KingJohnC's Lush Lighting LED Dominator 2x Soil Indoor Grow Journal & Review

Excellent Update King! Great pictures! :bravo:
I would love to compare a Lush Led to my ZNet, but it is too cost prohibitive right now. It looks like it does a fantastic job!

From their design, I would guess that these panels would produce some nice big plants. They have lots of blue/white spectra, which should promote overall growth. Also blue diodes, are typically more efficient to drive, than red diodes, so they will convert more of their energy into usable photons, increasing photosynthesis. If I were custom configuring a panel to grow the biggest plants, as my priority, it might look much like what LUSH is offering.
It might look a bit different, if I were custom configuring a panel, to grow plants with the best resin profile. :yummy:

Will they be able to deliver as much, and as potent a resin, as other upper-end LED panels, without their higher ratio of 630nm and 660nm? I have no idea, so I'll just have to wait for KJCs findings. Some really nice plants already, so it will fun to watch it unfold.
Thank you KJC for all of this! :peace::cheertwo:

Vegetative Day 42

Today all the tall plants and 2 re vegetative plants were defoliated in preparation for flowering. I have selected to flower 1x AK47x Alaskan Thunder and 1x Hindu Kush #2 from the re vegetative plants.

Flower Day 01

All plants were watered with a nutrient solution consisting of 5 millilitres per gallon of Flora Gro, 5 millilitres per gallon of Flora Micro, 10 millilitres per gallon of Flora Bloom and 5 millilitres per gallon of calcium and magnesium.

I like that you are not training the plants so we can see the LED performance on just a grow using fertilizers. It really looks great so far.

Are you also watching your utility bills? I wonder how much less LEDs use than CFL or any other source of light.

Yes I decided not to use Low Stress Training on these plants so that we may see how the Lush Lighting Dominator 2x LED panel performs for the average person who wishes to grow their plants. I am happy that the Lush Lighting Dominator 2x uses only 435 watts but uses less energy then my Seed Cabinet with the 400 watt Lumatek Digital ballast @ 10% super lumen boost setting for a total of 440 watts and also provides a larger footprint then the 400 watt High Pressure Sodium light and reflector. Since the seasons are changing and my energy usage is changing I have not tracked the difference in energy usage in my utilities.

Plants look great KJC. Would I be right in thinking the Hindu Kush is enjoying the light more? Man they look ready to go bang. You can see them wanting to go into flower. :)

I believe I should have defoliated 5 days ago, I removed some 10" fan leaves from the plants and I believe the plants have stretched more between the internodes as a result of having such large fan leaves. Some of the internodes on the plants have stretched to 3"-4" because of the large fan leaves shading the internodes where the branches should have produced larger foliage if the large fan leaves were removed earlier.

Thanks, John. I am going to have to read up more on defoliating. Especially how it pertains to growing under the sun. I'm not sure how that would work in hot sun. Would you think the inner bud development would be scalded in very hot sun if not protected by
a modest amount of fan leaves.

Also, I was wondering if defol helps keep the plants short. I would love to be able to keep all my plants no taller than 3 feet in full flower, but that may not be possible. I'll just have to see how it goes and learn as it moves.

I don't know what the problem is with the Money Maker strain and why it is attracting leaf miners. Weird.

If you are interested in defoliation I highly recommend Bassman59's guide to indoor defoliation, the guide to defoliation may improve the amount of light getting to the inner branches and improve your harvest.

@Bassman59

Increasing yield with defoliation indoors - What's it mean? How to do it?

The method you should use to control the height of your plants is called Topping.
