Landrace Genetics 101

I'd sure like to meet those growers!

Snowhigh has legit Michoacan and Guerrero. I am growing it. it is a cross of the two. I had some very good Mexican in '75 and then again in '85. No seeds in the later batch so could not preserve it. Never knew it was Michoacan or special, just knew I liked it a lot. So I took some leaves off the plants to test and it was spot on for the old stuff in high.

The Michoacan pheno is a bit more stony and the Guerrero is clearer. Not sure of putting links here but he has a auction going online. There was more than one Michoacan and Guerrero back in the old days, so your mileage may vary.

Jarilla from CBG is legit for being a old line from Mexico. Super nice high. Eskobar has a modern Oaxacan and Jalisco. Both are nice with the Oaxacan being more energetic and bright.

I only grew Jarilla, but I can definitely recommend it. Downside is susceptibility to mold (indoor you can drop down PH and you're home), upside very reasonable flowering time and quite dense colas. I had both phenos, less potent hempy one and more potent lemon one. The latter smokes like a real old school, clear-headed and stimulating high with mild euphoria, but no zippiness. Perfect daytime smoke, I'm really into it.

Here are some pics of lemon pheno that went full season:

Forgot to add Bodhi's Acapulco Gold. I never had the original old Acapulco Gold before but I think this is a good representative of it or similar. Another is Swami's Guerrero x Panama Red. Never had the old Panama Red either but did have '78 Colombian Red and this is very much the same. Stony, strong, some trippyness, just one pheno.

Snowhigh has a Acapulco Gold of his own he is releasing as a cross, I have beans of that- Acapulco Gold x Michoacan. Also, Khymer Gold, Colombian Gold 72, Vietnamese Dalat.

Just got my package from RSC today. Got most all of their Indian strains and 3 middle east strains. Was reading in this thread of the guy who loved the Lebanese hash, so had to get that one too. I had a couple different kinds of the blonde Lebanese back in the 80's but never got real tripped out.

I gotta take a break from all the seed buying.:biglaugh:

yesum,

Welcome to :420:

I've been eying Snow's stuff, but I never pulled a trigger. He's as solid as Ace or CBG they say. A lot of landrace crosses indeed in his catalogue, but also a lot of OGs, hazesand this Blue Berry Blast which is supposed to be superior to Blue Dream. I think I'm going shopping :)

I have Mr. Nice Shit waiting to go after the Lebs finish. Hoping for a really stanky female. .
The Shit is supposed to be the smelliest skunk 9n the market and very stable. It's classic Dutch genetics developed from original Californian imports. I remember a lot of this indica skunks in the 90s, some stuff was really good although I was always partial to Cali Orange Bud aka. Orange Bud dubbed Cali-O as well. This was more of a classic sativa dominant skunk... this strain is dead by now probably.

I have 2 plants from swamp boy seeds started called The First 48. Its The White from Krome hit with the old Florida Orange Skunk from Cornbread Ricky. Hoping for something close to an orange skunk with the whites trichome production. Probably too much to ask. .

Well I have just the Michoacan to go by but I was kind of amazed in the high being spot on for that Mexican I had long ago. Most likely grown high in the mountains. It seems to have lost nothing being under my white LEDS. Usually there is a drop off in effect when you take a outdoor high elevation and close to equator strain and run it indoors.

Snowhigh did not respond to my messages on the auction site until I bought the beans and then he talked plenty via email. In fact I overdid my privilege a bit. I am sure he is super busy with the many strains he runs and just does not want to get into taking time for every question that someone has.

I ran Chimera's Highland Mexican x Blueberry and got some good smoke though not what I was looking for. The beans were suspect in that Chimera said he could not believe the seed bank still had his stock from years back. I decided to make sure and got some f2's from his website that someone made recently. I think what I had was his seeds but they just seemed a generic type hybrid of some quality. No trippy feelings.

Does your LED setup have some sort of UV component? Or do you use a supplemental UV light source? That seems to help, especially with high-altitude strains. IDK how necessary it is, but....

^^ Yeah, at the last week or so I drop a Reptisun 10.0 lizard cfl in the middle of the canopy of plants. I use the side light from it and raise and lower it every few hours. Also spin the plants around 180 after a day or two to get full coverage. It has a side light vertical area of around 4 inches I guess and has good power out to 12 inches from the bulb, I measured it. Keep it 2 inches away from plants at least.

I also use a 'Finisher' 10,000 K fluorescent lamp the last few weeks instead of the LED. Not sure if all this extra stuff works as I have not done a side by side with any strain, but I do it as the Kelvin scale of light at say 8000 feet elevation, is quite high or bluer than at sea level. Higher than 6400 K, so I am mimicking things as best I can.

I turn the uvb light on after I close the tent and the other finisher light I stay above the light so it is not shining down on me. It has some uva to it or so says the manufacturer.

You are the guy that inspired me to register and post here, hehe. Felt bad about you pining for the old Michoacan, I can relate. hehe Big Sur with his stories too and conradino23. Been lurking on this thread for a long time. Oops I guess it was the Oaxacan you wanted, just looked again.

I have a Mextiza going which is '79 Oaxacan with Jamaican and Nepalese. Strange how those old Mexican strains which always had loads of seeds end up so hard to find now eh?
