JZ's Shootout: Part Deux

Just a quick question: would you pH adjust your RODI *then* add Ca/Mg, or add the Ca/Mg *then* pH adjust?

I don't make any adjustments to the nutes until everything is mixed. No telling what the final adjustment needs to be until everything is in the mix, so I wait until everything is in the mix.

As a general rule, I haven't had to adjust mine at all. I just add everything to the RO water and it is within range every time. The only time I ever add pH up or down is if they've been feeding heavy and have lowered the PPM enough to affect pH. Even then it's rare I need to adjust, although I am only checking every 2~3 days.

Well,

RODI with 10ml/gallon of CAli-MAGic was hovering at pH 6.4-6.6, so I wasn't about to subject seedlings in coco/OC+ to water with that high of a pH. I've been trying to keep it around 5.6-5.9, or so...

Odd thing, my very first hydro grow (in one of those Aerogardens), I dicked around with pH trying to keep it proper and had nothing but issues and ended up frying the hell out of everything.

Probably set up a 1020 tray next week or so, with an Airpot/coco/OC+ and a single Brazil Amazonia femmed seed. You know, for giggles, and maybe to get some cuts.

Thanks for the advice, you two.

Tonight's readings:

6.25 gallons/pH 6.00/720ppm

I added .2ml of pH Down and called it good. Will test in a few hours. Girls looking very robust for early growth.

My roommate (another medical patient) is criticizing my seemingly random changing of parameters and pretty much announced that I wasn't ever going to grow anything because I fucked around too much. I told him that if I *kept* fucking around with half-dead and super stressed plants, I wasn't going to get anything either, and I'd waste valuable weeks doing so....

Anyhow. Pictures someday (roommate 'borrowed' a pair of my rechargeable camera batteries for his xbox controller) - I'm liking the simplicity of coir/OC+ and cal/mg water.

:geek: gotta love those pics

Things look good now...best of luck to ya my friend, I know you could use a good harvest...

Just you folks wait. Even my anal-retentive, you-can't-control-your-nutes-with-that-shit, OMG I know coir better than you roommate is impressed. Pics on Sunday, I promise.

On another note, getting a stress test ordered (and some kind of 'nuclear medicine' heart vessel thingy) - had a few chest pains and up into my neck on the left side, and since my older brother and father had heart issues in their early 40's (I'm 47), not taking chances. Also just got an MRI (about 2 hours ago) on my lumbar spine - I've had a bulging disk for awhile, but seems to have gotten worse almost overnight. Lots of spine numbness and the tingling/numbness in my legs is way worse.

So. Getting stuff taken care of.

Anyhoo - wait till you see the girls. They're short squat green gals!

I was an Emergency Medical Technician almost a decade ago... One of the many things I've done in the past... Sounds like you are talking about an isotope stress test. The isotope, works like a contrast dye so they can see which, if any coronary arteries remain narrowed after exercise (which means they are blocked) and what parts of the muscle aren't getting enough blood.

I'm glad to hear you're not taking any chances, because chest pain is no joke. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers brother! :goodluck: we're all pulling for a clean bill of health!

:Namaste:

The MRI was fun - I'm no claustrophobe, and naturally, being cocooned up in a warm blanket, fell asleep quite quickly. I guess sleep - the clunking humming rhythmic pulse of the magnetic beast took on almost musical qualities, and lulled me to another place....

some stuff to share, starting with the children:

Soaking the Amazonia beans right now, will plant them in the OC+ charged coir in 24 hours or thereabouts.

Jozo, I know it's a bit late since you started your grow. But get some damn HOME DEFENSE from wally world, lowes, home despot. Buy the gallon container, spray all entry ways to your grow area for 15 feet. and if possible, take your plants out for a few hours and spray every square inch of your grow area floor, baseboards, entry etc.

I live in an area that is known for really bad pest problems. It's almost like everyone fully expects thrips, mites, gnats. I sprayed my area two weeks before my 1st grow and every 3 -5 days after until I planted. Then I spray once a month minimum all entry ways to the room, and with tent closed a light spray outside the tent.

I had 2 gnats show up in my closet veg since August. Not a single other pest.
