Landrace Genetics 101

Commercially there are 3 solid Mexican lines available, some recent limited offerings that I know of and lotsa crosses, none is Michoacan or Oaxacan Highland though. For these you're gonna have to hit growers who've been keeping them for ages or take the trip yourselves. Genuine Colombians are being flushed out though and you can find a lot of lines without any problems now.

I'd sure like to meet those growers!

There are at least two who came forward in this thread... it's just a matter of going back 20 or 25 pages and tracking them down :)

Ah yeah there are Oaxaca IBL seeds, but the buds look to me like heavily Skunk influenced and I doubt it's pure genetics. Might be a matter of sifting through phenos though.

I just remember a couple of good mexican strains from the 70's that i loved. It was energetic where you wanted to go out and do shit but was pretty chill too. No anxiety or thumping heart beat to it. Never had a name to it. Just mexican.

Yes, but they are not in my (very, very small) circle of personal friends. And even if it weren't a forum rule violation, I'd be extremely hesitant to attempt to beg/buy seeds from them. Paranoia and all that.

Never before have I soared to such heights and then crashed so hard from reading a single sentence.

You had me excited for all of a quarter second, though.

Pretty much every mature sativa that I've ever consumed was like that for me. Some were like "WooHOO!!!" and some were like "GROWL!!!" - but none of them were ever like "Yikes!" I don't know if I'm lucky or if it has something to do with Ye Olde Mental Issues. I'm at the point (if not past it, lol) where I think I really need to start growing an indica for the consequences of living life, but a good sativa will always have my heart (and head!).

Maybe its these new sativa hybrids but the old sativas from 30-40 years ago were pure bliss. I dont remember any negatives other than red eyes and the munchies. Lol

I can't point to a true Mexican, and even then, it would depend a lot on geography - where in Mexico? :cheesygrinsmiley:

But I'm very sensitive to the character of a buzz and I smoked a LOT of Mexican, so I can tell you what has a good-ole Mexican high ...

White Panther - it's one of those boring old unknown strains but I grew it and it's that same solid Mexican weed buzz from days past, and it has a much better punch to it.

Dr Grinspoon - it actually has HOG in it from the Oregon Purple Thai. With the Thai and Panama Red it's a great giggly munchy buzz - like the best of the old Mexican.

Ace has also worked some Guatemalan lines which are similar to a southern Mex.
