Landrace Genetics 101

BTW, Countrybuddin, I would PM you, but it appears that I cannot. You are too new here I guess?

Yeah, they put that in place so that someone can't join and then immediately start pestering other members via PM asking for seeds and stuff.

Apparently, it's working ;) .

I guess they took care of the guy :thumb:

LOL, they did, didn't they? Oops.

Heheh, forum censorship is so swift and sure, isn't it? You find out about the line you crossed after it's too late. :bongrip:

I imagine the process usually goes something like: Give the member a warning, along with a suggestion that the member should go back and reread the forum's guidelines (rules), and the staff member removes the prohibited content.

I occasionally come across a post from a member that is "on vacation." I assume the member in that situation had numerous guideline violations, so things escalated to a ban - but that most of that person's posts were allowed to stay because those infractions did not constitute the majority of that person's posts.

Once in a great while, a new member appears and almost every post is a guideline violation :icon_roll . I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that all of this one's posts got pooched. I also suspect that this is the primary reason that new members cannot create an account and immediately start sending PMs to other members.

Keep in mind that this isn't just an arbitrary rule meant to annoy people, lol - it's there for the protection of the members, the staff, the administrators and forum owner, and ultimately the forum itself. People who've "been around" for years will remember a large cannabis information resource was actually busted once upon a time. And OUR forum is not exactly an unknown presence on the Internet (far from it, in fact). It would probably make a real "pretty" target to... some entities. Consider that - and that there's a fine line between entrapment and a valid bust (and also consider the number of times when that line has been blurred to invisibility).

Heheh, forum censorship is so swift and sure, isn't it?

...and probably one of the reasons that 420Magazine.com is still running strong, after all these years. I've only been a member for about eight years, I think. But the forum was already well-established by the time I found it - and it is still going strong.

You find out about the line you crossed after it's too late. :bongrip:

Or you could, you know... read the Forum Guidelines that every member is supposed to read before posting. Right up near the top (the second guideline):

This site is not as bad as some about booting people off. I have had some posts edited and with some of them after some reflection by mods here, they were later restored by them with apologies. At IcyRag I was booted off with zero warning and no explanation. *shrug*

Maybe the Appellation guy will post to me on another site where I am Big Sur (or BigSur {no space}). The two sites where White and Black Widow and owned, or on the resurrected OG where trades are legal.

I'm guessing that it'd take a lot to get banned here with no prior notice/warning. The staff seems to really try to take their responsibilities seriously, and to give members the benefit of the doubt (IOW, assume it was an unintentional mistake, instead of a willful disregard of the rules). I've had a post "or two" ( ;) ) edited over the years. I've received communication from a staff member about it before. Sometimes it comes down to a judgment call, rather than an obvious and blatant violation. LOL - I've even had second thoughts about one of my own posts before, and contacted a staff member to ask them to take a look at it.

Some things aren't judgment calls. Flaming other members and/or the staff, disrespecting sponsors (which is not the same thing as giving a negative - but honest - review of one of their products), joining the forum and immediately creating a couple dozen posts trying to beg/receive/sell/trade seeds and/or pollen...

That last one isn't "just" to protect the forum, the staff, or even the membership in general. Who knows... The recently departed member, for example, is probably just someone looking to expand his strain catalog who hasn't learned the wisdom of caution yet. But it could have been a LEO doing a little fishing. It's kind of hard to tell. And to anyone that thinks "entrapment" is a solid defense, well... they should go ask Tommy Chong what he has to say on the subject:

On September 11, 2003, he was sentenced to nine months in prison, a fine of $20,000, and the forfeiture of about $120,000 in assets. He also had to give up his internet domain name of tommychong.com. What was the heinous crime that he committed? He sold a guy a BONG. A sale he made after refusing several times, and only giving in when he was repeatedly pestered. (Probably because he hoped the guy would then finally quit bothering him :icon_roll . ) I actually received a DVD about that and posted a short review. It's a good thing to watch. Err... The DVD, I mean, lol. But if you want to look at the review, you are welcome to do that, too. Some quotes that jumped out at me:

"...I'm in here because I made a stupid joke about the bongs being the only weapons of mass distruction that the Bush administration had found. The next thing I know, I'm looking at nine months." -Tommy Chong (in prison)

"What was it like in prison?" -?
"You'll find out" -Tommy Chong

"A water-pipe itself is not illegal, is it?" -Jay Leno
"No... But if it has my face on it, it is." -Tommy Chong

"Isn't that entrapment?" -Jay Leno
"Yeah... But this is America. There's no such thing as entrapment any more." -Tommy Chong

Just to be clear, I wasn't casting aspersions on forums or their staffs, etc.

I've been posting on various forums for over 20 years, even moderated myself, so I've seen it all. The abcnews, com political forum was the worst for just dumping posters. Poof! What did I do??? Regulars were always getting caught up in sweeps.

So I know that odd feeling when you just can't get back on to even say anything, and if you do, you especially irritate the mods who thought they had made it clear that you're gone. Yeah, violating Rule 2 in your first few days is a bad start.

:Namaste:

Oh, and hey, this particular forum is the best I've ever seen, thanks in great part to the way it's moderated. :bravo:

Agreed. Best forum ever. I believe we can thank both tha moderation and the members for that

As icy as it gets. It's a forum for growers with hormonal problems, who don't miss any chance to shoot testosterone from their asses. Great threads to talk about genetics, not so great threads about growing. As far as latter one is concerned they're ages behind what's happening here.

Icy comments... :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Yes, the last one is lame. I left there pretty fast after it was reincarnated. Guys there are typically begging me for seeds, slamming me for not selling seeds or labeling me as a Monsanto Nazi for using MG, or they think I am someone else. Others have noted and complained to me there that seed trades there have gone badly. *shrug* Its a weird site as well, with like one master page and a million threads. It is nothing like its former self. Sadly. It was good before the Mounties shut it down.

I agree, i deleted 3 other forums once i found 420Mag

I found THIS forum back in 2009 from some web-searching I was doing. I never planned to join any cannabis-related forum. And... how to put it? Really cheerful places sometimes leave me a bit nonplussed, lol. So you'd think I'd be a much better fit elsewhere.

I don't even remember, specifically, why I did join this forum. What I DO remember is being made to feel welcome from day one. And that has never changed. I got so paranoid at one point that I literally removed every cannabis-related item from my entire world, sanitized my computer, and dropped out of sight for... Three years?!? Anyway, a while. I returned and it was like, We missed you, brother."

And - for people just tuning in ;) - I have been known to step on the ol' crank once "or twice." (Again, for those who haven't read any of my posts, lol) I'm somewhat... outspoken. Someone that wanted to could probably have found a reason to ban me with full justification for doing so. But I'm still here (for which I am very grateful!).

As I mentioned, the cheerfulness of this place kind of... Wasn't something I was overly familiar with in my life, let me just put it that way. Not something I look for - because I've found it to be somewhat... made up? No, but... Not really in line with the reality that I was used to, so to speak. The other forums, well, getting kicked is nothing new. However... You know when you aren't watching where you're going, and you step into a pile of excrement, lol? How you don't feel entirely clean until you've cleaned your shoe off? THAT'S how I felt reading at other forums. I mean, there's "that's life, suck it up and deal with it" - and then there's "hey, that person looks like he hasn't had anyone push him into an open sewer lately. Time to remedy that." The latter is all too prevalent, IMHO, at other cannabis-related forums.

And that's really, really sad. Because I still do web-searches when I'm looking for information (reports of scientific research, et cetera). So I occasionally find myself pulling information from a thread at another forum (as a GUEST/GHOST only!). There are some intelligent and experienced people at other forums. Nonetheless, I couldn't stomach the thought of joining one of them.

Hey, landrace genetics, lol. Zamaldelica. Long flowering times. How long, in practice? How much does running a 11/13 or even 10/14 flowering schedule shorten that flowering period?

I wasn't actually aware how much bullshit they've been shilling and how wrong things are going over there before I started researching stuff online. Some of these stories is like batch of bad acid taken in a zoo cage.

Well, I have to counter the bad karma talking about other sites with a photo of a lid of good landrace colas from 1970's Morelos seeds. Retro Mexican weed. Smokes good. Mellow sativa high, you can smoke a half joint of this stuff. This was grown last year here by my bro here in the PNW.

Looking good BigSur. Morelos is Michoacan? I have some Guerrero x Michoacan flowering now. The high is super mellow, might be the same as yours.

Very recommended for anxiety and also mood lifter. I think what I have is the common 'Michoacan' of the 1970's. The pot I got back then, never came with a name back then but appreciated by me for sure, then and now.

Look is common brown and green, taste is pretty common too. The high is just so peaceful is the best word I can come up with. Hippie weed!

TS, you fit right in here. I'm with Sue, your presence is missed when you're not around.

I browse the icy forum some, but it's like Con put it, genetics. I stick to the Ace sub forum. Dubi has really gained my respect with the amount of interaction and help he gives people there and there are some good people that grow in the Ace forum. I don't know if they are anywhere else there.

I've grown a cut of zamadelica 4 times now and struggled to keep it alive until it could finish. I got it to 95 days this last grow. Still waiting on it to cure, but the testers have been good so far. It's way different than I expected though. Floaty and very laid back. Not anything like the electric, energizing high I was expecting from the Thai pheno. I'm starting to question if it truly was a Thai pheno. The taste is the sweet carrot that the zamal leaning pheno is supposed to have, and the three seeds I grew of a cross with it and Panama all taste similar. It's got the strechy, wimpy branches, with buds made of foxtails.

Did you see much in the way of late-flower male flowers? I grew a strain from Thailand in the late '80s / early '90s, and that seemed to be somewhat common. IDK exactly where it came from. It came to me by way of a serviceman who'd spent some leave time in the area. (There were no sticks involved, lol.) And no strain name, it was just what they were growing there.

Did you flower the Zamaldelica under 12/12 light schedule? Or did it foxtail even under more than 12 hours/day of darkness?

BtW, thank you for the kind words.
