's one of the companies I bought from this past season I ordered Pakistan Valley I got about twenty to Germinate out of two packs I kept 6 females and almost every one hermed at some point and what did o to fruition in my opinion was swag! I couldn't even give it away. I have ignored complaints on companies like world of seeds because there are some, people just aren't great growers.
One company Malberry Seeds got trashed many times, But one of my very best landrace strains Mulanje Gold came from them, so sometimes its a crap shoot!

Checked out that Strainly website and it's pretty awesome. Not sure how it works, but it even has pollen offerings. Didn't look into it, but interesting. Saw your ad too.

I was very disappointed in the Wild Thailand I ran. But apparently their Acapulco Gold is good. Mixed reviews on the company.

I think the main issue is the stability of the strains they sell. I saw another Wild Thailand that was fine. But they're definitely not one of the best seed houses.

This probably isn't the best thread to ask in, because they're not landraces - more like they have some claim of having one or more landrace parents. However, it's possible that someone who is subscribed to this thread has tried these strains in their search for something sativa(ish). They're Sensi Seeds strains, so I can provide links:

Mexican Sativa - (In the picture, it) looks like it has some sativa in it, at least. Medium yield, 70% sativa, 50-70 days, cool/cold weather tolerant, and only €24.01 ($28.11 US) for ten regular seeds means it's not only inexpensive for one of Sensi's strains - it's just plain inexpensive, lol.

Mexico has a long and important cannabis tradition. The country that coined the term 'marijuana' is home to some wonderful varieties of cannabis which are rarely seen outside her borders.

The main ancestor and parent of the Mexican Sativa seed-strain is a prized cultivar from the southern province of Oaxaca. To adapt this exotic Sativa for flowering in the northern summer, it was infused with genes from Durban - the famously hardy African Sativa - as well as from a fast-flowering Pakistani hash plant. The best seed offspring were then back-crossed to the Oaxacan line to maintain the distinctive qualities of the original strain.

Mexican Sativa fuses the subtle flavours of three continents within her long, delicate buds. Notes of sandalwood and aniseed are wrapped up in the sharp, fresh, resin-tinged scent of the Oaxacan original.

Mexican Sativa seeds are ideal for any garden grower who wants an easily cultivated strain, aesthetically beautiful plants and a clear, uplifting Sativa high. If you think that lower priced seeds must always be of low quality, these Ladies of the Sierra Madre will surprise you!

There's also a feminized version, with a slightly different (and lengthier) description:

Looking for a feminized sativa cannabis strain that's high-yielding and easy to grow outdoors, even in cold climates? Mexican Sativa Feminized is the new expression of our sativa dominant, ever-popular Mexican Sativa. It displays the vigorous growth, impressive height and elegant, elongated buds of the original. These traits derive from genetics originating in the Southern Mexican region of Oaxaca. How did we adapt this exotic cannabis variety to northern climates? By blending it with the notoriously robust African sativa Durban. A dash of a hash plant cultivar from Pakistan reduced the flowering time. It also further reinforced the resistance to cold. Next, the most outstanding offspring from this line were back-crossed with the original Oaxacan. This fully expressed its singular traits, which are much sought after by sativa lovers. Finally, for this new variation on a Sensi Seeds favourite, we created and stabilized the feminized version of Mexican Sativa.

One of its most interesting characteristics is a slight variation in phenotypes. Two are classic sativa shapes, tall with long internodal gaps and long, slender buds. The third, less common phenotype is an indica-oriented expression. This has a more xmas-tree shape and somewhat chunkier buds. The plants will respond to training, tying down and super-cropping no matter which phenotype they are. These techniques can be used to further increase Mexican Sativa Feminized's already substantial yield. They are applicable whether the seeds are grown in a garden, a greenhouse or a growroom.

Mexican Sativa Feminized wins praise from many of our fans as a versatile strain. It will thrive indoors as well as out. As an added benefit, the buds are quite mould-resistant thanks to their loose structure. However, cultivators should be aware that these beautiful plants can easily quadruple in size during their flowering period, which can be ten weeks long. In the great outdoors, especially in warm or temperate areas, this can result in trees over two metres tall! Indoors, this can be reduced and controlled by keeping the vegetation period shorter than usual. Pinching out is also useful. This creates a bushier growth pattern. Mexican Sativa Feminized's lateral branches will respond well to this technique.

The flavours of Mexican Sativa Feminized are an exciting blend of sandalwood, floral and pine. During the vegetation and flowering periods, the odour is on the subtle side. Once the flowers are properly cured, however, the layers of scent come fully into their own. When consumed, the flavours have a similar profile and more complexity becomes apparent. Topnotes of liquorice and citrus come to the fore, and basenotes of earthy, woody spice. For those looking for a change from the usual Haze flavours of strong sativa cannabis strains, this exotic Oaxacan is sure to please!

Mexican Sativa Feminized gives the consumer a powerful, energetic high. This strain is a great choice for physical activities. Most users report strong feelings of euphoria, accompanied by (sometimes uncontrollable) giggling! Inexperienced consumers are advised to start slow. This cuts down on the chance of paranoia and increases enjoyment. It is especially recommended if the plants have had a lot of light and gained in strength. Yet there is an element of relaxation in the effect of Mexican Sativa Feminized too. This derives from the hash plant part of its heritage. It tempers the high with a pleasant, gentle body-stone. Mexican Sativa Feminized is a great variety for daytime use. The effects are satisfyingly long-lasting, making Mexican Sativa Feminized even better value for money.

Mexican Sativa Feminized is an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced cultivators. If you are looking for a strong, uplifting sativa with an exotic taste, look no further! These feminized cannabis seeds will grow well either indoors or outdoors. Gardeners in cold and cool climates especially enjoy the hardiness and resilience of this strain. And everyone will appreciate how affordable it is.

Fruity Juice - Temperate/continental climate, 50-60 days, XXL yield, 55% sativa, €108.00 ($126.45 US) for 10 regular seeds - which is probably about halfway between their cheapest and most expensive strains.

As definitive examples of the Sativa and Indica genotypes, prized cultivars from Thailand and Afghanistan represent opposite ends of the psychoactive cannabis spectrum. Attaining the perfect balance between pure Afghani Indica and pure Thai Sativa was a goal that took a very long time to achieve, even by the extra-patient standards of cannabis breeders. The unpredictable nature of the first experimental Thai-Afghani crossings listed in early seed catalogues made them difficult to work with. Identifying the ideal combination of parent-plants required generations of testing, selection and examination of thousands of seed offspring. It took until 1995 to isolate the two very special individuals which would consistently produce the fusion of Indica and Sativa qualities we had in mind.

The result is Sensi Seeds' gorgeous Fruity Juice strain — a Thai-Afghani f1 hybrid of impeccable breeding which strongly expresses both its Indica and Sativa heritage. The mere sight of these tall, elegant ladies in bloom, bending slightly under their payloads of long, candied buds confirms that the time and effort devoted to this strain was very well spent. Fruity Juice is a large-leafed, thick-stemmed, powerhouse of a plant that's bursting with fragrance, power and hybrid vigour. She can be a first-class producer under lights, even at the smaller sizes favoured by indoor growers. If grown in a sunny greenhouse or outdoors in locations below 42°N and allowed to reach her full height of 2-3m, Fruity Juice can produce truly staggering harvests of running, super-dense flower clusters brimming with flavour and potency.

Well grown Fruity Juice buds are slick with gummy resin and exude a unique yet strangely familiar sugared flavour that must be smoked to be believed. Aside from the obvious flavour-comparison, the best description of Fruity Juice's exquisite bouquet we've heard is "tropical charas".

And both a regular and feminized version of Durban. They call it a 90% sativa, but I always assumed there must have been a bit more indica in the history of the strain somewhere (perhaps long before the first seedbank was opened, IDK).
Durban Regular
Durban Feminized

So... Anyone have any experience with one or more of the above? Preferably recently, but any at all would help, I suppose.

I stealth planted a seed I got from somewhere in a game preserve in the midwest back in the early 80's. Checked on it in july and it was near 6ft tall and looked mostly sativa end, but you could see it wasn't a pure one. I pinched a few small leaves near the top and rolled it wet to try while walking back to my car. It was my first experience with a fruity strain and even wet...the fruitiness came thru. It surprised me. Then I recognized it as juicy fruit gum. I was excited, but next visit..the game wardens found and chopped it. I thought it was a highland thai heritage at the time.

I used to love Juicy Fruit (and original "rock-hard" Bazooka Joe in the box) gum. And then I got an upper plate :icon_roll . The only gum I can chew now is Freedent (which is okay, but...) because every single other kind I've tried since getting dentures glues itself to my upper plate. And I mean glues - 30 seconds or less spent trying a different chewing/bubblegum and I have to spend an hour, maybe, trying to clean the stuff off the dentures. I've pretty much stopped trying to find any gum (other than the aforementioned Freedent) that I can chew. I think it's the xylitol (cavity-fighting agent) content. Anyway, a strain that smells/tastes like Juicy Fruit would be pleasing (and rather frustrating, lol).

The Thai content also holds some appeal.

BtW, sorry your plant got ripped.

I'm having flashbacks to the image of popping one of those rock hard Bazooka Joe pieces of gum. You cannot actually chew it for a while. Then it slowly softens while you read the Bazooka Joe comic inside. That was some hard bubble gum!

I grew two of their feminized Pakistan Valley that I got as freebies from an order and they turned out to be awesome. Then I bought their regular Pakistan Valley and Ketama. Had germination issues with those. The one Ketama I ended up with was not impressive. The Pakistan Valley was still nice, but as nice as the ones I had before.
