Lady Antheia's First Grow - MMJ In Coco - Candida, Blue Dream CBD & Northern Lights

Re: Lady Antheia's First Grow - MMJ In Coco - Candida, Blue Dream CBD & Northern Ligh

Day 39F

Girls are taking up almost the entire tent and seem to love that they have room to spread out. I've only moved a couple of fan leaves or branches to maximize light. Otherwise, they seem to be doing that on their own with the given space.

Blue Dream CBD is stacking buds quite nicely! Hoping this main cola keeps growing and puts on weight in the next few weeks before harvest

And Candy continues to put on some frost and smell very sweet  She still has some time to go, but I can't wait to make an oil infusion with her!

Your girls are coming alone beautifully LA! Starting to really put on some weight!

She has at least two more weeks, I think. Some of the branches are sagging a little from the weight already. Nothing to worry about yet since it seems to be letting lots of light penetrate, but I'll keep my eye on it to see if they need support. I have some of the soft flexible wire and the green velcro support. Might be able to make something work with those, but I thought about ordering a few of the plant support yoyos just in case.

Those plant yo-yos are awesome. I highly recommend them.

And for anyone following along that may be curious about the feeding schedule...

per gallon
4 ml micro
8 ml bloom
2.5 ml koolbloom liquid

Yes...shorts only for me....flashing my 50+ old man body.

I'm with ya... and my version of the '50+ old man body' seems to be heading downhill quicker every damn day!

Sooooo... seems some perlite words might be in order. I like to try to deliver words as needed.

First, don't focus on the Vigoro sludge. It's much less significant than the MiracleGrow version of perlite.... the MG version makes lots of sludge requiring a pre-use rince. The Vigoro stuff I just scoop from the bag directly into the containers and do a touch of extra flushing when I put a new girl in the pot. I see very little sludge in the bottom of the pot after a grow.

As with all things in this world, there are pluses and minuses.
Pluses include ease of use, weight, easy cleanup, and an environment no so friendly to bugs. Minuses include lack of plant support, and overall messiness (oh the spills!).
Avoid breathing any dust of course... breathing in rock would seem a bad idea. I don't get dust because I scoop from the bag with a cup rather than pouring the bag out directly.
You can totally re-use the medium. Just flush it good. I use bleach and just let the perlite sit in a bleach solution for an hour or so and then flush the bejusus out of it.

I haven't found it to be too bad. My coco spills are just as bad, if not worse :laughtwo:, but the coco is a little easier to wipe up I guess. The pluses for me are that the containers are lighter and easier to work with, and the reservoir will save watering time and the physical energy needed to do that on a frequent basis.

Great info. Thank you!

I agree. Those pipe cleaners they sell at the craft stores are excellent. I've been using the same batch for hanging my washed harvest for two years. Soft tie works well too.

Every time I see your drip-dry method, I get excited that I have a pack of pipe cleaners. Didn't know what to do with them before, since my kids are too old for those craft projects anymore, but now I have the perfect use!

Tead, are you talking about the typical black or grey electrical wire?

Re: Lady Antheia's First Grow - MMJ In Coco - Candida, Blue Dream CBD & Northern Ligh

I purchase my perlite from Home Depot. They deliver to my door and I roll that huge bale up the stairs to my apartment. I kept meaning to ask you how you reclaim the perlite Tead, so thank you so much for sharing that this morning.

I also fill with a cup, and I go so far as to place the container I'm filling into the bag as I fill, keeping the dust down with gentle movements. For some reason when Dale died I tossed all the leftover masks we used for dialysis. They'd have come in real handy now. Instead of purchasing more I just work carefully and walk away momentarily when dust rises out of the bag. I keep forgetting to try wetting it down with a light spray of water.

I used MG once, for a SWICK I believe, and wasn't much impressed with quality. The package I buy doesn't have nearly as much tiny particulate matter to muck things up.

Every time I casually pluck one from the tent and trot to the watering hole down the hallway, admiring the beauty as I walk because it weighs next to nothing, I thank my lucky stars that I wandered into Tead's yard one morning and discovered the world of hempy. Ease of handling is not a benefit I take lightly, hauling around all these big pots of soil these past two years. You notice my hempy contingent keeps growing? :laughtwo:

Exactly! Good quality soil is really something to admire and I aim to have that in my outdoor garden, but I can't lug it around without a great deal of effort. Although, it seems like we have a large contingent of buff 50+ men that might be willing to flex their muscles for us. :battingeyelashes:

That's just beautiful. I need to learn to germinate mine right in the perlite.

Thank you, Sue! :hugs:

I wasn't sure about germinating straight from seed in perlite, so I gave myself an insurance policy by starting a more traditional way. The seed soaked in a small cup of water for 24 hrs. Once it was nicely cracked open, I put it in a wet paper towel inside of an open ziploc bag for a day or two. Popped the nice taproot in the wet perlite and gently covered the seed head with the tiniest bit. Watering happened whenever I would go down for laundry or think of it, probably 3 times day. It didn't take much water at all. I was basically just trying to make sure the seed casing got enough water a few times a day to stay pliable.

Is that pure perlite?

Re: Lady Antheia's First Grow - MMJ In Coco - Candida, Blue Dream CBD & Northern Ligh

It is. My humidity is high, so I didn't feel the need to add vermiculite.

Edited to add: The fabric pot and the small tan pots are filled with coco and topped with gnat nix. It's a small version of grow stones and darker than the perlite. HTH!
