re: KingJohnC's Lush Lighting LED Dominator 2x Soil Indoor Grow Journal & Review

Although I believe the street light thing is bogus, I have read in several journals that the growers believed that even a power strip led lite in their grow room stressed their plants into hermieism!

I'm not sure about that. Why then don't all photosensitive plants behave this way, then? I mean, maybe they do and I am not aware of it because I was not a seed producer. I had no need to know about plants developing both flower parts.

I think indoor growing is extremely stressful for the plants regardless the conditions we provide, even if ideal. Full spectrum, complete nutrition, water...those are still under stress. I think the combination of conditions is what more than likely can cause this, but I shouldn't speak too soon as I have no idea if that will happen to my plants as they try to revert back to veg.

Of course this is not based on knowledge, but supposition on my part.

re: KingJohnC's Lush Lighting LED Dominator 2x Soil Indoor Grow Journal & Review

Street light thing is bogus? If you mean you can grow and flower a plant outdoors near a street light, and it won't hermie that's correct if that's the plants home. But if you move a plant there as it's started flowering that has been getting uninterrupted dark, then I know for sure that this will create a hermie. I've done this on afew occasions.

re: KingJohnC's Lush Lighting LED Dominator 2x Soil Indoor Grow Journal & Review

Just a curiosity question, why add the Kool Bloom in first week of flower, in their feeding schedule not called till 2nd week and you using ALOT more Bloom then they call for, do you think the extra P and K from these products early help boost early flower production?

I am really interested in seeing how well these flower!

When I switch to flower I also transition the nutrients I use to flowering nutrients, I feel it is important to supply the plants with all the phosphorous and potassium needed to develop pistils in early flower. I have started the Liquid KoolBloom 1 week earlier then I started feeding the mother plants under High Pressure Sodium that I harvested.

Good question, good answer, so basically once you go to flower its never to early to add P & K. Is that correct?

Flower Day 04

I measured the height of the plants today. All heights were measured from the top if the soil surface to the top of the plant.

3x AK48 #3 all at 37" tall
1x Hindu Kush #3 at 32" tall
1x Hindu Kush #2 at 13" tall
1x AK47x Alaskan Thunder at 17" tall

JKC do you keep a permanent log. If you do, do you have a particular format that you like that you might share? I like how your organized. I like organization a lot although most of my friends would say the opposite.

Doesn't make sense, though glad my de-humidifier has a green light. It just goes out when full.

This makes sense and is the first time I have heard a reasonable explanation of this. Thank You.

Great Updates KJC, I love how healthy your plants look. I noticed a few leaves were cut off at the end. Do you prefer cutting off temporary damaged leaves vs just plucking the whole leaf. The reason I ask, is I want to develop a technique that I can use that builds on the little incremental secrets long time grower have. Hopefully it will shorten the learning curve for me.

I was very impressed with how using Liquid KoolBloom and KoolBloom Dry has improved my buds density and improved the buds more then simply increasing the amount of General Hydroponics Flora Bloom. I have started the Liquid KoolBloom 1 Week ahead of the General Hydroponics schedule to see if it will help improve pistil development more then simply increasing the amount of phosphorous and potassium in the Flora Bloom I add to the nutrients. I feel I see superior pistil development when the nutrients are transitioned to flowering nutrients when flowering 12/12 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness is initiated.

I use a freeware program named HERB.IQ to organize my grow room and plant data. HERB.IQ makes it simple to get a progress update on which plant has been in vegetative growth or flowering for a period of time in 00.0 days format.

You should also cover the green light on your equipment as well.

If I do have some damaged leaves on a plant depending on the surface area and the amount that would have to be removed I will leave a few damaged leaves on the plants so that I may see if a condition that I have not investigated the cause of and determined a course of action already might worsen or stay steady until I remove the leaves the next watering. Hindu Kush #3 does have some wind burn on the edges of the leaves from the proximity to the fan I use for circulation, the fan is on the lowest setting. I removed several wind burned fan leaves that will not be missed with the amount of vegetation left on these plants. I remove any fan leaves that are shading bud sites. I remove the damaged portions of damaged leaves if the leaves are not shading a bud site. You can see examples of how I defoliate in my KingJohnC 400 Watt LA Confidential Seed Cabinet Soil Indoor Grow Journal and my KingJohnC's and Labexperiment's Brainstorm Haze Grow Journal.

I would also recommend Bassman59's guide to defoliation.

@Bassman59

Increasing yield with defoliation indoors - What's it mean? How to do it?

Fantastic, exactly what I was looking for. I will definitely checkout HERB.IQ.

Thanks

I will have to ask him :) He is sending me samples of some of his products too I will mention them when I getem... Wish I had cash for LED myself would love to test one out!

"I wish I had cash for LED"
Ya I wish I had cash for food..... Meds......New clothes >< let alone grow equipment

re: KingJohnC's Lush Lighting LED Dominator 2x Soil Indoor Grow Journal & Review

Wait........What? Cover your green led pilot light on your equipment? You snuck that little line in between your paragraphs there KJC. So you are confirming what I have read by various growers that even an equipment led in the darkened grow room can stress or effect the plant?

re: KingJohnC's Lush Lighting LED Dominator 2x Soil Indoor Grow Journal & Review

I would not take the chance of having your plants hermaphrodite because of equipment lights in the grow area.

re: KingJohnC's Lush Lighting LED Dominator 2x Soil Indoor Grow Journal & Review

Hey King, Ive got a quick question for you if you don't mind.. Is it ok to reuse soil? its all organic.. Thanks king.

Many people reuse their grow medium, If the soil is re amended with new sources of nutrients then the soil will be reusable again. If you use synthetic nutrients make sure your grow medium is well flushed to remove any fertilizer salt buildup.

I covered up the Green Light but at this stage I have little to fear from Hermies. Thanks KJC.

re: KingJohnC's Lush Lighting LED Dominator 2x Soil Indoor Grow Journal & Review

hey KJC do you think the diodes cause the stem to get woody quicker than traditional HIDs?

I have not noticed any difference in the rate that the branches are getting woody at.

I usually start bending my t5/HID grown ladies at week 3-4 of veg , well tried to on my led vegged ladies ,might as well bend a 2x4 might be easier.
:peace:

re: KingJohnC's Lush Lighting LED Dominator 2x Soil Indoor Grow Journal & Review

I hear ya LF! I'm just a node or two away from my first topping and with the extremely tight node spacing I'm concerned about getting the cut right. Maybe there should be a new technique for LEDs called FIMA, F--k I Missed Again! ;) ;)

re: KingJohnC's Lush Lighting LED Dominator 2x Soil Indoor Grow Journal & Review

Names are nothing more then marketing gimmicks. I say if something has a name you don't like either don't grow it, smoke it or simply change it's name ;)

I'm with you JJ, PC has gone to far in my opinion, Everyone is worried about what someone else thinks! I say Rock the Boat once in awhile and see what falls out....
