Jon's Outdoor Winter Photoperiod Grow

Hey @CaptainLucky - I dug out some pictures of my Yoda’s operation in Oregon to show you. You’re gonna love this.

First, I’ll drop your jaw right off the bat with the picture that blows my mind the most. This is one of his dedicated and fully climate and light controlled drying rooms. OMFG.

Here’s some active greenhouse pictures.

This is cool - he uses these frogs to help control pests.

And here’s his 6th greenhouse under construction but already in use.

How’s that for a mouthwatering Tuesday photo group? Heh.

Humboldt Dream
Flower Day 5

The Sombrero Quad is taking shape sweetly now. And since I had to flip a bit earlier than preferred, the four shoots in the middle shouldn’t get as big vertically as many of my plants. You can see here how they’re not a ton above the canopy below. The way I usually do it they’d be several inches taller above the canopy by now. They’re so close I considered flattening them out and finishing the stretch with one flat canopy, but even after only five days of flip (and likely the MSA) the shoots are too hard and stiff to move. Could I supercrop them? Yes. Will I? No. Just let them grow up and we’ll see how much separation we get. I’m in love with this plant.

Wow that’s one big auto 👍 great work bro. CL🍀 :goodjob: :bravo::thumb:
Thanks CL! Yeah she’s pretty big. Not really as big as she looks though. These are long, thin, sativa type buds. Dense, but small. And there’s a ton of leaf masking their true size. I’m guessing I’ll be lucky to get a half pound from her. I don’t believe it’s a 10 ounce plant. Decent. Not in the 13.8 ounce Watermelon WeddingCake XXL league or the almost 12 ounce Banana Sherbet XXL league. But decent.

Trichomes

Inching along. The paint is drying. Lmao. We’re obviously closer to all white than we were a few days ago. I’m going to let this one go about 10% amber before chopping.

White Widow Auto
Day 28

I’ve decided to not train this plant. All I’ve done is top the main shoot above node 4. From here I’m going to do nothing but defol as necessary. I’ve never not trained a plant to that extent before. Let’s see what happens. Today is day 28. The last WW gave me 39 or 40 days of veg. Hoping this one does the same, so far so good. Changed her res yesterday too.

Mimosa
Flower Day 5

I’ve decided to try something a little different with this girl. What we have now is an eight-cola outer ring and a two cola center - exactly and only 10 colas. I’m stripping everything else away, religiously, as we go. The center is bare. In the branch photos I show you the extent to which all the colas are now cleared. They are bare up to the point I show. The idea here is to see if we end up with a nice, clean plant of exactly and only 10 huge colas. Basically just short of lollipopping the colas. No flarf, no small buds. I believe this will be the result. As hard as I see people work to eliminate crappy flarf it’s got to, right? Lol.

One thing I’ve learned from my Yoda in Oregon is that certain strains lend themselves to yield and bigger buds in terms of the parents. For example, he grows a lot of hybrids with Girl Scout Cookies as one of the parent strains. This is because GSC are first and foremost, very very stable. Secondly, the strain adds yield and size to anything it’s crossed with. @420 has a buddy with a similar commercial setup and I’m sure he gives the same consideration to the strains he chooses to grow. Commercial growers growing tons of plants from clones have to. An 18’ tall plant translates into $30-40K!!! One time my boy lost an entire greenhouse to some fungal infection. The plants were like 12’ tall at the time. Four rows, 100’ long each, all gone. When he told me how much money that cost him I was dumbfounded. So as you grow different strains you may notice some have a similar parent more often than not. Mimosa is another one that is used alot, as well as Zkittlez (how many Zkittlez hybrids do you see in every seedbank, lol). It’s very interesting to me when selecting strains. I now know, for example, that if I choose a strain with GSC as a parent, the taste at the end will likely include some extent of the gassiness of the GSC.
