Landrace Genetics 101

Did you see much in the way of late-flower male flowers? I grew a strain from Thailand in the late '80s / early '90s, and that seemed to be somewhat common. IDK exactly where it came from. It came to me by way of a serviceman who'd spent some leave time in the area. (There were no sticks involved, lol.) And no strain name, it was just what they were growing there.

Did you flower the Zamaldelica under 12/12 light schedule? Or did it foxtail even under more than 12 hours/day of darkness?

BtW, thank you for the kind words.
That cut didn't hermie any of the 4 times I grew her. The other seed I grew did hermie. Zamadelica should have very low rates of hermaphroditism however. Dubi has been working the strain now for quite a few years and that's one of his focuses, since he mainly works with landrace sativas, which hermie regularly. The one that did throw a nanner, and it was just one or two, was fairly heavily seeded, got pm and was being attacked by the borg, so there was a bit of stress involved.

And I've always flowered under 11/13 since I switched to photos. First three plants were autos, while I learned how to keep them alive. I decided early on, I loved sativas and focused my grow with that in mind. It hasn't seemed to help speed things up though. 8-9 week hybrid strains still go 9-10 weeks for me. And I count from when they throw pistols, not when they get flipped like a lot of people here seem to do, so add another week plus onto that if you count from flip.

I always count from "flip." I figure it's all the same if they immediately start stretching and flowering or if they "think about it" for a couple of weeks, the clock is still ticking its way towards harvest.

I do make sure that the plants are sexually mature before doing that. With some strains, that ends up meaning grow the plant for a while, take clones, and dispose of the mother so I'm not trying to flower something that is already a giant. Never got into that "12/12 from seed" thing, because it means less "daylight hours" at a time when they can't begin flowering anyway. But I've heard of people going that route - and still ending up with 6'+ tall plants, lol.

A FEW late-season male flowers, that's nothing new to me. Annoying, but just something to get used to with some strains. It's the ones that happen earlier that really bug me. Especially now that I don't see all that well.

Looking good BigSur. Morelos is Michoacan? I have some Guerrero x Michoacan flowering now. The high is super mellow, might be the same as yours.

Very recommended for anxiety and also mood lifter. I think what I have is the common 'Michoacan' of the 1970's. The pot I got back then, never came with a name back then but appreciated by me for sure, then and now.

Look is common brown and green, taste is pretty common too. The high is just so peaceful is the best word I can come up with. Hippie weed!

Morelos is not Michoacan. Morelos is a state in Mexico, like Michoacan and Guerrero are. Cuernavaca is the capital of Morelos. Morelos is a really small state located northeast of Guerrero, and just south of Mexico City. This weed is not as strong as some wild psycho Guerrero that I have had, but it is better than most Oaxacan. It may be very similar to the strain that you are growing, as Morelos is in proximity to Guerrero. It has a groovy high to it, as noted by me back in the 1970s, and the way it smokes now. The tops are light green and fluffy, and it blooms early for a Mexican.

I've grown a few testers of a cross of zamadelica x Panama under 11/13 from seed. They grew stretchy, spindly plants that harvested about a quarter to a half a zip each, but I wasn't expecting that much anyways. I just wanted to see how they grew and test the smoke.

Definitely not something I'd regularly do now that I've seen the results. I think the Ace strains have had a decent amount of the crazy sativa stretch bred out of them. Most I've grown tend to start flowering in a week to week and a half from flip if they are sexually ready. Something like a pure Haze I think would be best to grow that way. I want to try one, but have been holding off for a larger flower room.

A couple male flowers aren't that big of deal for me either, but it can be frustrating while making seeds, as you want to make sure you know what the lineage is. I've had a couple of mystery seeds that I'm not certain what plant pollinated them. Once I get more space I'll probably pop some of them to see how they are. My wife discovered that the pure power plant I was growing is great for productivity. This was after I harvested my last clone of it and let it go. I have a couple of mystery seeds from it that I need to try out soon. See if they work as well for her.

I just got some of those cool beans, 3 fem Zamaldelica.

Gonna wait to run them until I get a drier season been very high humid for me.
I am a big fan of Ace and all the work they do. Luis was very nice to deal with when I first bought seeds from him and I never forgot it.
Zamadelica, likes warm temps and fairly high humidity in veg. My grow room was in the low 80s with rh hitting 70 and they were loving it. Just need to bring the humidity down and keep the fans blowing hard, once the flowers start packing on to avoid any pm. The last one I just harvested was with temps 76-82 with rh 55-65 without any issues. I keep a lot of air moving in my flower room though.

That is great info. Perfect. I can control humidity in winter but not as well in summer. :thanks:

Nitrogen was on the high side so i diluted wit ph'd water to bring it down some.

Hey, landrace genetics, lol. Zamaldelica. Long flowering times. How long, in practice? How much does running a 11/13 or even 10/14 flowering schedule shorten that flowering period?

DrZiggy is the person to ask that. He gave me some info on Zam and Golden Tiger (hope no rules violation there?) and if I remember correctly...he said 11/13 for Zam cuts several weeks off normal. I just popped several of them.

Those photos of Thorin, Bilbo, Elrond, and Boramir are hard for me to look at. My eyes do not focus on red very well. What light spectrum/type are you using?

Bringing my posts of my land race RSC/BlueHemp Bekaa Valley Lebanese grows over here to stay on topic. Here are my Lebby cousins in June. A BlueHemp/Swiss sativa pheno on the left, and an RSC/Brit indica pheno on the right.

And leaves from the same pair of Lebby cousins from yesterday. indica pheno on the left, sativa pheno on the right.

Pollen kit for a skimpy RSC Lebby male sativa pheno (the only male that I got in the lot). I kept the male in a 2 gallon pot and cut it back hard several times. No need for having large males. Pollen kit: plain piece of paper, folded for a crease. Bamboo stick with some cat fur taped to it from my cat's brush. Tap male stems and collect pollen and open flowers in V of paper held open like a taco. Dip brush in pollen and gently tease lower female branch flowers with pollen.

And a Blue/Swiss Bekaa Lebanese sativa pheno blooming top from last week. This gal was a real early bloomer, started in early July. I pollinated a lower branch of her florets 2 days in a row. I will do another round tomorrow.
